ACO MARINE is a part of the international ACO group located in Prague Czech Republic. The unique system solutions and products of ACO MARINE are designed for enhanced wastewater collection and treatment. The product range includes gullies and channels, stainless steel and galvanised steel push fit pipe system, grease separator systems and advanced membrane bioreactor wastewater treatment plants. All ACO MARINE products are manufactured in-house at strategically located manufacturing facilities across the EU. Only the highest quality materials are used throughout the manufacturing process.

The ACO Maripur with low-pressure micro-filtration units offers the following advantages: • Compact process due to the high concentration of activated sludge to in the reactor enabling limited space on ships and other marine structures to be put to more efficient use. • Removal rates are significantly better than those required by current legislation. This gives operators the confidence that they will meet all likely future legislation and may even be allowed to discharge wastewater in areas where this is currently prohibited (zero-emission areas).

• There is no need for an environmentally harmful and expensive secondary disinfection stage. Secondary chlorination indispensable in conventional systems - is not necessary for biological membrane systems, which form a barrier to the activated sludge, suspended solids, bacteria and even viruses. • The application of micro-filtration units instead of conventional settling solutions provides full resistance of the system to ship‘s movement. • Simple automated operation requires minimal operator intervention. • Able to treat all waste waters (black and grey water) in one reactor reducing the need for more costly, heavier and larger alternative solutions.

Technological description

Efficiency of purification

The ACO Maripur wastewater treatment plants were developed based on biological wastewater treatment technology in combination with submerged micro-filtration units and were optimised for use on ships and marine structures.

The biologically cleaned wastewater is discharged through micro-filtration units by the effluent pump (4). The low trans-membrane pressure effectively prevents solid filter cakes from building up on the membranes surface.

The micro-filtration units (2) are directly installed in the bioreactor (1) and are equipped with elements below. All other components are located outside the bioreactor, usually on one wall only.

The surplus sludge is discharged periodically from the bioreactor by the surplus sludge pump (5). To avoid foaming in the bioreactor, the ACO Maripur is equipped with an antifoam dosing system consisting of antifoam liquid barrel (6) and dosing pump (7).

The wastewater enters the bioreactor through the inlet pipe on top of the reactor tank. The aerobic degradation of water contaminants is provided by permanent aeration through the aeration elements located below the micro-filtration units. Due to the upward air flow within the membrane modules, the membrane surface is permanently swept and freed of adhering solids.

The ACO Maripur system provides ships and marine structures with the process of biological wastewater treatment in combination with submerged low-pressure microfiltration membranes. These act as physical barriers to the activated sludge as well as to bacteria and viruses. Accordingly the ACO Maripur technology purifies water without any final clarification or any additional desinfection - that exceeds the quality standards of IMO/MARPOL, HELCOM, German Federal Law Gazettes No. II, page 1378 and No. I, page 1221, USCG, US Federal Law Gazette No. 40, section 133, Australian ADNOC and Australian Federal Environmental agency as well as the Alaska requirement to 33 CFR 159. Fully compliant to the new IMO Marpol Resolution MEPC 159(55).

Sizing, design The ACO Maripur was developed as a modular system of four basic sizes for purification of wastewater from 25, 50, 100 and 200 people. However ACO marine are able to offer bespoke solutions for all requirements.

The bioreactor is produced from stainless steel AISI 316Ti as standard. Lower cost internally coated black steel options are available on request.

The ACO Maripur units are suitable for power supplies 380 - 460 v and 50/60Hz.
