WEEKLY BULLETIN

Friday

Dear Parents and Carers, Before half term I was sharing with you our school values and what they mean to us. The last value to talk about is equality.

At The Grove equality means: Treating everyone fairly and equitably.  Removing barriers to achievement.  Accepting everyone as individuals.  Ensuring that everyone has equal access to the  things that they need to succeed. Providing support for all students.  In practice you will see: Personalised lessons to suit the needs of all  learners. Outstanding support for students with particular  learning needs and disabilities. Personalising learning to stretch and challenge  the most able. Outstanding pastoral care to help students  overcome social and emotional difficulties. Students being given a voice to share their ideas  and thinking.

Halloween and Bonfire Event We recently held our spooktacular Halloween and bonfire event. It was a fantastic evening and we would like to thank everyone for supporting us, funds raised from the event are invested back into the school. A big thank you to Stuart France for this incredible photo of our fireworks across the canal basin in Market Drayton.

Armistice Day We are marking Armistice Day by selling poppies within school and delivering information through Tutor periods. On Sunday, our Sixth Form students will be representing both The Grove School and Sixth Form by taking part in the Remembrance Service in the town and laying a wreath. On Monday, at 11:00am the School and Sixth Form will fall silent as we observe the minute silence.

Emotional Literacy Support An ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) is a member of staff trained to support young people in the development of their emotional literacy. The ELSA here at The Grove School is Karen Harrison-Blount. What is Emotional Literacy?  Understanding and coping with the feelings about ourselves and others.  Developing high self-esteem and positive interaction with others.  Being emotionally literate helps children focus better on their learning. Some of the areas the ELSA may work on:  Self-esteem.  Recognising emotions.  Social skills.  Friendship skills.  Anger management.  Loss and bereavement. How does the ELSA work?  A regular slot during the school week 20-45 minutes.  Sessions can be individual or in small groups and tailored to the child’s individual needs.  Sessions include a variety of activities and include time to talk.  A young person’s progress will be reviewed on a halftermly basis. ELSA is on a referral system from staff, if parents/carers have concerns they are welcome to raise them with the young person’s Tutor or Head of Year.

Clubs & Enrichment Activities  Band rehearsals run after school on Fridays 3:00-4:00pm, in D07.  VoiceBox The Grove School Choir. Rehearsals take place Monday lunchtimes in D07, all are welcome!
