KORAKORA MATIHIKO IGNITING THE SPARK OF TECHNOLOGY FOR OUR RANGATAHI MAY 17 - JUNE 1, MĀORILAND HUB Māoriland Charitable Trust has created M.A.T.C.H to enable and mentor our rangatahi to be leaders in the creative tech industry.

From May 17 - June 1, Korakora Matihiko will feature Indigenous made games, graphic novels and comics, VR, animations and 360 work, and other digital media.

Hansell started out making her own zines/comics and musically came up through underground punk and rap.

She went on to form groups Parallel Dance Ensemble (Permanent Vacation, Germany), Badd Energy (Flying Nun, NZ) and 9-member rap collective Fanau Spa. Hansell also runs projects like Kuini Qontrol (an online hub for podcasts, music and club nights) and Equalise My Vocals (amplifying creative women, LGBTQI and decolonising voices in the Pacific).

Indigenous language and culture are vital to global sustainability. To meet this challenge, INDIGI LAB have created INDIGI HACK, a 2 day hackathon for youth 8-18.

This hackathon will challenge youth to develop new technologies that aims to revitalise and retain Indigenous languages. This hackathon brings together youth with experts on design and technology, culture and language, The theme of INDIGI HACK is the importance of Indigenous languages for development, peace building and reconciliation.

Kaupapa is a talking description game in te reo māori. Creating an opportunity to fast track your language learning with your friends and whānau. In this game your kōrero is your best tool to communicate and win. It encourages you to think in te reo Māori and call on all those words you never knew you had. It’s a way to bring more of te ao Māori into your world.

YEAR ROUND OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR RANGATAHI M.A.T.C.H (MĀORILAND “AHI” TECH CREATIVE HUB) WILL PUT NEW TECHNOLOGY IN THE HANDS OF OUR YOUNG PEOPLE. Korakora Matihiko opens M.A.T.C.H which will be open weekly for rangatahi to learn and play in focused workshops, one on one training, ‘hackathons’, creative challenges, and ‘free-play’ led by industry leaders and fellow rangatahi.

These activities will build leadership capacity by encouraging rangatahi to use creative thinking and problem solving to develop and build creative solutions to given challenges.

Rangatahi who participate in M.A.T.C.H will develop creative tech literacy, mental agility and adaptability and hard technical skills. They will also develop collaboration and leadership skills through group work and tuakana-teina mentoring. M.A.T.C.H will support rangatahi to achieve in Hangarau Matihiko.
