The equation that defines Silvina Aguirre is rather complex: internet + paint + advanced technologies + video + performance + her own body. She seems like a schizophrenic artist, but we aren’t facing that phenomenon, we’re facing an explorer. Technologies took her on a journey across networks and all over the world (in 2005 she traveled to the Switzerland Video Festival ), but it was a lonely universe , 0-1 do not speak. She came to do different clinics and to connect with work from a physical approach, sometimes including science and some other times simply painting or executing performances. The universe of the body and studying is what defines her as an artist. She is always her own guinea pig. Together, both she-experimenter and she as an exploration model, they move forward towards various artistic levels. Always researching unknown medias until she dominates them, and then putting them aside. Vanitas in Schlifka | Molina In this concern to explore, dominate and then leave, she met academic painting. In an exhibition including performance and painting, the opening proposed a lot of action and intentions to overstep what we know as art. In her paintings she appropriates images from the history of art, by artists such as Vermeer. Not only the physical aspect of the work, but also the moment of production. By “stealing” time, she becomes the artist in his contemporaneity at the hour of producing. Transpose the viewer to that time of life where the hours were different, but the primitive feelings were the same. In this inquiry Silvina Aguirre wonders about the attributes of painting. Going back in time to understand today? Therein lies experimentation. Rather than in technique itself, rather than wanting more of art than art itself, going back to read the present day with another set of eyes. •
