PRESENTATION

Architecture has always attracted me. I grew up with my father and, as a bricklayer, he taught me how to observe the buildings that surround us. Therefore, since I was just a kid, I have always known what I wanted to do for living: I wanted to be an architect. I went ahead on this path, enlarging my interest for the construction industry and thinking of every project as an opportunity to deepen my knowledge. I strongly believe that a good architecture can improve people’s lives and sustainability is the key in the design process. This fact constantly stimulates me and encourages me to look for new challenges and innovative solutions.

ITALIAN HOMES This building is part of series of feasibility studies commissioned by a private client in Italy. The new block of apartments, located in a little village near Vicenza, comprises two one-bedroom flat at ground floor and two twobedroom flats at first and second floor. The building combined the traditional materials composing the surrounded houses (brick and rendered wall) with a minimal approach (corten window reveals and brick screen) related to the main square visible from the north west corner. In the same period I have been working on a row houses project for the same client. The complex have been designed based on sustainable principles with the aim to create a new eco-friendly development.

HOUSE EXTENSION

For this family house extension the first step was to conduct a proper survey of the whole house as the client didn’t have any reliable drawing of the existing building. The design stage was all about finding the right balance between the client’s ideas and what we thought was best for the project based on our architectural approach and experience. Good communication was key and in this specific case it really benefited the project. The final design agreed with the client consisted in an horizontal extrusion of the main façade, matching the existing “suburban villa” geometry. A contemporary touch was added through the choices of the cladding material and the internal finishes.

MANRESA 2022 Manresa 2022 is a project which aim to re-think the city in preparation for the five-thousandth anniversary of the way of Saint Ignacio, going from Loyola to Manresa. The project focuses on the strategic re-organisation of the city in order to welcome the thousands of pilgrims expected for this event. The masterplan consists in the expansion of the grotto of Saint Ignacio through the creation of new functional spaces and a meditation garden. Further more, new buildings will be constructed for the reception of the pilgrims as well as better connections for pedestrians and vehicles. The area surrounding the Cardener river will also be redevelopped as a natural extension of the new landscape.

CHIANTI STAND One of the best Italian wine is produced in Tuscany, in a region called Chianti. It is rich red wine with an harmonious taste. The best Italian winemakers get togheter every year at the Wine Fair of Verona, with the purpose of promoting and discovering the national wine. The Chianti stand takes its inspiration from the San Gimignano towers, recalling the ruby color of the wine and the wood oak in which the Chianti wine ages. The idea of arrange the 36 Chianti winemakers all around the perimeter, permits to concetrate the wine-tasting area in the heart of the stand.

What is a Library 2.0 ? Our vision for a Library 2.0 is a digital repository of information and at the same time a place for people to meet and share knowledge. We chose to work with this concept of digital repository but without forgetting its physical aspect (books) acting like a base for any library and defending the idea that we cannot build the future without foundations. Following this idea, the library became a dual building, combining a traditional book system with a digital, interactive and virtual library. We started to design a cubic element allowing a good integration into the regular and orthogonal urban fabric of the area. Its back faรงade, quite traditional and closed, refers to the historical part of the city. The two lateral faรงades are more dynamic with huge stairs attracting people to the main platform. Then the front faรงade, more open and transparent, puts the inside floating cube on a performance stage and creates a dialog with the other waterfront buildings. For the interior design of the building the idea was to take the traditional library concept with bookcase, workspaces and computer areas and to turn it into a central gravity point. This way, the remaining space is made available for library users and citizens passing by, and transforms the building into a real attractive element of the cityscape on both urban and cultural levels.

In 2013, the association of the young architects of Vicenza (VAGA) organised, as part of the event “Città dell’architettura”, a competition called “Re-generation”. The winning projects were rewarded with the opportunity to expose their work in the Palladian Basilica of Vicenza. The idea, together with the artist Roberto Mascella, started with the relation among 3 projects in which I was working on at that time: a new bar in Vicenza, an info-point in Modena and an antenna in the venetian lagoon. The character that linked the 3 projects was their “mirror identity” which allowed them to reflect on their own surfaces the elements of the surrounding landscape. Those reflections re-organised the image of the space around creating a mechanism of visual regeneration. The performance, realised with three black forms referring to the shapes of the projects selected, allowed the users to look at themself in a space re-created with mirrors by putting their own head inside the volumes. In this way the architectural space becomes an abstract experience, a place of potential thinking in which the physical presence is mute.

