Dear Parishioners, The month of May is always devoted to Our Lady. Last week we honored our Blessed Mother with the traditional May Crowning. As we celebrate Mother’s Day, we reflect on the gift of our mothers. As God formed us in our mother’s wombs, our mothers talked to us, sang to us, fed and protected us, and loved us. They gave us the Gift of Life. Throughout our lives, they have continued to help and love us unconditionally. Our mothers bring us to the waters of Baptism and promise to guide us daily in our faith. We are all blessed with the greatest mother of all, The Blessed Virgin Mary. Our Lord Jesus gave to all of us His own mother to love us and guide us each day. She will always lead us to her son. Today we thank our mothers both living and deceased for all they have given to form us in the image and likeness of God. Thank you, Mother. In Christ, Father Willard

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all Mothers!! A Prayer for Mothers Good and Gentle God, we pray in gratitude for our mothers and for all the women of theory who have joined with you in the wonder of bringing forth new life. You who became human through a woman, grant to all mothers the courage they need to face the uncertain future that life with children always brings. Give them the strength to live and to be loved in return, not perfectly, but humanly. Give them the faithful support of husband, family and friends as they care for the physical and spiritual growth of their children. Give them joy and delight in their children to sustain them through the trials of motherhood. Most of all, give them the wisdom to turn to you for help when they need it most. Amen.

Seventh Sunday of Easter OUR PARISH Coffee and Donuts volunteers for May 19th are the Cobb family for the 8:00 a.m. Mass crowd and the Deptula family for the 10:00 a.m. Mass crowd. Thank you for your gift of time. An OUTREACH COLLECTION this month will be taken the weekend of May 18th and 19th. The second collection will be taken for Champaign-Piatt Catholic Charities, an organization who strives to provide help and create hope to anyone in need regardless of race, religion or economic status. Please give generously to this important organization. 2013 Annual Diocesan Appeal Have you made a pledge for the 2013 Annual Diocesan Appeal? There is still time. A gift to the ADA, large or small, can go a long way. Consider a one-time gift or a monthly pledge for six months. There are pledge cards at the back of the church and in the Parish Office. Every dollar raised to make our goal supports diocesan services and every dollar raised and paid beyond our goal comes back to us 100%.

Our Parish Goal is $77,991 FIRST MASS LED BY OUR CHILDREN. Mark your calendars and join us Sunday, June 2 nd at the 10:00 a.m. Mass which will be led by our children. Interested in helping? Call the Parish Office at 352-8748. YOU ARE INVITED to our 4th Annual Baby Shower held in the Parish Center to support our local organizations, such as Birthright and Living Alternatives, who support life. We also collect non-perishable goods for St. Vincent de Paul Society, who among many other things, help single mothers who choose life instead of abortion. Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 18th, at 12:00 p.m. and please BRING A FRIEND!! Our goal is to collect as many NEW baby items as possible, from baby beds and car seats, to pacifiers and rattles, with everything in between that is needed for newborns: formula, sheets, blankets, clothes, bottles, diapers, wipes and so on. Monetary donations are also welcome. There will be fun games to play and light refreshments to eat and all are welcome. Please call the Parish Office if you plan to attend, and if you are unable to attend you can still make a donation by dropping it off at the Parish Center. This may seem like a small thing to do, but it’s amazing what a BIG help it is to mothers who have very little. Thank you for your generosity and for supporting LIFE.

Pentecost Novena for Holy Cross Parish. We’re asking all Holy Cross parishioners to pray the Holy Spirit Novena for the parish during the nine days leading up to Pentecost Sunday. The novena began on Friday, May 10th but you can still join us. The novena can be found at Go to the site, enter your name and email address, and you’ll get the novena prayers for the day delivered to your inbox. Couldn’t be easier. You can also scroll down and click Holy Spirit Novena in the sidebar to find the prayers if you don’t want to sign up for email deliveries. Please pray for our pastor, our staff, and an ever increasing growth in faith for our parishioners. Of course, you can pray for any personal intentions as well. See the website for more details and links to these pages. Summer Catechism study. So, you know how you’ve always thought you should read the Catechism but never did because it’s big and it’s hard to read’s big. Well, now’s your chance to study the Catechism, while being guided by experts who will help you understand it. Our Catechism study will be on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. beginning June 10th and will run for 4 sessions. This summer session will study the section of the Catechism on Prayer. It’s the smallest section and perfect for the summer. We plan to do the section on the Creed, the largest section, this fall. Stay tuned for more on that later this summer. As part of the Year of Faith, Pope Emeritus Benedict asked all the faithful (that’s you) to study the Catechism and become reacquainted with the richness of the Catholic Faith. It’s also the 20th anniversary of the Catechism, so it’s the perfect time to give it a go. To register, call the Parish Office at 352-8748. Cost for materials is $25. Deadline is May 28th. TIME IS RUNNING OUT TO MAKE YOUR MAGNIFICAT RENEWAL OR NEW ORDERS!!! Please make your checks payable to “Holy Cross” not Magnificat. You may either bring it or mail it to the Parish Center, or drop it in the collection basket in an envelope marked “Magnificat”. If you would like to place a new order, please call 352-8748. The cost is $25.00 for a year, which is half the regular subscription cost because we order as a group. PAYMENT AND ORDER FORM MUST BE IN BY MAY 15th.
