RIPON — A new coach in a familiar atmosphere. That’s what Chris Musseman has brought to the Ripon High football program. In other words, the first-year Indians coach continues to conduct practices and the planning for the upcoming season much like his predecessor Chris Johnson, who stepped down shortly after last year’s successful 4-1 campaign in the Trans-Valley League, 6-2 overall. “We’ve had very productive summer,” said Musseman, who was a longtime assistant coach of the RHS program. “The kids have really dedicated themselves to improving all during the off-season.” The Indians are young with plenty of first-players but with an experience coaching staff. Included are Michael Merchant (offensive coordinator/quarterback), Ken Tyhurst (offensive line), Jake McCreath (tight end/

offensive line), Justin Johnston (running backs), Jake Rodriguez (wide receivers), Jorge Velasco (defensive coordinator/ outside linebackers), Gary Dias (outside linebackers), Glen White (defensive line), Robert Kissee (defensive backs) and Cole Williams (inside linebackers). It’s still too early to tell what’s ahead for Ripon. “Our goal is to have a good and winning season,” said senior wide receiver Aaron Paschini. At 5-11, 175 pounds, he’s one of a handful returning starters. The others are inside linebacker/fullback Bryce Kinsey (5-10, 185) and running back Luis Candido (6-0,

170). Other returners include running back Michael Winters (5-9, 160), linebacker Trent Hawes (5-8, 175), and lineman Jesus Torres (5-10, 265). Senior Andrew Durrer and sophomore Ryan Daggett are taking turns at quarterbacking the Indians familiar Wing-T offense. Durrer could also see action at tight end and middle linebacker in Ripon’s 3-3-5 defensive alignment. “I think we’ve really come together in such a short time,” Paschini said. He’s anxious for actual play to begin to show how much.
