Member Memo Message from Mary: Have you ever wondered what the folks are thinking who review your grant application? What makes them say “no” and what makes them say “yes”? Thanks to our Professional Development Chair Cynthia Falardeau, you will get that inside scoop and more through a “Funders Forum” that will be part of our virtual Winter Membership Meeting coming up next week! Here is the draft agenda and you will see it is action-packed! If you haven’t registered yet, there is still time and you are welcome to invite staff and/or board members to participate with you in this no travel, no cost professional development opportunity that will also give them greater context for your local work and our statewide network. Meeting materials, log in and call in information will be provided to all registrants at the beginning of next week. “See” you then and Happy New Year! Best,
Mary Chance President Consortium of Florida Education Foundations firstname.lastname@example.org

Just let Tracy know and she will get them in the mail. We also have bookmarks that can be good bag stuffers at your special events. This information is used to generate CFEF's mid-year report to the Florida Department of Education and for this purpose, we only need to know about the state funds. Thank you to everyone for completing your budget amendments and applications for new projects. All projects have been awarded online and you are no longer able to make adjustments to your applications. Should any changed need to made, please let Jenifer know. We are currently waiting on our second disbursement from the FLDOE. Our first disbursement was recieved in early September, which led to the checks that you recieved for 70% of your first round allocation. We expect the second disbursement soon and you will recieve the remaining balance of your total allocation for 2012-2013. If you have any photos that highlight your programs, we would greatly appreciate them. Time to Meet with Your Legislators and Here's What You Need!
Whether or not you are on our Legislative Committee, now is the time for you and your “Voice” representative to meet with your local legislators and to help us identify relationships among your board members and key legislators. Here is what you need to know to help us advocate for the matching grant that is a key element in your foundation’s work! It is ideal to meet with them both on their home turf and in Tallahassee. Committee weeks are happening the weeks of Jan. 14 and 21, but you should be able to schedule a meeting when they are back in their home districts the week of Jan. 28. Committees typically don’t meet on Fridays so they can also be good days to catch them at home even if it is a committee week. Here are the 2013 Key Legislative Contacts but please meet with your representatives even if they aren’t on PreK-12 Appropriations or another key leader. Here is our 2013-14 Legislative Request which you can print and use along with your local information about how the matching grant supports student achievement in your school district. Finally, Jenifer is preparing “district impact” summaries of what the matching grant is funding by a legislator’s district. Here is a sample one. Please let Jenifer know if you have a meeting scheduled and would like one for a specific legislator’s home district. It is always great if you can connect your work and those of your colleagues in neighboring school districts to help a legislators see the total impact in his/her part of the state. This entire legislative tool kit is also housed in the Members Area of our website for your convenience. Please let us know if you have ANY questions and if/when you meet with legislators so we can attempt to track who has had conversations with our members about the importance of the matching grant.
