2012 Annual Diocesan Appeal

Our Parish Goal is $85,068 Thank you so much for your generous support of Holy Cross and the Diocese of Peoria. Without your pledges and support of the Diocese we could not continue offering many ministries and services to the parishioners of Holy Cross. With only 22% of our parishioners responding, the opportunity still exists for those who have not yet responded to the 2012 ADA to make a pledge. A gift to the ADA, no matter how great or small, can go a long way. A pledge of $10 or $20 a month can add up. Even a one-time gift is helpful to the cause. Remember any amount pledged and paid over our goal will come back to Holy Cross 100%. Your donation may be the one that puts us over the top! There are envelopes at the back of the church and in the Parish Office. WALK TO JERUSALEM UPDATE. Miles to date: 6,570.75 of 6,310 miles WELCOME TO JERUSALEM!!! We have reached our destination in more than enough time to witness the descent of the Holy Spirit with the apostles! Praise God for good health and strong spirits!! Thanks to all the travelers who helped make the trip a huge success. To everyone...keep praying and exercising for your spiritual and physical health throughout the rest of the year. And til next year........ Karen Olivero, Parish Nurse

Holy Cross 100th Anniversary Upcoming Events HOLY CROSS HISTORY Altar servers have been around for as long as the priests have needed them. And certainly they have been needed since day one at Holy Cross. Altar servers were altar boys until 1994 when Pope John Paul II allowed the possibility of altar girls as well. At the end of a server's duties, usually after checking the pews for papers, lost items, and misplaced hymnals, he or she will come to the sacristy and get a small reward, a candy bar. The altar servers of the past may have gotten other rewards, especially at weddings and funerals where the family might pay the server, or the priest might give the server a dollar or two. Sometimes servers were known to get in trouble too! In a recent conversation with Chick Bruns he recalled the day that he and Red Buttita were caught drinking the sacramental wine after Mass (absolutely forbidden but I'm sure they weren't the first). Mother Petronella, principal of the school, providentially, walked in just at that moment and caught the boys. They were punished by having their knuckles rapped with a ruler and sent home. The next day Red Buttita came to school with his hands wrapped up as if he had been seriously injured. Mother Petronella became quite concerned, but almost immediately the whole class began to laugh realizing that Red was faking. Chick says the good sister then began to chase Red around the room. We can only imagine what Red's confession might have been like that week. So many wonderful stories could be told by former altar servers, I'm sure. Please contact Barb Garvey at 359-6089, or with your story.

Copies are also available at the back of the church. For more information please call the Parish Office. “Meaning of the Holy Cross” Lecture.
