one mann’s opinion
As usual, I have more to say than can fit on one page for my letter, that’s just the way we roll at Mann Publications; there are always so many new things happening. But, I will try my best to sum up the end of the year and our excitement going into the new year. As some of you already know, we are thrilled that Mann About Town is now increasing its publication frequency to 10 issues per year due to the incredible response we’ve had to the work we do. As you can see throughout the issue, we take a multigenerational approach to our content, making sure that there is a little something for people of all ages to enjoy.
I’m not sure how many of you know Miri Ben-Ari, our wonderful cover star for this issue, but she and I have had a close relationship for many years. I first met Miri about 20 years ago when I saw her play violin at a brunch at The Plaza Hotel. At the time, she was already know as one of the leading Israeli musicians in the hip-hop scene, and now I think it’s safe to say she’s expanded to be well-known throughout the world. At Mann About Town we go to great lengths to think of the most interesting categories to cover. Music is definitely a very popular category, and what Miri does is off the charts. I am honored to be able to call Miri a dear friend and to have her grace our cover and share her story.
The rest of the magazine covers many different categories with the best content out there for you to enjoy. An exciting observation I’ve made is that as we’ve continued to grow, almost all of our content has become exclusive and unique to us. We always aim to offer informative, exciting articles that keep you on the cutting edge of fashion, dining, wellness, real estate and more.
Looking ahead, with February being Black History Month, we have an exciting cover feature in store highlighting a black female artist. We are also researching and working hard on a number of other features for our February issue that highlight black-owned businesses in every category and truly exemplify our values of diversity and inclusion.
As of late, we have also been continuing our work with the Mann Charitable Foundation. We are currently in the process of planning a gathering honoring five women who have risen to the top of their respective fields and we consider to be true role models, not only in what they have achieved, but in their character, culture and philanthropic contributions to society.
In closing, I hope you had a great 2022, (it’s certainly been better than the previous two years!) and we at Mann About Town look forward to bringing you the best lifestyle content out there throughout 2023.

We’ve done hard things before, we do them all the time.
For most cancer patients, the usual options are surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation. So we’re working on ways to get the immune system to deploy billions of cancer-killing cells and help more patients survive.
When some people experienced mysterious COVID symptoms and had nowhere to go, our team created the first Center for Post-COVID Care.
It wasn’t that long ago we had to open up your whole chest for heart surgery. Now we’re pioneering a bypass that goes through a few tiny incisions. With this surgery, we can get you back on your feet in weeks instead of months.
So if anyone ever tells you there’s no other way—don’t listen.
it couldn’t be done. We didn’t listen.

MUSEUM OF JEWISH HERITAGE –
A LIVING MEMORIAL TO THE HOLOCAUST HONORS FOUNDERS AT ITS 25TH ANNIVERSARY GENERATION TO GENERATION BENEFIT
The Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust marked its 25th anniversary with an annual Generation to Generation benefit that raised more than $1 million and honored founders George Klein, Robert M. Morgenthau z’’l, Manfred Ohrenstein, Peter A. Cohen and Howard Rubenstein z”l.
The annual L’dor V’dor brought together 300 friends, family and generations of survivors to support the Museum’s timely mission to serve as a beacon for education about antisemitism and bigotry through lessons of the Holocaust.
“We are humbled to be in a room with generations of family. Tonight, we honor the Museum’s founders, but we also honor the survivors and their descendants,” said Jack Kliger, President and CEO of The Museum of Jewish Heritage. “The same way the Torah is physically passed down from grandparents,
to parents, to children at b’nai mitzvahs, we must pass down these responsibilities, and wisdom, along with spiritual knowledge and cultural traditions.”
“This living memorial, this beautiful building, is one of the great buildings of our city, is a memorial to those who did not survive, and a living educational institution inspired by those who did survive,” noted Museum Board Chair Bruce Ratner. “Survivors have been the heart and the soul of everything that we do. After 25 years we are thriving.”
During the event, which was broadcast virtually as well and emceed by political analysts John Avlon (Senior Political Analyst and Anchor at CNN) and Margaret Hoover (host of PBS’s The Firing Line), the Museum presented a video chronicling the early vision to create an institution within view of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, to the present day, where hundreds of thousands of visitors come to
remember, to learn, and to rededicate themselves to fight antisemitism in all of its forms.
“Twenty-five years ago, their task was to create New York’s contribution to the global responsibility to never forget and to memorialize the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust,” Hoover said. “For over two decades, the Museum has been doing this important work and that would not have been possible without its steadfast supporters.”
