MAIN CONFERENCE CENTRE La Maddalena, Italy (2008-10) The main conference centre was designed as the metaphor of the relationship between built and natural environment: coexisting, peering into each other as original base concept behind the whole Arsenal overhaul. Designed to host the main G8 conferences and, become a yacht centre, the building dominates the adjoining piazza within its wrapping glazed second skin and, hoovers magically above sea and eye level. The skins sheds the interiors from sunlight and allows visibility towards the exterior: Interior and exterior are connected. An atrium distributes flows to a small cafe, kitchen and WC, and with a theatrical staircase connects to the first floor where the main conference room and the side meeting and dining rooms are. SBA with La Maddalena Scarl (contractor) designed and delivered the architectures, urban and landscapes within 18 months.

EX ARSENALE La Maddalena, Italy (2008-10) The ex Arsenal was once used, during cold war, until ‘80 as strategic base for careening, engineering and staffing of the italian military fleet, becoming unused and polluted until recent overhaul. Major historic buildings (wood stocks and cisterns) have being retained in place, hosting new functionality such like commercial centres and SPA with the addition of a luxury hotel and two hundred circa moorings. Public areas are being totally redesigned, with slow traffic areas, extensive greenery along the perimeter and granite walkways and docks extending for 2 kilometres circa onto the internal water basin in the Arsenal. Prominent areas have been treated with featured colours, materials, seatings and lighting in vibrant and new sparkling piazza.

SKY TERRACE, HOTEL EXTENSION Lambeth, London (2015) The new built hotel, based in the calm Albert Embankment near Vauxall, is set to open in mid 2017. Hamilton’s is involved in the completion of the project and the design of a Sky terrace extension on the 14th floor to host a panoramic cigar club. Peculiarity of the project is it’s stunning view onto the river Thames and the north bank from the Houses of Parliaments to the Tate Britain. A moveable glazing system allows opening/closing of the terrace during clear and bright weather with the opportunity to completely shade the innermost area of the terrace. A panoramic lift offers a direct rising view from the ground floor to the top floor.

SAN GORG DEVELOPMENT Malta (2016) GA lead the design team to complete the schematic space planning and interior design for a large development in San Gorg bay on the island of Malta for a renowned luxury hotel chain: refurbishing their existing luxury hotel and adding value to their land with 10 new residential and two high rise towers, creating a totally developed enclosed new urban area. The hotel is dislocated on 7 + 1 lower ground levels, 235 rooms, to be completely redesigned within its existing internal room division. Public areas, restaurants, room were all part of a fresh new internal refined environment. Elegance, fluidity, consistency and reliability were the key concept for the refurbishment. The residential development is based ten 10-15 storeys towers to accommodate luxury unit apartments with plenty of sunlight and amenities. Each apartment hosts 1-3 bedroom units, allowing for common guest services, kitchen and large living rooms, varying in size and extension, from 100sqm to span across 2 levels in duplex solution up to 300sqm. The building are connected with inner corridors and to elegant concierge areas.

A Tendering package has been produced in coordination with structural and MEP engineers, with the production of CGI and visual schematic for presentation. Planning permission has been finally granted, and; ALC has been appointed to do the work, my responsibility being in having the architectural design finalised into construction details. I have been issuing order for the steel beams, wood joists, insulation (etc.) and bathroom appliances, and skylight and finalising the design according to variations. Daily visit and constant liaison with suppliers, consultants, and labour on site. Visit to address and solve practical issues. Visual self produced.

12

The design included the complete redesign of the 900sqm unit to allocate a family of five and house staff, across 4 existing levels and the new built 200sqm basement. Existing floors and walls (where necessary) were to be completely stripped out, replaced by metal, wood and concrete composite floor packages. My responsibility was to manage the architectural design from concept through to realisation on site. Liaising with the structural engineer was principal duty in order to: create a 3D model of the new built and the time schedule of temporary propping and final building. Addressing Building Control issues, and liaising with product manufacturers to gain effective solution in each and every matter, as well as liaising with planning adviser to make the design compliant with the codes and legislation. My responsibilty was to complete the interior design of joinery and appliances for bedroom, kitchen and bathrooms, to proceed issuing the orders while on-site.

25

In the graceful neighbourhood of Holland Park, ALC was involved in the design of the refurbishment of a terrace house, panning across 4 existing levels with a basement extension of 200 sqm.
