Description Title: Director, IT Operations Location: MD, Gaithersburg - Corporate Headquarters Req: 02909 Summary: The Director, IT Operations is responsible for maintaining the availability of the IT infrastructure for business- systems that serve MedImmune globally. This position is responsible for accepting new and reengineered patterns of infrastructure and work to establish them into Med Immune’s operational portfolio with the active assistance of the infrastructure engineering group. The Dir., IT Operations is responsible for providing vision, problem anticipation, and problem-solving on an enterprise level related to IT operations globally. S/he anticipates IT industry future directions and relates to future operations needs and projects. The Dir., IT Operations provides oversight of infrastructure outsource partners support of systems administrators and directly manages service delivery management of infrastructure outsource partners requirements. Responsibilities: - Work with outsource infrastructure partner to Implement and maintain defined, documented and measurable industry-standard IT operations processes and procedures. - Perform trend analysis and make recommendations for continuous operational improvement; evaluate new tools and services that support improvements - Ensure that projects in domain area are carried out and adhere to schedule - Develop and maintain operating level agreements in area of technology ownership to support service-level agreements - Establish and maintain systems standards and documentation requirements (e.g., operations manuals (runbooks), build manuals, log management, monitoring, cron execution, file movement, data replication, etc.) Position - Communicate critical information to management, users and staff related to availability 11/14/2010

Requirements of infrastructure and services - Availability management: Provide organizational capability for centralized enterpriselevel availability (event) management (monitoring). - Takes a leadership role in incident management - Capacity planning: In support of the engineering group, help support ensuring that appropriate hardware/software resources for business applications on servers and storage are available; assist in performing capacity planning, assist in workload modeling/prediction and purchasing recommendations for new hardware/software or upgrades - Software upgrades and planning: Ensure the system software in area of technology ownership is updated with current, stable, supported versions of software products that meets MedImmune’s security requirements; maintain currency with operating systems and system software; plan and implement major software upgrades; ensure change management procedures and methodologies are implemented and followed; provide a current, well-managed operating environment for production processing and application development. - Maintenance window planning: Serve as the centralized resource for planning and execution of production maintenance activities in the area of technology ownership. Educational Requirements: Requirements - Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline; Masters Degree is desirable. - 10 or more years of technical and managerial experience, including 3 years of line management experience in an outsourced infrastructure environment. - At least three years (five preferred) of experience managing technical disciplines area, including programming/development experience in major projects; extensive knowledge of Windows-related hardware, software and network communications; solid UNIX experience - ITIL Foundations certification is required. Practitioner or manager-level ITIL certificates are a major plus - Extensive knowledge of service transition processes (release, change and configuration management) and service operations processes (including event management, infrastructure engineering, continuity management and activation and deactivation of services). - A proven track record of managing diverse technical staff and resources in multiple projects - Ability to plan and manage day-to-day computer operations and systems - Experience in creating and defining new operations models/procedures and explaining complex problems or situations - Project planning and management skills, including ability to identify and assess risk to determine action - Strong leadership and mentoring abilities - Excellent interpersonal skills in staff supervision, end-user support, and peer interactions at management levels - Excellent oral and written communication skills coupled with solid management and leadership ability - Experience operating in a pharmaceutical or regulated environment is required.
