DESCRIPTION An office space for 4 Directors, 9 Department heads, 3 commissaries, 27 staff, 3 meeting rooms, 1 lounge area, 1 prayer room, with a modern industrial design emphasizes the raw and unfinished materials. The project taken 4 months long to finish the construction and the interior finishes.

JC3 Hall located in the heart of West Jakarta center shopping mall, Neo Soho Mall/Central Park Mall, is a unit of 1200 m2 multi-function halls that consists of Main Hall with capacity of 350-380 seats, lobby area, pantry, meeting room, office space, youth & teen with capacity up to 140 seats, and playground/kids area.

These halls can be rented for any occations, special events, and functions that are needed. Some of spaces are also able to be split depending on the capacity that is needed, using a moveable insulated doors. The main hall has a facility of control room for audio, lighting and multimedia for big events. The Design Approach is taken to be elegant modern interactive walls yet to be neutral that function not only for design purposes but also to help difussing the sound as well as sound insulation. The Construction starts on December 2018 and completed on March 2019, from the flooring to the MEP was conducted in house under supervision of our Project Manager & Coordinator to ensure the delivery of the design and space was according to design, the vision of the clients, and more importantly still in the budget.

Spatial Daylight Autonomy describes the percentage of floor area that receives at least 300 lux for at least 50% of the annual occupied hours. As per the LEED requirements, a 55% sDA is the minimum to achieve the credit.

The Central Atlanta Library presents an exciting design challenge, with the desire to keep the design sentiment of the brutalist architecture by Marcel Breuer while also trying to update the library to modern standards of performance. This makes me think of a quote I commonly hear while working on Georgia Tech project, “You cannot unlearn what you have learned”. We (The AEC Industry), have learnt that Daylight is good. From research, articlesand more over the course of the last 20 -25 years we have learned how beneficial natural light is in spaces involving learning. With the technology advancements over the last decade, the dictionary meaning of libraries has evolved from “a building or room containing collections of books, periodicals, and sometimes films and recorded music for people to read, borrow, or refer to” to a place of learning. Books and periodicals are quickly shifting to PCs, MACs and Kindles.

A few decades ago, concrete buildings with small openings to the outside were great to keep the perishable books safe, out of sun. These buildings however, don’t respond to the building materials, HVAC, glass type and other technological advancements observed in the AEC industry. With high performance facades that can keep the heat out, and let the daylight in, it is no longer an either/or decision. With the desire to maintain an iconic building, would we have to “Unlearn, what we have learnt” over the last few dacades. My passion for sustainable and healthy spaces says NO. The design has been carefully assessed to have the least amount of impact on the exterior facade and get the high possible daylight to the occupied spaces of the building. With an iterative process and data driven decision making, we certinaly can find the “optimal” solution to create a great space while maintaining the spirit.
