In blossom Dombeya rotundifolia (wild pear) is a small, multi-stemmed tree growing up to 5 m high. From July to September, the leafless grey branches are covered in clusters of sweetly scented white blossoms, which attract bees. After flowering, a sparse crop of fairly large, sandpapery leaves appears. The gnarled grey trunk of this little tree is heavily fissured, which adds great character in summer.
