Designed by local clinicians, it is intended to speed up the provision of the different types of treatment required by the hugely divergent range of A&E attendees and is 30% bigger than the old department. It will also provide greater privacy for patients since each treatment room has a door and privacy curtain. Treatment for adults and children is completely separate, creating a much more child-friendly environment for families. The funding was won by the former Conservative MP for Croydon Central, Gavin Barwell and announced in 2015.

Labour plans to build over Park Hill will be opposed by local Conservatives  Plans by the Labour Council for the ‘intensification’ of housing development in Croydon mean that residential neighbourhoods like Park Hill are under threat from greedy developers. For Park Hill, it means that a detached bungalow in a residential street could be replaced with a block of flats. It means that local insensitive developments which could be proposed in Park Hill and Whitgift will be much harder to oppose.

2 recent planning applications approved by the Labour Council demonstrate their intentions. Planning permission was granted for the demolition of the detatched house at 114 Addiscombe Road to be replaced by flats, whilst Ridgehanger on Park Hill Rise was also approved for demolition.
