a urban gate as haven for the contemporary and future city. The project explains the role of urban spaces and public buildings emphasizing Milan’s territorial view linked to the city development on the main infrastructures. The multicultural vocation of Milan, as Italian stage of flows in Europe, contributes to define interaction and integration areas as reaction to the heterogeneity of present cultures. The railway elevated section will be a contemporary city walls and a undefined block will be design as haven for both residential area (Padova Turri) and urban-European role of the city of Milan (via Palmanova).

the today role of a urban gate A contemporary urban gate should be a space, a filter, a new hotspot in the city. It should solve the gap between the inner city and suburbs by extending the city weft. It should be a reference for a city, maybe a symbol, probably an idea for a future urbanity. A great public space for inhabitants, for migrants, for commuters from hinterland or for errant traveller ...

a future urban landscape Volumes have shapes that rise from each different culture. The project aim to preserve singularity and individuality and to intensify how rich our world is. Figures are representative or symbolically refer to a sense of holy and sacrality. Empty spaces in between strenghten that feeling.

New Milan's Mosque The heavyest soul and the highest light within a sense of infinite space: vaults are sign of that idea and follow arabian construction types. The combined use of concrete and steel structure allows a space with no pillars inside the hall and to highlight the difference between man site and cosmos.

The contemporary thought on “live in Venice” has to start from how built woven is related with empty spaces and water. Structures and positioning will be the same, paths (or calli) and squares (campi)will follow the same proportion of the existing. The buildings’ volumes are compared with the residential ones and Scuola della Misericordia’s shape and spaces between them make expand and compress the view.

Parks outiside the angel city edge will be connected in a linear park system. The green ribbon is adjusted in order to enter in the quadras’ grid filling the incompleted areas. Public spaces, neighbourhood areas and private rooms are joint in one complete enviroment that has been measured by modelling the ground. A minimum but constant variance of the ground level let a always different image of places: colours, shades, and water level produces a changeable landscape.

surf-temporary houses for surfers. The image of Tarifa is that of a windy seaside, with a storm of colorful floating parachute and surfers landed from all over the world. It became a melting-pot of people in a wind worship. We designed simple floating recycled house-units that, all toghether channel the wind in a large and many little corridors making it even more present. Wooden wind-breakers generate dunes and houses are just led over them, hanged up by energy generators balloons, one for each unit. At evening, with the aid of the wind and the energy churned out, balloons light up and reproduce the daily image on the shore facing, at the fire-light, the quiet of the ocean.

Smallness. Public bath at the Biennale di Venezia. As Rem Koolhaas says, toilets are the first cell of a house, maybe the most techonogical. The sense of a close space contrasts with the idea of sharing that space. We started from the sense of making public a bath creating a exhibition court in which all spaces faces (corridors, toilets,...). The volume is a rain-water collector: all surfaces have the second aim to manage water, filter and store it before giving it off in the toilets.

Billy Elliot art school in London A new arts’ school in London should be a place where all contemporary and neglected arts can be organized. The main idea is to give a street, the common ground where everything happens and all people meets up. In that intern street there are many different pavilions made of polycarbonate, paper, steel ... each one houses a different subject. The upper net is an air volume with another public space for London: a skate park linked with the very close Shoreditch Park and the other schools.

urban design

Arzignano industrial area, specialized in tanning leather, is a clear example of a urban plug: a solidify ground surface doesn’t allow the water government and confines people movements. The project propose to overlap a new informal grid. Public spaces or buildings organized between, overlaying abandoned factories can generate paths that cross the area and connect the centre with green areas, fields, other urban centres. This is a first, fast aid that doesn’t provide for modifying the existing but only updating the sense of the industrial space. //

Over the wall: spaces for students in the ex-industrial area of Venice.

The San Daniele monastry has been cut off the Arsenale crenellated edge, even if it has been an important way to enter in the basin of the Darsena Grande. The today aim is this to overstep the boundary by building a new inhabited wall for students, Phds, teachers... Over the wall is a experimental way to re-read the Arsenale area, to understand the logic of spaces that missed theyr first function. //

how to deliver a city by its people or how to deliver people by using their city. In order to take care of our enviroment and resources that we have, there is a new responsability: share ideas in an overcoming cultural world; put in action images and do what is truly necessary, truly meaningful and has a real value for society, cities and the future. The grey energy that lisboners have is linked with traditions and craftworks. Produce handmade ateliers with wasted building materials could help them to find a new common feeling. a vademecum. A significant population increase and the high migration rate to the city are signal of a territory that needs to be better managed. Morrocan cities are stuffed instead of countrysides that are more and more empty and bad infrastructured (no water system, no electricity ...). African territory’s resources as water could be the first step of a reshaped city, with new images and new goals. The idea is that of a functional edge of the city that engages energy production, water treatements, public spaces for the city, and little urban farms and streets that connects close cities. It is a exportable model, reproducible and adaptable, new (the one proposed is a earth, clay and stone dam) or integrated to the many others Morrocans exhisting barrage systems. //