Her husband, Avlon, added, “We need to face the fact that we are living in a growing climate of antisemitism and Holocaust denial. That’s why the work of this museum is now needed more than ever... because – let’s be clear - standing up to anti-Semitism is everyone’s responsibility in a civil society.”
Leya Kaufman, the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, and event Co-Chair Deborah Zuckerman,

each eloquently spoke about not remaining silent in the face of antisemitism. Zuckerman said, “Antisemitism is not over. In the face of these new and continuing threats we cannot sit back. We must all take an active part in the story. So, I ask all of you how, in your everyday life, can you show resilience in the face of hate and take part in the responsibility to document the reality of what we are experiencing and pass it on for future generations to learn from?”
The recollections of each of the founders, or their family members, amplified the Museum’s messages of resilience, renewal and hope.
“If you wanted to pick the most perfect place to frame the American immigrant experience and even of the Holocaust survivors, what better place than right here with Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty,” said Peter A. Cohen.
George Klein added, “We created not only an exhibition but a living memorial. That was the whole purpose, a living memorial is a memorial that tells a story. We have to remember, because if we don’t remember, we will repeat it again.”
Manfred Ohrenstein, who was New York State’s Minority Leader at the time and represented the Battery Park City District, noted the significance of the institution’s name. “A living memorial is something that grows,” Ohrenstein said, “and it continues to grow, and it is still growing…It’s a hallmark, and that’s a great feeling.”
“For my dad, it was the top of the list. He really felt this was a life accomplishment for him that would endure beyond the work that he did for generations, and in partnership with amazing people with the other people on the commission” that created the Museum, said Steven Rubenstein, son of founder
Morgenthau’s son, Robert P. Morgenthau, said, “We are using the Jewish community as an example for all communities, and we are remembering the Holocaust as a way to make sure that people know that could happen to anybody, and anything we can do to make sure that it doesn’t happen going forward, that is part of our mission.”
Attendees also were treated to a performance by Met Opera Chorus Artists and Friends, Sean Clark and Daniel Hoy, accompanied by Jay Rattman. Event Co-Chairs for the event were Elyse & Howard Butnick, Evelyn & Harry Goldfeier, Rita Lerner & Cliff Salm, Ann Oster, Marilyn Rosen, and Deborah & Wayne Zuckerman. The 25th Annual Collaborating for a Cure Gala, one of New York City’s favorite charity events, celebrated its silver anniversary at Cipriani Wall Street. The “fun-raiser as opposed to fundraiser” as described by Michael Nierenberg raised more than $6 million towards the goal of funding the next five years of crucial SWCRF cancer research programs such as the Partnership for Aging and Cancer Research Program, the SWCRF Institute Without WallsTM and the Women’s Cancer Research Program.
Following a cocktail reception across the street, guests made their way to the main dining room where emcee, CBS’s Chris Wragge, welcomed the more than 700 guests, introduced the evening’s honorees and highlighted many of the Foundation’s groundbreaking achievements over the past 50 years. “Tonight, we have a great program to celebrate two giants in the fight against cancer,” said Wragge.
Upon receiving the Vision and Leadership Award, SWCRF Board Chairman Michael Nierenberg commented, “The real honorees are Dr. Waxman and the great heroes like him who treat and cure cancer every day.”
Founder and CEO Dr. Samuel Waxman, who received the well-deserved and long-overdue Lifetime Achievement Award, spoke to his vision (goal) for a future in which cancer does not have to be a disease associated with aging. “The incidence of cancer is increasing, in part, as a by-product of improvements we are making in human longevity,” said Dr. Waxman. “But through our collaborative research programs, we can flatten this curve. I am thrilled to be a part of many amazing breakthroughs that have occurred in cancer research –with more to come.”
Special guest, author and breast cancer survivor, Musa Mayer, shared why she has been a longtime supporter of SWCRF and very generously offered a $1 million match for all donations made during the gala. “I will be celebrating my 80th birthday soon thanks to the work of this foundation and Dr. Samuel Waxman,” said Mayer.
As in previous years, the Collaborating for a Cure Gala included a live auction during the night’s festivities, including a meet and greet with Mt. Joy, culinary experiences at the Cipriani Vault, il Buco Vita and New York Vintners and a Palm Bay Italian Winery experience (in Tuscany) to name a few. There was also a raffle for a private 7-day Bahamas cruise aboard an 82-foot, hybrid-powered, luxury yacht.
Notable attendees include SWCRF Board Chairman Michael Nierenberg, Founder and CEO Dr. Samuel Waxman, Gala Event Chairs, Spencer Waxman, Nicholas Santoro, Baron Silverstein, Marc Taub and Gala emcee Chris Wragge, Elin Nierenberg, Marion Waxman, Sandra Dugoff, Julie Waxman, Eliz Waxman, Jack Waxman, Sophia Bergan, Mario Pecoraro, Chris Arlotta, Mark D. The yacht also offers a wide array of watersports, including a 38-foot speedboat.
