This project is about experimenting typography, going on to examine how the represented word itself transmits a meaning. The goal is exploring a series of surprising processes and investigations to see where they can lead us. Everything started with a poem written in a language that I cannot read looking at the typography as a form of drawing beyond the literal meaning of each written word.

In the analysis of the text in its original version, what attracted me was that the letters seemed to take shape, distancing themselves from a rigid straight line almost into a sort of dance or more metaphorically out of rebellion. My exploration then moved in search of something that visually expressed the sense of movement.

After various experiments, the techniques I used and combined with each other are the suminagashi technique and ink imprinted on paper by rotating two marbles in a free way inside a box.

7

Finally, the bizarre thing is that when I got the text in English, the translation confirmed my initial feeling, the idea of saying “enough-it’s enough!” and going away.

The choice of the words “Spirited-Undisciplined-Rebellious used to realize three posters, has encouraged me even more towards this concept of movement and freedom.

From there I moved to apply my images in the world of design. For that I decided to realize a set of suitcases. Evocative object in all its manifestations. It can say something about who uses it but can also be very mysterious if seen as a container of lives and stories. The choice of the “right suitcase is often difficult and full of practical consequences of a certain importance, ranging from a perfect expert tourist, to the indomitable traveler, to the frightened beginner. The suitcase is furthermore, synonymous with travel as knowledge, opportunity, discovery and possibility to learn. But it can also be a small house, a treasure chest of memory, a magical object, capable of containing the past and the future. I decided then to create a collection for suitcases and travel accessories.

Family Crest

From the remote past ages, the family crest constituted a usual means of identification, a graphic representation of one’s last name. With this idea in mind, I tried to create a distinctive sign that could represent myself but above all my parents. I started then analyzing the words that characterize the story of my family by looking for something that turned out to be a sort of logo with a “noble appearance.

From 2D to 3D

In the dictionary the word creativity is the art or the ability to create and invent. For a child, every moment of life, starting from the first simple explorations, is a creative act that helps him to invent himself. According to Bruno Munari, creativity, invention and imagination work in memory, creating relationships between what one has learned, and creativity cannot exist without knowledge. Bruno Munari (October 24, 1907, Milan – September 30, 1998, Milan) was an Italian artist, designer, and inventor who contributed fundamentals to many fields of visual arts (painting, sculpture, film, industrial design, graphic design) in modernism, futurism, and concrete art, and in non-visual arts (literature, poetry) with his research on games, didactic method, movement, tactile learning, kinaesthetic learning, and creativity. The three rules of Munari’s approach have always been to know, to understand and to communicate, whether the subjects are related to art, design or planning a project.

Munari stated that the development of skills and knowledge in children had to materialize in experimental actions and activities. The method is based originally on the principles of “Active Discovery Learning” developed by psychologist Jean Piaget and followed by physician and educator Maria Montessori. At the heart of Bruno Munari Method is the didactic principle of “non dire cosa fare ma come” (do not say what to do, but how) which is at the centre of Montessori’s philosophy as well. In fact, the pedagogical thought of Maria Montessori could be summarized in the concept of helping the child to develop his own skills in autonomy and independence. Maria Montessori (August 31, 1870, Chiaravalle- May 6, 1952, in Noordwijk aan Zee, Netherlands) was an Italian physician, educator, and innovator, acclaimed for her educational method that builds on the way children learn naturally. She opened the first Montessori school—the Casa dei Bambini, or Children’s House—in Rome on January 6, 1907. Subsequently, she traveled the world and wrote extensively about her approach to education, attracting many devotees. During World War II, Montessori developed Education for Peace in India and earned two Nobel Peace Prize nominations. There are now thousands of Montessori schools in countries worldwide. From here came the idea for my project. The realization of a 3D element that proves that knowledge must not be understood as something static that children assimilate passively, but rather as something dynamic, learned through experimentation, practice, and creativity. In this sense, the adult must not overlap with the children but help them develop their cognitive and experiential style through play, exploration, and action. Only in this way children can learn to stimulate their imagination and creativity.

Mass Customization

This project is about to work on something familiar and used frequently, designing a fully-customized object. The goal was, therefore, considering the product not only from an aesthetic but also from a functional point of view. Considering that we spend most of our lives walking and running from side to side performing an endless series of actions, often repetitive, to complete our daily activities. I thought to make the most of this energy by recycling it with another form of energy for our technologies working on a portable charger that transforms the energy of the movement into electricity.

Power Kicks is a combined system with a shoe that allows a different walk from the usual. The idea is in fact that of a comfortable and ergonomic shoe, which while walking or running uses the thermal energy converting it into electricity to charge a portable charger inserted in the shoe.

When the user has run out of energy on his phone or tablet, after walking for a certain period of time (about two hours to get the maximum charge) he can use the portable charger inserted into the midsole of his shoe to charge his devices. The battery compartment, which opens and closes with a simple click sliding the battery, can be found on the right side of the shoe.

At the speed of each particle, as indeed at the speed of any body, is associated a form of energy called kinetic energy. The sum of the kinetic energy of all the particles of a system constitutes a form of energy of the matter called thermal energy.
