create reflection about possibles improvements concerning to urban planning and architecture renovation for the region, such as: • Requalification and restoration of historical buildings; • Make propositions to optimize the mass intercity transportation system, for instance train and tram (recover the original use); • Provide new connections and pathway between neighborhoods that the train line segregated;

• Create an Urban Park to the community; • To propose public facilities. It is about an urban transformation on a historical site, that now consists in a derelict land, to become an Train Station contemplated with an urban park. Perspective of Rotunda - proposed building to be used as an Open Railway Museum This perspective above shows the Rotunda, a circular building formely used to rotate and lock up the locomotives. In contrast, with the proposed Swallow's Urban Park would be parte of the Railway Museum, where the historical locomotives could be exhibites. The city centre of Waterford (Ireland), where the project is located, combines many facilities what makes this area a potential site for development of a Health Centre and Sports Hall, the proposed design project of this semester. People can take medical care and enjoy a leisure area in a green space with easy access.

The idea also include to use the structure (panels) helping to provide natural lighting and allow visual permeability (connecting the interior and exterior).

Related to the ventilation issue, it was created courtyards placed every 2 rooms to promote the renewal of the air.

Besides, the use of sheds in the Large Spor t Hall roof's aims to take advantage of the North indirect light. Corten steel panel creating a new plan on the facade and provides lighting and ventilation for the building.

Design of School and Cultural Centre to encourage life in community _ SOCIAL APPROACH

In on hand this context presents urban vitality and a strong commerce area. On the other hand, there are a few urban fissures/ barriers: train line and electric power transmission way that cause discontinuity paths and derelict areas.


The idea is to propose buildings and new uses for the open spaces that can be combined with the actual uses and existing buildings. This way, the area can be optimized, offering safety and comfort for pedestrians and local people.

The expansion of the surroundings created residual spaces once the urban grid expanded from one side and from the other but not in the middle. Besides, the railway and electric power transmission had contributed to this segregation. Image. Viviane Matos.

During this project design my contribution was mainly during site analysis (photo mapping), diagrams to expose the context and sections about the constructed elements proposals .

CURICICA URBAN DESIGN

Urban Design Plan take places in Curicica neighborhood, Rio de Janeiro. Project developed by a team: Luciana Andrade, Marina Rocha and Viviane Matos in Architecture Urban Studio, with Professor Jacira Saavedra. The objectives are

improvement on the area, focused on urban vitality and connectivity. General proposal: social housing/dwellings, Healthcare centre, School, Library, commercial centre, Parks and square and a Cycle lane.

Cycle lanes / bike lanes consists in a essential part of the design once they promote the integration of the areas and works as a connecting lines crossing the project.

Residential: The residential blocks are opened plan, the buildings were designed to give privacy to the residents without segregating the residencia in the surroundings. In some types the building ' hugs ' the block creating a central niche intended for use with community areas and children's equipment. In this example, there are 2 access: for vehicles (1) and restricted to pedestrians (2).

Design a Business Building is proposal on Architecture Studio IV, Professor Rogerio Cardeman. Therefore, in par tnership with Giulia Panno, DreamWorks Headquarters was designed takes into account the changes that this region of the city has been through in order to revitalize of this area.

Through the sections of the project it is possible to observe the division of offices in 3 sectors: Administration, production and creation, besides the floor has an infrastructure to receive eventsAuditorium, foyer, exhibition area, and coffee shops.

The shading elements used in the design of the DreamWorks Headquarterswere the horizontal Brise and Perforated Metal Panel mobile from Hunter Douglas, both placed externally in order to produce shade as long as possible and create an aesthetic balance on the facade.

Academic project developed in par tnership with Rafael Ludiosa Architecture Studio III. 3th year, 2013. Lecturer Ivvy Quintella (prourb@fau.ufrj.br). Located in Madureira Urban Park, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In this Design Project, the concept of the building was develop by both students as well as the floor plans. The Sections and sustainable elements was design by Marina Rocha. The 3D Model and Diagram by Rafael Ludiosa.


Madureira is a middle class neighborhood in the northern zone of Rio de Janeiro. It consist in a singular diversity area: comercial, cultural and residential uses combined together. The library intent to provide recreation and education for the community.

The building highlighted the concern with sustainability and creates a harmonic solution with the surroundings areas. Besides, were create recreation spots with interactive urban furniture to encourage children's curiosity about this new space.

Roofing plan The proposed living roof or green roof, combined with solar panels intent to integrates the Library’s project design in the existing environment (Madureira’s Urban Park) in order to highlight the concern with sustainable architecture. Some of the existing facilities achieved LEED environmental cer tification. Therefore, the whole concept of the Madureira Labrary’s proposal was thought considering that this project may be certified as well.

There is a partially covered courtyard that connects the Auditorium building to the library. It is supported by a metalic structure. The rest of the building uses reinforced concrete structure.

The environments are placed observing the main ventilation and solar incidence for better thermal comfort. IFurhtermore, green roof and solar panels were designed to make the library a sustainable space.

Academic individual project design developed in Integrated Studio I, which consist in a range of classes developing one structure. The lecturer responsable for Architecture Studio was Adriana SansĂŁo ( adrianasansao@gmail.com ). 2th year, 2012. Located in Rio de Design process

Janeiro, Brazil. Regarding to this project, it aims to create a mixed building: commercial ground floor and residential on the others. In addition, design a square - open space - in front of the building.

Double skin facades, made of steel panels. This measure improves ventilation and creates an identity to the project.

Vertical Garden Detail Greenwall module was used to mounting this vertical garden. Through this module is it possible to pass a irrigation systems to supply water.

To solve the facade issue the approach include the use of Horizontal Screenpanel from Hunter Douglas. They are fixed using steel structure placed every 800mm.

REFUGE On Architecture Studio II, with Professor Ana Slade, it was proposed a retreat space: a place surrounded by nature and design to arouse reflexion and relax areas. Moreover, create nice views to the Guanabara Bay.