The yacht was delivered as Coral Island by Lürssen in 1994 and was one of the yard’s biggest projects at the time. Jon Bannenberg, often considered the godfather of modern yacht design, was responsible for the exterior profile. The yacht cruised privately for most of its life. It was then purchased as Coral Ocean by her owner, Ian Malouf, who embarked on a “no expense spared” refit.
Coral Ocean made her post-refit debut at the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix and is now available for Caribbean and Mediterranean charters with Elite Yacht Charters through eliteyacht.com or by emailing Kelley directly (kelley@eliteyacht.com).

A Boozeless Take on a Night Out
ABSENCE OF PROOF
BY PENELOPE HERRERA
For many people, having a good time is usually connected with alcohol. When people think of parties, festivities and social gatherings as a whole, they think “where is the alcohol?”
But sometimes people either don’t drink at all or don’t want to drink on a particular night, and that should not mean they have to miss out on fun if the focus of the event revolves around drinking. Elizabeth Gascoigne, founder of Absence of Proof, made it her mission to make sure that didn’t have to be the case. She decided to create a space that had all of the energy of a bar but none of the alcohol.
There usually seems to be some taboo surrounding not drinking at social events. People are often confused with your lack of participation in the ritual, and will pile on the questions: “You don’t drink? Why don’t you want a drink?” This then makes some of those who don’t want an alcoholic beverage feel as if they don’t fit in. Gascoigne said, “I stopped drinking in January of this year [2022] as alcohol wasn’t helping me be the best version of myself. Once I cut out alcohol, I realized that there weren’t many social activities in the evenings that didn’t revolve around drinking. I could go to a bar and have cranberry juice, but I felt left out of the ritual of drinking.” Gascoigne thus took it upon herself to be the change, creating the non-alcohol-
ic pop-up bar Absence of Proof—a boozeless take on a night out.
The launch of Absence of Proof took place in Kobrik Coffee Co. with a variety of non-alcoholic drink brands present and types of drinks available. The collaborative process with Absence of Proof and these brands consists of thinking of the best ways to showcase the uniqueness of each brand and which tastes of the potentially present brands would resonate with Absence of Proof’s audience. With each event, there are different brands so that guests could try a range of products in the non-alcoholic space. Games are also present throughout the events and question cards are scattered around the venue to encourage conversations with new friends. Everyone is welcome, with the purpose of Absence of Proof’s creation to be a place where everyone feels comfortable and encouraged to be themselves. If Absence of Proof could be represented in one word, Gascoigne hopes it would be “community.”
“I hope everyone leaves feeling like they made a new friend and have a safe community to be a part of. I hope they leave knowing that they don’t need alcohol to have an amazing night out,” Gascoigne shared.
So far, Gascoigne has found a great deal of success
with her events. She stated, “I started Absence of Proof because it sounded like a fun thing that I would attend but I had no idea it would resonate with so many people. The non-alcoholic and alcohol-free space is so amazing. I feel so lucky to have met and made so many new friends through Absence of Proof events.”
For Gascoigne, this includes the brands she works with. Absence of Proof continues to grow with Gascoigne having recently launched an ecommerce platform for Absence of Proof, so that everyone could order the ingredients for non-alcoholic cocktails and make them at home, even if they don’t live close enough to an Absence of Proof event to attend in person. Gascoigne would love to grow this ecommerce platform further, as well as expand to bigger and better events, starting with venues that help bring attention to other small businesses around the city of New York and other cities down the line. Ultimately, Gascoigne would like Absence of Proof to be a pioneer in what it means to have fun without alcohol.
In honor of Dry January, Absence of Proof will be having a residency every Friday for the month of January at a Speakeasy underneath one of Gascoigne’s favorite non-alcoholic bottle shops, Sèchey in the West Village. To find more Absence of Proof pop-up events, visit absenceofproof.com.

CASIO TO RELEASE “ADVENTURER’S STONE” G-SHOCK WATCHES TO COMMEMORATE 40TH ANNIVERSARY
Casio Computer Co., Ltd. Announced the release of the newest additions to its series of shock-resistant G-SHOCK watches designed to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the G-SHOCK brand and its never-ending pursuit of toughness. The six Adventurer’s Stone models are inspired by stones that adventurers have long used to navigate.
Since the launch of the very first G-SHOCK, the DW-5000C, the brand has continually evolved not only in shock resistance, but in functionality and exterior design, as well.
