WePhoto STREET Vol. 5 Street photography involves capturing ephemeral moments when subject matter, mood, composition, and light come together to create a meaningful or artistic photograph. The challenge of street photography—and its unique appeal—is finding a way to turn the mundane things we see every day into art. It encapsulates the unforgettable moments of life before they become history, small stories of our existence that would be lost in the flow of time if not captured and portrayed in an image and made immortal. Street life, like most other genres in photography, works around effective composition. It involves anticipation and since as the photographer you don’t usually have the choice of moving your subjects, you have to shift your position or wait for that decisive moment when the subject is right where and doing right what you expected them to do. Street photography may oftentimes be confused with the genre called Reportage. The fine difference lies in the intent and the basic principles about truly documenting the contents. Street life comes with a baggage of ethnic order as some street moments that the westerners define as exotic may be the everyday life for those who live in those places. The Street Photography has many nuances and may range from minimal style to a social report that documents the evils of a society tending to exclude and marginalize the weaker. But these are just a few facets of Street Life and those challenges many a time act as the major puller to the artists of this genre. The presented work is the finest collection of art and we hope that you will enjoy every bit of it.

DAŠA ŠČUKA Ljubljana, Slovenia

500px.com/dasascuka

I was born in 1979 in Slovenia. One morning at the end of October 2013, when I was bored and had nothing to do, I bought my first camera on the spur of a moment.

Photography instantly became my passion, as it gave me a creative outlet, pushed me to travel more and made me change the way I look at the world and myself. 10

ED PEETERS Chitimba, Malawi instagram.com/edpeetersphotography/ facebook.com/EdPeetersPhotography www.edpeetersphotography.com

I was born in a small village in the south of the Netherlands called Meijel. Nowadays I live my life in Chitimba, Malawi, where I own and run a lodge/campsite along with the love of my life Carmen. Being in Africa I picked up my old hobby of photography once again.

I am one of those people who feel like they can see things better and more clearly through the viewfinder of a camera. I enjoy taking pictures of People, Landscapes, Architecture, Nature, Wildlife and everything else that appears in front of my camera. Basically, I just love taking pictures. I hope you will enjoy my work. 22

GIOVANNI PAOLINI Milano, Italia

Street Photography allows us to capture reality and produce immediate, real time images that tell their own story. One of the main proponent of this genre was undoubtedly Henri Cartier-Bresson. He was the father of the now popular decisive moment theory, ie the instant before and after which photography no longer has any meaning.

To do a good street you have to work hard, be very patient to see a situation and wait for the optimal conditions to materialize, then make several shots to bring home some good results. We need to have a lot of time available because what we want to happen does not always happen and we need to be ready to catch it when it shows up. When that decisive moment occurs to immortalize an instant we feel really satisfied. These images that I have chosen from my work seem to have reached the goal. I hope you will enjoy them. 34

I was born in Hyderabad, India, and now live and work as a consultant in Jakarta, Indonesia.

My passion for photography began 10 years ago when I started traveling. In the initial few years, it was all about capturing landscapes, cityscapes, and historical objects, but now my passion is into photographing people, to be named as Street Photography, that I occasionally call Social Documentary and at other times -Natural Light Street Portraits. 46

PIERLUIGI CUNA Salerno, Italia

facebook.com/pierluigi.cuna1 facebook.com/magazzino

was born in 1968. I have had a passion for photography since the age of fourteen when I used to have an instant Polaroid. Since then, I have continued to explore this fantastic world. Going with the times I started clicking hand-held with my father's camera, an analog ZEISS, from which I switched to some other camera bodies and darkroom.

With the advent of technology, things have changed radically. I love living with people and watching communities. It is my utmost urge to continue photographing and that pushes me to go see new places that have potential for photography. I prefer Street Photography because I like to watch people in gestures and moods, and I always get to capture their emotions. Photography for me is a sketchbook on which I love to portray the mute scenes of life. 58

MARIO BUNCUGA Brescia, Italia

Photography, like any other art form is a work of passion. If you don’t have it you will end up clicking snapshots. It was sheer passion that drove me to found WePhoto, precisely as my own birthday present in the year 2014, I have been fortunate to bring together some equally enthusiastic fellow photographers who have shared the same passion and helped me administer WePhoto - the parent group as well as its multiple offshoots representing almost every single genre in photography.

Presently there is the parent group -WePhoto, and twelve related pages bringing forward the best works from across the globe; creating pinboards on Pinterest; and having published more than 75 Books on issuu.com along with their print versions. Street photography has marveled me the most right from my early days in photography. This form has taught me to capture the fleeting moments of life. I wonder how these moments would have been lost in the flow of time if not captured when they occured. Presented herewithin are some of those moments I have preserved and cherished the most. 70
