WELCOME FROM THE EDITOR With the corporate hospitality sector reckoned to be worth as much as £1 billion annually in the UK alone, it’s clear that organising events forms part of most companies’ marketing spend. PAs are often tasked with planning such events and this booklet is intended to be a handy, at-a-glance guide to those suppliers and venues who can assist you in making sure everything runs smoothly. When you begin arranging corporate hospitality the first thing you should ask yourself is who the guests will be – do some research into their likes, tastes and preferences so that you can create that all-important ‘wow’ factor. There are lots of great sporting events out there, for instance, but if you invite clients who like tennis to a cricket match, then it will be hard to win them over however impressive the game. Nowadays, there is literally something for everyone – whether your guests are sporty (there’s an entire calendar of sporting fixtures to pick and choose from), have cultural interests, (think about organising something at a museum or the theatre)

like to think of themselves as foodies, (gastronomic-themed choices abound) or are into their outdoor pursuits (these can be arranged on both land and water – and even in the air for the truly adventurous). Then take a look at the budget available, as this will allow you to be realistic about the scale of the event and the number of guests you can invite. Remember: in this instance, bigger does not automatically equal better and working with a reputable event planner will help you maximise your resources. Next draw up a checklist of what needs to happen when and who is responsible for doing what, together with a schedule that has the various deadlines and milestones along the way clearly marked. It may sound simple, but time management skills will really come into their own here and it’s essential that you give yourself enough time to plan properly and don’t leave things until the last minute.
