LENTEN SEASON EVENTS/INFORMATION WALK TO JERUSALEM. The “Walk to Jerusalem” has begun. We will take an imaginary walk of 6,310 miles from Champaign to Jerusalem to improve not only our physical, but also our spiritual health. During Lent walk and record your mileage. 20 minutes equals 1 mile. Record your name and mileage and drop your log slip into the envelope located either in the back of church or in the Parish Center. Our goal is to make it to Jerusalem by Easter! Pray while you walk! If you haven’t participated in the past we encourage you to join in this year. We would love to have EVERYONE participate. Even if you are unable to walk, 20 minutes of armchair aerobics counts as 1 mile. Students, your gym classes count too -- just remember to pray while you play. Questions, call Parish Nurses Karen Olivero at 351-3181 or Gerrie Rein at 351-6169. KC 891 is sponsoring their annual Lenten Raffle. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25 and are available in the Parish Office or during the Fish Fry. Drawing is on Friday, March 30th at St. Matthew’s Fish Fry. Need not be present to win. PLEASE NOTE: Now available at the Fish Frys! Soy Nut Butter, Gluten Free Bread, Baked Fish, and an Ingredients List of all the goods things we have to eat.
This Sunday marks another significant milestone in the journey of our RCIA catechumen and candidates. At the 10:00 a.m. Mass, the parish will have the Rite of Sending. This rite is where we, as a parish, officially recommend our catechumen to the Bishop for admission into the Catholic Church. That decision will be acknowledged later at the Cathedral in Peoria at the Rite of Election. At the same time, those candidates already baptized but preparing to receive the Sacraments of Initiation: Reconciliation, Confirmation, and Eucharist, will be recognized at the Rite of the Call to Continuing Conversion. The entire class, together with their godparents and sponsors, will travel to Peoria to be presented to Bishop Jenky. They will then begin the final period of the RCIA, the Purification and Enlightenment, which corresponds to the Lenten season. Please keep all these candidates in your prayers. DONATIONS FOR CAKE MIXES AND FROSTINGS are needed for the FISH FRY CAKE TABLE. It takes three boxes of the same mix to make one sheet cake. Please drop off your donations in the back of the church or in the Parish Office. Donations for eggs would also be helpful as it requires up to three dozen for each week. Please bring eggs to the Parish Office. Proceeds from the cake sale benefit the orphanage that is home to our sponsored child, Lydia Patrick, through Children of Hope and Faith. Volunteers to bake cakes at the Parish Center and serve at the dinners are also needed. Please call Tracy Duchinsky at 359-3616 to volunteer.

HOLY CROSS HISTORY You may have noticed, if you were paying very close attention, that I left out 2 priests last week in our "Where are they Now?" segment. That is because, since their time at Holy Cross they have become Monsignors. 'Monsignor' is the form of address for those members of the clergy who hold titles of honor conferred by the pope, usually at the request of the Bishop. There are three ranks of Monsignors: protonotary apostolic, honorary prelate and chaplain of his holiness. Monsignor James Ramer went from Holy Cross (he was here in 1989-1990) to St. Pius in Rock Island, then on to being the pastor of St. Joseph and St. Mary in Pesotum in 1991. He's been assigned to parishes in Princeton, Philo, Bongard, East Moline, Tiskilwa, Silvis and finally ended up at our daughter parish of Our Lady of the Lake at Mahomet, assigned there in 2010. The other Monsignor, Richard Pricco, was at Holy Cross from 1962 until 1974. He has been at St. Paul's in Macomb most of the rest of his career, recently being assigned administrator of St. Rose in Rushville. Monsignor Ramer became Chaplain to His Holiness in 2007, Monsignor Pricco received the same title in 2003. If you know of anyone we've missed, or about any associate pastors of Holy Cross who have passed away, we'd love to have that information. Certainly if you have pictures of yourself with any of these devoted men, please let us know! Contact Barb Garvey (359-6089 or email@example.com). Thanks!
SPONSOR OF THE WEEK The advertisements that appear completely defray all publishing costs with which the church would otherwise be burdened. Please patronize these sponsors.
Please join in prayerful support of both the RCIA team and participants with a Spiritual Bouquet. The gift of a Spiritual Bouquet is simply a collection of prayers the giver has offered or will offer for the recipient. Spiritual Bouquet forms are available at the back of the church and in the Parish Office. Fill one out with your Lenten prayer intentions for our incoming brothers and sisters and turn it in to the collection basket or Parish Office. 4th Annual Catholic Connected: Beyond the Pew.
