Equality and Diversity Interactive online courses are available


Equality and Diversity We know how busy you all are, therefore we have provided some hour long equality and diversity e-learning courses that you could dip in and out of at your desk, whenever you can find some space in your day. On completion of these courses you will be issued with a certificate and your Staff Development training record will reflect this. Please note that the half day Respecting Diversity training course is still mandatory for those staff in the process of completing their probation at the University.

Diversity in the Workplace for all staff This online course is a refresher course on equality and diversity for all staff and can be taken anytime. It is especially recommended to staff who have not been on an equality & diversity course in the last three years or more. Recommended for staff with zero hours contracts, those that work less than 13 hours a week and have worked at the University for at least 8 weeks. This course covers: n Key features and provisions of the Equality

Act 2010

n Broader equality & diversity issues n Your responsibilities and rights as a member

of staff of the University.

n The issues surrounding bullying and harassment

n The benefits of recognising and eliminating

n The need to develop a culture that helps to

bullying & harassment in the workplace

n What can be done if someone is being bullied.

Unconscious Bias

Respecting Diversity

awareness raising session for decision makers, Interview Panel Chairs and managers

mandatory for all staff

This face to face half day session supports the Athena SWAN (gender equality) agenda and Awards as well as Equality & Diversity in general. The session will help you to: n Become more aware of own Unconscious Bias n Explore the brain’s processing short cuts n Be aware of how that processing impacts on our

behaviour and decision making

n Increase our awareness of strategies to manage

our brain’s short cuts.

This half day interactive course – or an equivalent bespoke one run by Staff Development through your School / department / service / team – is mandatory for all members of staff. New staff are not able to complete their probation until they have completed this course. This session arises out of the University’s commitment to equality and diversity and out of a desire to respond to recent changes in legislation. By the end of the session, participants will have: n Acquired a basic understanding of why diversity,

equality of opportunity and harassment and bullying are key issues for the university to address

n Understood our rights and responsibilities in light

of recent equality legislation

n Explored the implications for our procedures

and practices

n Discussed and gained an understanding of some

of the pitfalls in this area

n Had an opportunity to share examples of

good practice
