WEEKLY BULLETIN Dear Parents and Carers, It gives me great pleasure to welcome you and your children back to this new academic year. On Monday all staff returned feeling refreshed from their summer break to prepare for welcoming our students back on Tuesday and Wednesday and what a great start we have had. I held assemblies with all year groups on Wednesday to remind them of our vision and values and I was very proud of the standards of uniform, the excellent conduct that I observed and the great attitudes of so many of our student community. We have a busy year ahead where our aims as a true community school are to ensure that we all work together to encourage every child to realise their full potential. Every student here at The Grove has the ability to take ownership of their learning and to absolutely shine and the staff are certainly dedicated to enabling everyone to do just that. Issue 24 Friday 6th September 2019 Induction Our new Year 7's joined us on Tuesday, all very smart and enthusiastic! They spent the day enjoying a morning of team building and the afternoon looking for Mrs Taylor who suspiciously disappeared! The Year 7's worked together in their new tutor groups to solve some clues and solved the mystery and were very happy to learn that Mrs Taylor was safe and well! Our new Year 12 students spent the day team building at Escape Rooms in Stoke, followed by a lunch at Pizza Hut! Although they were proved to be very skilful, they were not successful in escaping the toughest challenge which only 3% of participants mange to solve and escape!

HegartyMaths Super School We have some fantastic news to share; HegartyMaths have recognised The Grove School as one of their ‘Super Schools’, placing us as one of their top-performing schools in the country. The Grove School is also placed fourth nationally for the amount of feedback given to students by Maths Teachers and for the amount of ‘Fix Up 5 Questions’ answered by students. HegartyMaths is an online learning platform used by all students in Maths at The Grove School for Years 7-11. All students have weekly homework set on HegartyMaths, and this is the platform that teachers use to provide the majority of written feedback for students. The tasks consist of a tutorial video that the students watch and make notes on in their Hegarty exercise books, then a quiz of questions that match the examples in the tutorial video. Through the course of the year, our students have worked really hard spending on average 10 hours each on the platform and answering more than half a million questions! Claire Lyth, Director of Studies for Mathematics at The Grove School commented: "Students at The Grove School have shown great determination in Maths, especially through their use of HegartyMaths. Every year we see a strong link between the amount of time students spend on HegartyMaths and their levels of progress. I am so proud of the achievements of all of our students and teachers, especially as we remain in the top 5 nationally for the number of ‘Fix Up 5 Questions’ answered and the amount of feedback given by staff to students.”

A Level Results

GCSE Results

The Grove School, is continuing the great achievements within the Marches Academy Trust with a fantastic set of A level results. Students and staff are celebrating 100% pass rate in many subjects across the 16 offered. Students will follow a varied pathway from Sixth Form with some continuing their study at university in subjects such as Biology, Geography, History, Sports Science, Accountancy and Business Management. Whilst others will start careers in Agriculture, Farming and Mechanical Engineering. Mr Rayner, Head of Sixth Form commented: “The students have worked so hard and that is evident in the results they have achieved. We have a great facility offering a wide range of extra-curricular activities making the Sixth Form appealing to students leaving The Grove School to continue their studies in our onsite Sixth Form”. Headteacher of The Grove School, Mrs Taylor added: “I am extremely proud of the results our students have achieved this year. The Grove Sixth Form has a great team of specialist staff to support students through their studies. The continuation of study from The Grove School to the Sixth Form offers huge benefits and that is clear from the results achieved. I wish every student a happy and successful future”.

The Grove School, Market Drayton offers a balance of academic progress and tailored pastoral support which is shown in the GCSE results where students and staff are celebrating. The staff work closely with students to offer tailored support in order to ensure each and every student reaches their potential. The best results have been seen where there is an effective working relationship between the student, teacher and parents; they work together in order to ensure the student gets the best from their education and has resulted in those students exceeding their challenging targets. It is exciting to see the top performing students continue their education in The Grove Sixth Form from September offering a continuity in education which leads to many studying at top universities. Headteacher of The Grove School, Sonia Taylor added: “I am so proud that all students and staff have worked so hard which is evident in the results achieved. Many results have been achieved with the full support of parents working closely with the school. We have a specialised team here at The Grove School meaning we can offer every student a first class education”