LOCATION: Marghera, Venice, Italy STATUS: Master thesis project TEAM: Enrico Oliviero DATE: October 2012-March 2013

After the industrial activity decreased in Marghera, the necessity to reorganise and reconnect the different parts of the city emerged. The project aims to regenerate the area located between the garden city and the harbour of Marghera. The city scale analysis focusing on three points (environment, mobility, and socioeconomy) enables to highlight the main issues and challenges of the area: - Reorganisation of the industrial harbour - Creation of three new ports (commercial/logistic/touristic) - Connection between the city of Marghera and Mestre - Creation of a “metropolitan green loop� - Enhancement of the public transport system All in all, the masterplan aims to re-think and regenerate the urban and social structure of Marghera, turning the future of the city into a sustainable prospect. Developed on a 3 km long urban fringe in the heart of Marghera, the project, thanks to its three flows (linear park, pedestrian/cycle route, PRT public transport), serves as a buffer in between the garden city and the harbour. At the same time its permeability aims to reinforce the connection between the eastern and western parts of the city and to create a link with Mestre over the train rails at north. The constructive system is based on a geometric module (48x24m) which demonstrates the structural and technical characteristics of the project, respecting the requests of flexibility and standardisation due to the vastness of the intervention.

SOLAIO "HOLEDECK" Questa tipologia di piastra permette la realizzazione di un impalcato cassettonato forato con il vantaggio del passaggio impiantistico nello spessore del solaio ed il recupero dei casseri.

ATTACCO SOLAIO-PILASTRO Le forze di taglio provocano il punzonamento del pilastro e sono massime in corrispondenza alle colonne, altri appoggi o carichi concentrati. Il problema viene risolto realizzando una piastra piena in c.a. con un'apposita armatura a taglio.

PILASTRO Realizzato in c.a. a sezione quadrata 40x40 cm verificato e armato come da calcolo.

CORPO DI DISTRIBUZIONE VERTICALE Le scale e gli ascensori verranno inseriti all'interno di una struttura in c.a. avente la funzione sia distributiva che di controventamento.

LOCATION: Valencia, Spain STATUS: Master project 1/2 - 2nd year DATE: October 2011-November 2011

The project is located in a working-class neighbourhood that was built around the Elcano fabric of Quart de Poblet (Valencia) in 1950. It consists in a refurbishment of a two-kids family house identified as a listed building, neither the main facade nor the roof declivity could be modified. The building regulations allowed to rebuild the ground floor 1.20m lower than the existing level to enable the house volume to expand and the design to explore different solutions.

NE PROSPETTICA

The project is located in Venice between the two building composing the University of Architecture. The programme responds to a lack of student accommodations through the design of a new co-housing facility. The scheme is based on three principles: - All the entrances are designed to encourage the people to walk through the building. The two promenades, at ground and first floor, are thought to be a public walkway creating an urban link that unify the academic complex. - The building is organised in two different parts and connected by the promenades. The southern block, facing the lagoon, includes the common areas (canteen, library), the theatre and the professor accommodation. The northern block, inspired by the Venetian patio, comprises the student accommodation with an open space in his heart. - The third principle resides in the flexibility of the structure chosen for this scheme. While the southern block structure is a bolted steel system to ensure the cantilever support, the northen block is characterized by a “sandwich structure�. The strategy of having two heavy steel decks, at first and fouth floor, and two light timber floor structures, at second and third floor, allow to disassemble and reorganise the floors minimizing the construction waste and improving the flexibility of the building.

S. MARTA SUBSTATION “A cargo ship ran aground on the dock of Santa Marta, as time goes by, it got rusty and it became slowly part of the landscape.� From this starting point, the image of the ship evolves in two corten volumes (the entrance of the substation and the vaporetto stop) sloping towards the central glass box (indoor atrium). The access to the station is through the northen corten block which includes the ticket office, a bar and the toilettes. This volume joins the large central space which enlightens the way down to the substation. The peculiarity of this project is that it suggests two itineraries to reach the platform. The first one allows a straight access to the subway level (depth : -20,70m) thanks to escalators and the other one consists in a promenade which leads the passengers through an art exhibition settled along a series of ramps descending to the subway level. The idea is to transform the route to the platform from an anonymous transit space to an interactive and dynamic place.
