Sure, you may be able to find a diet that helps you get rid of a few pounds, but then the weight starts coming back. Add to that all of the questionable fad diets and it can seem downright impossible to lose weight. Not to worry, though, as the following healthy weight loss tips will help you drop some extra pounds without sacrificing your health to do it. 1. Every calorie counts. Everything you eat will add to your calorie total, and every movement you make will subtract from that total. The mistake a lot of people make is thinking that a little nibble here and there doesn’t add up, or that a small amount of extra activity doesn’t, matter. This simply isn’t true; however, you shouldn’t obsess over calories either. The key is to remember that every calorie counts going in, and therefore should have some nutritional value to go along with it. In other words, as long as you’re eating, you should eat foods with good nutritional content. Empty calories (sugar and refined flour, for example) will add to your waistline, but they don’t deliver any nutrients. At the same time, even small amounts of exercise can add up, so don’t think you have to do a grueling sixty-minute workout two times a day. 2. Make better food choices. This and tip #1 are two healthy weight loss tips that go together. The food you eat matters, and the time to make choices is at the grocery store. That way you won’t have a bunch of empty-calorie snacks to tempt you when you are at home. Whole grains, low-fat dairy, lean sources of protein, healthy fat, and fresh fruits and vegetables tend to be among the healthiest foods you can buy. Aim for high-fiber foods whenever possible. Remember to eat a wide variety of foods from all of the food groups to make sure you are getting enough nutrition. 3. Stay hydrated. There is new evidence that drinking 64 ounces of water per day does not actually help people to lose weight. That may come as a surprise to you, but either way, you should still be sure to drink plenty of water (or other healthy beverages) every day. Your body needs water to thrive and it also helps you to digest your food more efficiently. Water makes everything in your body run better, and you will feel better when you get enough. 4. Moderation. This is my personal favorite of all of the healthy weight loss tips because it lets you eat all of the foods you love, as long as you eat them in moderation. It could be argued that fad diets, which simply do not work, are the exact opposite of moderation and that’s why they fail. Whether you like ice cream, pizza or cheeseburgers, you can still eat them.
