Gingerbread World Record Attempt The Ginger and Spice Festival collaborated with The Grove School in an attempt to attain a Guinness World Record during this year’s annual Ginger and Spice Festival. Last Friday morning we welcomed BBC Radio Shropshire into school to interview organisers and students taking part in the record attempt. Three hundred students from The Grove and Longlands Primary School, led by volunteer Jana Jacobson, then attempted to break the world record for the ‘Most People Decorating Gingerbread Men Simultaneously’ – a Guinness World Record that has never been attempted before. The students hoped to take the title by each decorating a biscuit at the same time; each biscuit had to feature two eyes, a mouth and three buttons to qualify for the record. The biscuits were very kindly donated by the Original Biscuit Bakers. We now eagerly await to hear from Guinness World Records as they review our attempt to become record holders!

In practice this is what we aim to see across our school:  Everyone making positive choices.  Demonstrating understanding of others.  Taking ownership and responsibility for our actions.  Always following school policies.  Always speaking with respect and understanding.  Building relationships based on honesty and kindness.

Dissection Evening

Speed Networking Event

Members of staff spent an evening at West Midland Safari Park to take part in a dissection recently. Staff were introduced to the Safari Academy and the fantastic resources they have there. The Grove staff took part in the dissections of lamb hearts and mackerel (all meat is then given to the carnivores at the safari, so there is no waste!), staff learnt about some fantastic opportunities for educational visits and A level Biology practical sessions based at the Safari Park.

On Monday, all our Year 8 students had the chance to ask questions and chat to representatives from 15 different employers, FE and HE institutions from our local area as part of a Speed Networking Event. Just some of the firms involved were Schneider, Sever Gorge Countryside, Job Centre Plus, Rocket Marketing, PM Training, Be Bold Public Relations, Capgemini, Rhienmetall, BAE Systems Land, Stoke on Trent FE College, Staffordshire University, University of Shrewsbury (Chester), Doncasters Aerospace, Shrewsbury College Group, Francescos Hair Salon and Densie McGowan from Evanji who is also our school business enterprise adviser. This was a great opportunity for our students to speak to a range of people about future careers, from a wide range of backgrounds: self-employed business people, apprentices and students. We would like to thank all our guests who attended for giving up their time to benefit our students.

Macmillan Coffee Morning Recently our Sixth Form students baked and sold some deliciously tasty cakes and biscuits as part of a Macmillan Coffee Morning. Well done all!
