Project 01: Hive Grind

Hive Grind is a membership program cafe located in Vancouver. Hive Grind provides a workplace environment serving fresh food and coffee, targeted primarily to students and professionals. Common locations people study and work are libraries, coffee shops, and home, Libraries do not commonly allow food or beverages, Coffee shops are mixed with people socializing and can be noisy. Home is a comfortable place to study or work but full of distractions like house chores. Hive Grind provides a place to eat, study or work, and be comfortable without any distractions.

HIVE GRIND LOGO DEVELOPMENT

The primary logo is consist of three parts: Hive Grind wordmark, book logomark, and hexagon shape. The Logo cannot be modified other than the logo signatures provided by the brand. The Shape and proportion of Hive Grind logo cannot be modified to keep its consistency for a wider recognition to deffirent medias.

Hive Grind represents a community of hardworking individuals, It is a place for these people to study, connect, and inspire. The concept is inspired from the bee colony and how dedicated these insects to its task therefore the logo is formed from hexagons which is often a symbol to honeycombs. The logomark are made from hexagons that formed a stack of books These hexagons are stylize to have a rounded edges to give a friendly vibe to it’s demographic. The chosen typography is DIN Condensed Bold, a geometric typeface that compliments the logomark. The brand colours are Pantone 109 C (yellow), Pantone 7512 C (Brown), and Pantone Black 6 C (black). These colours symbolizes bee and coffee, it helps Hive Grind to send its message to its target audience. With all these design choices Hive Grind logo is created with a modern aesthetic perfect for students and young professionals.

Project 02: Vinea

Vinea is a wine agent with a mission to deliver an outstanding wine products from Italy to Vancouver, BC. The Wine Suppliers are Castello Di Poppiano , Sordo, and Massucco. Vinea is rebranding to develop a logo that represents the brand’s mission. This rebranding includes the marketing plan that will help Vinea to connect with its target audience, which are the local restaurants, liquor stores, and hotel bar and lounge. The purpose of these advertisements developed for Vinea is to increase its sale and to make it stand out to its competitor brands.

VINEA LOGO DEVELOPMENT

The primary logo is consist of two parts: Vinea wordmark and wine logomark. The Logo cannot be modified other than the logo signatures provided by the brand. The Shape and proportion of Vinea logo cannot be modified to keep its consistency for a wider recognition to deffirent medias.

Vinea’s new logo is a symbol of a wine that has a swirling movement inside the glass. This movement is a common routine of people who enjoy drinking wine. This is one of the step to bring the aroma and rich flavour of the wine. This makes the target audience relate to the brand by having a logo that shows their experience with the product. The logo style is approach as geometric, simple, and clean to keep its image as a high-class brand and can last for years. The typography used is Century Gothic, It is modified for it to appear as if it is 3D and has a twist movement to it just like vines. The brand colours used are Pantone 389 C (yellow green), Pantone 143 C (yellow), Pantone 220 C (Burgundy), Pantone 7652 C (purple). It represents the different colours of grapes. The Vinea logo is simple and recognizable to the target audience, It also stands out from its competitors.

This is a Print ad in vancouver sun Newspaper in 5.095 x 8.587. The concept of the first series of ads are to show the steps of how to drink wine properly. The concept of the second series are a close up photography of wine related objects, the minimal black and white photos makes the slogan stands out. The colour scheme is chosen to represent elegance and vintage which is the message Vinea wants to deliver to it’s audience.

The Vancouver Community College has a campaign called “MAKE YOUR MARK” and these advertising posters are an extension of it’s current campaign. The concept is to make the target audience picture themselves on the programs VCC offers like, Design, Culinary, and Photography. The purpose of it is to make the students embrace their path to the career their taking. The demographic to this campaign are people at any age who is looking for a post-secondary school to get diploma and have a career on any program they chose to take. These posters will be seen on bus, skytrain, newspapers, VCC website, highschool campus, and in social media.

These are an advertising posters for Canada Dry. The concept is to have fake fruits around the real one to intend that Canada Dry is made with Real fruits and not made of artificial colours and flavouring. The mood of this ad is to make it refreshing to the eyes of the consumer that is why the colour palette are bright and pastel. The Target audience for this ad are the one who is looking for a carbonated drink that is made with real ingredients. The age of the target audience is broad, lifestyle are those people in the middle class who doesn’t want a cheap drink nor an expensive drink. These posters can be seen in bus shelter and skytrain platforms.

Sift & Batter is a Food Magazine focusing on baking dessert and pastries. This will be an ad-free magazine therefore the contents will be recipes, baking tips, and featured articles about ingredients, healthy alternatives, or trendy desserts. The recipes that will be found in this magazine will have fruits, vegetables, and natural healthy products. Desserts can be healthy and this is what Sift & Batter promotes to it’s target audience. This magazine will be seen on local cafes, hotel lobby, bookstores, and grocery stores.

Project 06: Bombay Sapphire

Bombay Sapphire is a brand of gin that can be mixed with different fruits or enjoyed without pairing. The design takes after its history; first, the logomark that represents the sapphire that is called Star of Bombay. Second, the artwork represents various plants and fruits found within the ingredients with a henna–style aesthetic also inspired from Indian culture. The target audience are men and women, aged 18 to early 40’s who likes to party. This package design of Bombay Sapphire is a Limited Edition and are only distributed for purchase within high–end liquor stores until supplies last.

The smooth and complex taste of Bombay Sapphire is the result of capturing the flavours of ten exotic botanicals through a unique distillation process of vapour infusion. Unlike other gins, where botanicals are boiled together with the spirit, Bombay Sapphires distills its spirits alone. Photography is one of the art form I have interest on. It is interesting to me how composition and light interprets the story or concept of the subject. The photos shown in here has minimal aesthetic and high contrast. I experiment on different style and color grading aswell of either doing a conceptual Photography or capturing moments.

BIOGRAPHY I am Maricel Benjamen, a Graphic Designer and Illustrator from Vancouver, British Columbia. I was born and raised in the Philippines and immigrated in Canada in 2013. I graduated in Visual College of Art and Design at 2018 with a diploma in Graphic Design. I focused on doing Branding, Advertising, and Package design. I love exploring the different style in both Art and Design by using different mediums, from traditional to digital arts, and design aesthetics that are inspired from famous art movements. I have an interest on drawing, painting, food decorating, photography, and digital illustrations. I always strive for the best for my design projects until I am happy to present it to the world. I believe that there is a room for improvement in any design therefore I will continue to explore and improve my skills as both Artist and Designer.
