Dear Parents and Carers, You will be aware that at The Grove we believe our students deserve the best opportunities to speak with the most inspirational figures and role-models. In just the last two years the school has hosted Kayode Damali (Top 10 of the ‘Top 100 Most Powerful Young Entrepreneurs in the World’ and a contestant on The Apprentice), Ben Dyer (Award winning Entrepreneur and Co-Founder of the UK's largest Enterprise Challenge), Tim Maccabee (MD of Ducati UK) and Dr Matt Kearney (National Clinical Director for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, NHS England).

Sir David has an impressively wide range of invaluable experience. He has been Chairman of the Bank of England, a Director of multiple FTSE 100 Index companies (including Tate & Lyle PLC and GKN Sankey Limited), a member of the Board of the Royal Opera House and 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery. Sir David was appointed a Knight Bachelor in The Queen’s Birthday Honours List in July 1991. In November 2007 he was commissioned to be a Deputy Lieutenant of Shropshire and he became The Honorary Patron of Shrewsbury Town FC in January 2010. I look forward to sharing the student’s views with you after Sir David’s visit. Enjoy a wonderful weekend.

3 On the 26th November, The Grove School and Sixth Form will host Sir David Lees for a special talk, followed by a question and answer session. This is a unique and incredibly rare opportunity to speak with a highly experienced, internationally recognised business figure once described as ‘the quiet revolutionary’.

Guest Army Speaker The school were fortunate enough to welcome Lieutenant Colonel Sulle Alhaji into school last Thursday to talk to students about his life and career in the British Army. He has an interesting story of overcoming adversity, social mobility, bullying, dealing with dyslexia and more. Having travelled all the way from Surrey that morning, he delivered an inspirational, engaging, energetic and often humorous presentation, which was well received by all students. Year 7 Art In Art our Year 7 students have been getting creative with clay for Christmas! They are currently making, designing and decorating clay pots which will be painted and fired in time for Christmas. Look out for some lovely handmade gifts coming home!

Armistice Day On Monday, we marked Remembrance Day. At 11:00 students participated in a minutes silence to reflect on those who courageously lost their lives both in conflicts from the past and the present. Students from Year 7 contributed to a wonderful display of artwork, poems and letters of thanks to honour the occasion.

North Shropshire Football Tournament Our Year 9 boys took part in the North Shropshire Football Tournament recently and played incredibly well in awful conditions. Our Year 10 girls are playing in their North Shropshire Football Tournament today and we wish them the best of luck and look forward to hearing how they got on!
