GARNISH & GATHER “I always struggled with dinnertime—I was a busy working gal who wanted to eat local foods and cook at home, but I didn’t always know how,” says Atlanta native Emily Nethero Golub, who grew frustrated with CSAs and the obscure produce often found in their deliveries. “I really enjoyed the experience of exploring new fruits and veggies, but sometimes the amount of recipe planning, let alone grocery shopping and several jars of spices I’d only use once, got a little overwhelming.” Certain she wasn’t alone, Golub created Garnish & Gather, a gourmet recipe-kit meal service built from local, seasonal ingredients picked from nearby farms. It’s the perfect dinnertime solution for busy Atlantans who love to cook and care about where the food comes from, but simply don’t have time to plan their meals and grocery shop. There’s even an extensive local market section where you can stock up on pantry staples like eggs, bread, coffee, milk, and snacks. The “Be the Chef” series is another great feature—the trailblazing company teams up with restaurants around the city to create special recipe kits (think St. Cecilia’s famous octopus and Gunshow’s killer shrimp and grits). “At the end of the day, you’re supporting a local Atlanta business, a community of local farmers and food artisans, eating fresh and naturally grown produce, and feeling like a chef, all at the same time,” says Golub.
