our mission It is the mission of the West Alabama Mental Health Center to provide effective mental health services to individuals meeting eligibility requirements regardless of ability to pay. We are committed to continually improve the quality of care and services provided to customers. WAMHC will collaborate with stakeholders to insure mutual accountability for resource stewardship and system effectiveness. The organization will operate locally responsive programs to meet the needs of the community and promote the development of innovative programs in traditional and non-traditional settings when resources are available.
The WAMHC is a member of the Alabama Coalition for a healthier Black Belt and a recipient of the Bristol, Myers-Squibb Foundation Grant.

Adult Mental Illness Program Individual, Family and Group Counseling; Family Support/Education; Case Management; Crisis Intervention and Psychiatric Assessment; Illness Management and Recovery (IMR) Child and Adolescent Program Individual, Family and Group Counseling; Consultation; Psychiatric Assessment; Mobile Access for Children’s Services (MACS); and Case Management. Intellectual Disability Services Program Day Habitation; Case Management; Supportive Employment and Psychiatric Assessment. Substance Abuse Program Personalized Assessments and Evaluations; Intensive Outpatient Groups. Prevention Parenting Classes; Community Groups; Community-based Educational Programs; School Educational Programs; Summer Camps; HIV/Aids Education; CARE; in-service and Workshop training.
OUR VISION West Alabama Mental Health Center’s vision is to provide responsive and accessible services to mental health consumers in Choctaw, Greene, Hale, Marengo and Sumter counties. Vital to our vision is a commitment to recovery-oriented consumer-centered care. To ensure this vision of care, WAMHC will explore ways to flex services and utilize community resources to promote consumer access to necessary sevices. The development of these services will emphasize comunity based settings to support care within the community and decrease the use of more costly institutional care. Care of consumers will be provided in the most cost-effective manner possible emphasizing a seamless system of care for the consumer.
