Dear Friends, We have much to be grateful for as we embark on Sereno 1% For Good Charitable Foundation’s 12th year. As I write this letter, I am excited to report that we have just eclipsed $6,000,000 in charitable giving.

It is humbling to think that our first contribution of $5,000 in 2012 has grown to over $6,000,000 and includes our support of over 500 locally rooted, community-minded charitable organizations who work tirelessly to improve, enhance, and provide hope to the lives of so many deserving people.

Our world is bolstered and uplifted by these organizations and the services and support they bring to the communities we serve. These organizations and their people are the true champions of society. They often work anonymously, for the good of others and undesiring of recognition.

As the world seemingly moves faster and faster around me and technology advances exponentially by the day, it is my connection to our Sereno 1% For Good Charitable Foundation and the people and organizations connected to it that grounds me and serves to remind me that people matter.

As a company, it is our investment in the capital of human relationships that best serves our purpose. Our goal as an organization has always been to be a successful, well-respected, profitable company, but the deeper commitment we have made since our founding is to achieve those things while always staying true to our values of service, community mindedness, and good citizenship.

Staying centered to these values is not always easy and we sometimes find ourselves pulled by the gravity of profits over people. During these times, it is our Sereno 1% For Good Charitable Foundation that acts as our anchor and moral compass. It is a constant reminder of the good we can do within our communities as a result of our success.

The opportunity we have to contribute and support in some small way to the greater good of society will always serve as our highest purpose. It is my hope that our Sereno 1% For Good Charitable Foundation will be our legacy as a company, and the impact we have had on our communities will resonate for generations to come.

Kids in hospitals are like children everywhere — they just want to be happy and play.

The Crayon Initiative is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of hospitalized children through art and creativity. Our mission is to bring happiness to children who are facing the stress of hospitalization by giving them the freedom that comes with creative play. Founded on the principle of promoting therapeutic arts and environmental sustainability, our organization recycles used crayons and repurposes them into new ones for children’s hospitals across the United States.

Founded in 2013, The Crayon Initiative is dedicated to collecting used, broken, and unwanted crayons, recycling them at our custom facility to create new, ergonomic crayons that are delivered at no cost to hospitalized children and their families. The visionary, entrepreneur Bryan Ware of Danville, CA, sought to solve the problem of single-use restaurant crayons after a dinner out with his family. The Crayon Initiative has grown exponentially since its founding.

We actively provide opportunities for creative expression to over 250 children’s hospitals nationwide, and our research-supported mission is to bring happiness to children who are facing the stress of hospitalization by giving them the freedom that comes with creative play. Our crayons are provided at no cost to pediatric patients, their families, and hospital partners.

The Crayon Initiative works directly with hospitals who are part of the Children’s Hospital Association (CHA). At the inception of our tenure, we selected to work closely with CHA hospitals because the children’s hospitals and health systems within the Children’s Hospital Association are driving initiatives to address the needs of children and advocating for policies that support pediatric patients and the workforce that cares for them.

The Crayon Initiative delivers new, sterile crayons to pediatric patients in CHA hospitals across the nation. Our crayons are large and have a three-sided shape designed by an occupational therapist to ensure that our crayons would have the biggest impact for both mental and physical wellness. Our 10-year production has delivered over 820,000 packs of crayons, bringing smiles to countless young faces in hospitals across the nation.

Our crayons are made at the hands of volunteers.

We engage volunteers of all ages through various ways of participation from crayon collection and sorting, team building events, melting, boxing, packaging and shipping. Our partnerships with local and national businesses for sorting and melting events have been an anchor of our success since inception. Partners like Christie’s Sereno play a significant role in our success.

Imagine struggling to put food on the table, let alone plan for the future. This is the reality for thousands of our hardworking families living in poverty each year.

For over 27 years, Sunday Friends has been a beacon of hope for those families, providing a vital lifeline.

We offer more than a handout — we empower families with the tools they need to build a brighter future.

Every month, families attend financial literacy workshops, gain access to computers and critical skills, receive weekly fresh food, and participate in programs that nurture their children’s development.

Beyond essential support, Sunday Friends fosters a thriving mentorship ecosystem. Our individuals and families aren’t just friends — they’re a network of lived experience. They share hard-won knowledge and guidance, passing the torch of hope from one family to the next. This supportive network is the foundation upon which we are building, one family at a time.

The past few years, marked by job losses, rising inflation and housing costs, have been hard for our community.

Then we faced the pandemic, which threatened our very foundation, yet what we didn’t expect was within our families it sparked a transformative path. Amidst this adversity, the entrepreneurial spirit of Sunday Friends families blossomed like unexpected wildflowers and inspired us to go beyond meeting immediate needs.

We see a deeper call to action: empowering families 10

to not only survive but thrive by building lasting legacies of generational wealth. This spark birthed Dream.Build.Mentor (DBM), a program designed to equip families with the tools needed to achieve this vision of sustainable prosperity.

Micro businesses, born out of necessity and a determination to keep families afloat, have sprung up across our community. Take Leticia, for example. Two years ago, a gift card from Sunday Friends could have eased immediate concerns. However, Leticia saw a brighter future.

She invested it in her small taco catering business, prioritizing long-term stability over short-term comfort. With grit and determination – hallmarks of the Sunday Friends families we serve – Leticia has been steadily building her dream. Leticia’s story, only one of many, is proof: with the right support, connections, and access to capital –

DBM is not just another program, it’s a bold entrepreneurship accelerator. We equip Sunday Friends families with the tools they need to thrive. Imagine child-parent teams working together, gaining training, resources, capital, and mentorship to build sustainable businesses.

This isn’t just about financial security for today — it’s about securing a brighter future for generations to come. We envision Sunday Friends families like Leticia’s becoming role models for their children and their communities, demonstrating the power of hard work and entrepreneurship.

Rarely do we get a chance to truly change lives.

DBM offers that chance. Entrepreneurship has empowered people for centuries — DBM empowers families. Sunday Friends envisions a future where families not only dream but achieve. Together, we can amplify voices like Leticia’s and champion solutions, and pave the way for economic opportunity for all.

Christie’s Sereno believes that to invest in change we must invest in children.

In 2023, Sereno 1% For Good Charitable Foundation created our Education Fund dedicated to enhancing the passion and purpose of the youth in our communities. This fund focuses on various aspects of education, including improving access to quality schooling, resources for teachers, camps, workshops, and scholarships for underprivileged students.

Through our Education Fund, we are able to support schools, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations that are working to address educational disparities, close opportunity gaps, and promote lifelong learning.

By investing in education, we aim to empower individuals, break the cycle of poverty, and contribute to the long-term social and economic development of communities.

Our Education Fund reflects our commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of individuals and our community as a whole by investing in the most powerful tool for social change: education.
