The Stacks

Based on the climatic analysis conditions on the site, stacked terraced units on the northern facade were designed to optimize indirect light

Urban Multi-Use Residential Housing in Flagler Village

Stacked terraced units were placed on the western facade in order to allow residents for balconies overlooking Third Ave

Cantilevered units were designed to provide shade for the southern facade, in which is a necessity in South Florida

Massing Form

Flagler Village is located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, there is a lack of neighborhood serving to retail, high concentration of low income housing, and a lack of greenery. Flagler village has much potential though, due to its convenience and location in proximity to downtown Fort Lauderdale and I-95. This is crucial because it has the potential to reward walk ability and generate a favorable neighborhood. The Stacks, a multi-use residential housing development provides a pedestrian friendly environment by developing a multicultural community by providing diverse unit types that accommodate people looking for luxurious units as well as attainable housing. The Stacks provide an intricate set of unit types with all slightly different floor plans including market-rate units, studio, and attainable housing units. Designed on the first floor of this housing development is a series of retail spaces in order to provide for the neighborhood and the residents access to coffee shops, art galleries, and restaurant. By developing a multi-use building in Flagler Village, it will benefit the residents by serving more retail, green space and vibrancy to the neighborhood. By implementing these amenities, it administers a social engine for promoting walk ability.

The design of The Stacks lies all into the diversity of the different unit types shown on the floor plan. There are no units that are identical to each other throughout the entire floor plan. This design challenge was done intentionally in order to emphasize the way diversity is to be celebrated in this project. The market rate units are strategically placed where the most desirable views are as well as providing a balcony for the residents. All units are accessible through the main circulation path

Designing a better Miami where transportation encourages communities to come together. The architectural form of branching demonstrates this idea of connecting people through merging different forms of structure and circulation to allow for various types of transportation. Ultimately, this concept forms a community by promoting public transit and pedestrian paths through a series of experiences and connections. This sustainable system will become a key collection point and icon for the diverse Miami which deals with sea level rise to the extreme.

Air Flow analysis through site . The higher the intensity of the wind is displayed by a darker shade of gray.

22

Noise level analysis is based on the congestion of vehicular and pedestrian traffic on the site, Private vs. Public programmatic design choices were based off this analysis

Private vs. Public diagram displays areas throughout the floor plan where public areas tend to be compared to private. The private areas are shown by the darker shade of gray.

Circulation Diagram displays where pedestrians typically walk, shown in the darkest shade of gray.

Subtext is a multi-use structure consisting of a library, multi-media center, simulation room, and exhibition located in Fort Lauderdale Florida. The concept behind the form of the building is based on the terrain of site. This is why subtext gradually decreases in height in order to fit the context of the pre-existing site. The form of this building is also influenced by the climatic aspects of the site in order to be as sustainably fit as possible. This includes allowing for natural airflow to flow through the structure through the design of implementing a courtyard and orienting the building in perpendicular to the wind flow of Fort Lauderdale Florida. Other passive design techniques include a green wall air-filtration system which allows for calming aesthetics in the library portion of the project. The placement in programmatic design is also based on the analysis of the pre-existing site which includes analysis on noise level, accessibility, and circulation.

These are four luxurious single family homes located on Medill St. in Chicago, IL. The client was interested in creating some contrast in the traditional neighborhood . We accompled this by designing a contemporary exterior design as well as chose brick colors that are typically displayed on modern architectural buildings.
