Barbara Bush Flex Building Senior Year - ARCH 405

To dictate our site plan, the Barbara Bush Drive near the Bush Library was extended onto our site as The Presidential Walk. This walk a reference to Military Walk, a pedestrian path on Texas A&Mâ€™s main campus, and emphasizes the axis ending at the Bush Presidential Library. The buildings on the College of Architecture site all have street access, providing the college with a shared grass quad.
The Barbara Bush Building is designed as a flexible academic building for a new College of Architecture. The Flex building is one of six academic buildings within the master plan along with a main building for the College. The Flexible building contains an Auditorium, Department Offices, Studio spaces, Classrooms, Faculty Offices, Computer lab, and break out spaces. The most important drivers for the design was to create a building that can be reused for different classroom uses and it respects the character of Texas A&Mâ€™s campus.
We wanted to create light and open spaces for Architecture students to work, but we also wanted to include places for the students to take a break, get some fresh air, and pin-up their work to practice their presentations or show off what they are working on. The break space allows an informal â€œliving roomâ€? type of space for the students to access the out doors while the pin-up space allows for circulation between the studio spaces and a space for student work to be on display.
Bones Model The building is constructed with glu lam and concrete members. Forty-five feet and twenty-eight feet are the dimensions of the two major bay types within the project.

Beam to Girder and Column Detail
Glu lam was chosen as the main building material because it requires no additional fireproofing, allowing the structural connections of the building to be visible to the students within the college of Architecture. The idea is that if students can see different types of connections then they will have a better understanding of how the connections work.

South East Elevation The exterior of the building is clad in aluminum panels, thin limestone tiles, and limestone blocks to comply with the vernacular of Texas A&Mâ€™s research park. The studio balconies provide shading for the facade of the building, but additional sun shading is provided by the wind walls on the South East and North West facades of the building. A mesh created from aluminum panels compose each wind wall, allowing some light to pass through, and creating a flowing movement on the building facades.
Colorado Home Junior Year - ARCH 305
Kristin Armstrong, a Gold Metal Cyclist, is the client for this project. The goal is to provide outlook to nature for her and her family within this Colorado abode.
This design is based on bike tireâ€™s design, with the outlook from the house created from the bands of windows on the circular wall. The circulation between rooms being against the curved walls, also helps to lead the viewer to look outside.
The main building material is stone, allowing the thermal mass to absorb solar heat. The three curved bands of windows are south facing to absorb as much light as possible, while the shape of the building blocks the front door from the west sun.
Californian Home Junior Year - ARCH 305
Palm Springs, California
To create a sense of safety, the public and private functions of the house are separated into two buildings, with the public building closest to the street.
A 1,000 square foot residence in a hot and dry climate for Gold Medal Cyclist, Kristin Armstrong. She has a passion for the outdoors and enjoys spending time with her family, both main drivers behind the design.
The structures are made out of 18â€? thick rammed earth walls with a wooden roof that has a aluminum sheet top. These thermal mass walls will heat up during the day, and re-radiate the heat to the house at night when the temperature drops.

Separate the Performance Area
The Community Center was designed to provide a new space for the visitors and residents of Castiglion Fiorentino to gather, collaborate, and learn. Because the location of the building is just outside of the historic medieval walls, it was important to reference the old motifs of the town, while also creating a new environment to show off the local talents.
Extrusions and Rotation
The open cafe is used within the Community Center to act as an independent bar, or to house larger meetings that the classroom space cannot support. Above the cafe, the gallery and office space for the building can be found. The second story is used for these spaces because they are more private functions. The open plaza between the main building and performance building serves as a transition space between the formal performance area and the casual atmosphere of the cafe and classroom spaces. The smaller building is located closer to the street so that both buildings maintain a view to the historic part of the town and to the valley below.
Educational Facility Sophomore Year - ARCH 206

Biomedical City, Kenya
The goal for the project was to design one of the Residential Districts of the The UBRICA One-Health Biomedical city. Our group focused on a school for the local residents of the Kenyan city. The main goals of the project were on using sustainable materials, providing an inviting space for children to learn, and blending in with the vernacular style of the area.
The classroom spaces are designed to shelter the children within, but allow passive cooling through air moving through the fenestration on the two large walls of each classroom.
Bamboo was chosen as the main building material for the educational facility because it is relatively inexpensive and a sustainable building material. Wooden trusses support the curved roofs of the different parabolic spaces. To contrast the lighter material of the bamboo, stone blocks are used to create the retaining walls that rest on the concrete slabs.
Freshman Year - ENDS 106 & ENDS 116
La Jolla, California The magic bridge is a structure built over a Californian arroyo, for a Magician to watch the coastal sunset. The bridge ends at a triangle, has a sloped walkway, and the bridge grows thinner creating forced perspective. This was done to mimic a magic trick because the bridge appears longer than it is in reality, just like card tricks deceive the viewer's eyes.
Freshman Year - ENDS 106 & ENDS 116
This project departs from the Magic Bridge creating a space similar to the bridge.
The side walls are each composed of five "gills" that open to allow wind and sunlight to enter the space, and close to keep the elements out of the structure. As the resident travels through the space, the roof drops, making the space more private, but the floor widens to keep the space from becoming cramped.
Italian Printmaking Spring 2017

The Spring Semester of 2017, my Junior year, I participated in Texas A&M’s Study Abroad program to Castiglion Fiorentino. During the 90 day adventure I was a student in an architecture studio, as well as classes including The history of Science, Italian Language, and Mixed Media. The Mixed Media class went into learning classical ways of Italian print making, and involved everything from mixing our own inks to carving relief plates and etching on copper plates. The class taught me about the various methods of making prints from monotypes to monoprints, and plates made of everything from old signs, to copper and chipboard.