The 40th anniversary Adventurer’s Stone shock-resistant models are inspired by the stones known to adventurers as useful compasses since the Middle Ages. The G-SHOCK brand concept of continuous innovation inspires people to take on new challenges, and the design of this line is based on the value that these stones have always had to people seeking adventure.
The watches’ metal bezels are forged and textured to reproduce the rough feel of stone. The textured surface is also honed, while the top and sides are treated with hairline and mirror finishes, bringing out a crystalline beauty. Each inspired by a different type of stone, the bezel is treated with one of many different colorful ion platings to reproduce the look of that particular mineral and the unique way it shines depending on the light and cross section of the stone. Each model’s band is designed to complement the bezel.
As befits an anniversary model, the anniversary logo is engraved on the case back, there are four stars for 40 on the band loop, and the phrase “SINCE 1983” appears on the dial.

The Bowery’s New Mexican Restaurant
BY BRIAN AKER
42 MANN ABOUT TOWN • JANUARY 2023 ON THE TABLE
Photography by Daniel Larco
The elevation of Mexican cuisine has reached a pinnacle with IXTA, the new Bowery hotspot whose December grand opening drew New York City’s trendy set and foodies alike. The upscale restaurant, located at 299 Bowery, is the brainchild of industry veteran Mike Himani with business partners Marcelo Martins and Erol West, whose passion for creating enticing, innovative cuisine and delivering expert service make IXTA a destination for anyone with an appreciation for highly curated Mexican food. Its sleek bar pushes boundaries with a curated library of tequilas and mezcals for exploration, and an intriguing aphrodisiac drink with an edible scorpion.
Fresh Oaxacan Dishes IXTA occupies the space formerly held by Daniel Bould’s legendary DBGB Kitchen and Bar, which shuttered in 2017. Himani resurrected the IXTA name from his NOMAD restaurant of the midaughts and took over the sizable location with a soft opening in the fall that generated impressive buzz and critical success. A few tweaks to the menu later, the Mexican offerings focus on Oaxacan dishes that are fresh and mouthwatering with the aim to build new fans.
“There’s a huge influence in Mexican cuisine from different countries marrying native flavors with those arriving with the Conquistadors,” said Martins. “We wanted to draw upon all of those influences, yet with a modern flair.” Regarding the culinary specialties, Martins shared, “Chef Francisco Blanco, an alum of the famed French Laundry in Napa Valley, California created the innovative menu. We have a 32-ounce tomahawk steak that comes out on a wooden board with artisanal Mexican peppers that is a crowd favorite. It’s visually spectacular
and a treat to the palate. Our stunner, though, is a suckling pig that needs to be reserved 72 hours in advance. It’s a whole suckling pig stuffed with the works. We prepare it carefully in-house, resulting in crunchy skin on the outside, and it is very juicy on the inside. Before we take the suckling pig to the table, we walk it around the whole dining room—we do a lap with it. You should see how people react. Suddenly, everyone wants it, but it is very special to us and really does require the three-day advanced notice. It definitely plants the seed for the next visit.”
Cocktail Artistry: The Mixology Program
“Our mixology program is the creation of our beverage director, Jenny Castillo,” said Martins. “We could have opened up just another mescal bar with a couple of hundred different varieties, but we wanted to elevate that. And what she did was take the basic model of engineering a cocktail and transform that into an experience. Tequila and mezcal are the top spirits in the world right now; their consumption has taken over brown spirits. Our bar translated cocktail artistry and the unique selections we have into the concept that we envisioned from the beginning. And we are very confident with the results.”
The Scorpion
Now back to the scorpion. West said, “It’s pretty cool. This is an aphrodisiac scorpion that you do with a tequila shot. We haven’t even named the drink yet, but it’s pretty, and it’s catching on fast. People are coming in specifically to start with that drink because they’ve heard about it on social media. We educate the guests about how to consume it, and they get to enjoy the results.”
The Panna Cotta, Tres Leches, & The Amazing Donuts
Dessert is not to be skipped, no matter what rea-
son. Martins explained, “The panna cotta is by far the best one I’ve ever eaten. It comes with candy salt on top, so there’s a little bit of a crunch in the texture, while it is served in a margarita glass for a gorgeous presentation. And the tres leches is overthe-top! It’s a different type of design for tres leches, as usually the cake is prepared with the milk poured over it. Our chef actually puts icing over the top of the cake and places the milk in the base, which absorbs from the bottom up; it’s amazing. The doughnuts—I don’t even want to get started on the doughnuts! The doughnuts redefine what a doughnut should be.”
Ceviche Vegan: Vegetarian Options
Martins explained that the concept was underscored by the importance of making the service as strong as the menu. “We really wanted to bring back traditional hospitality; that’s something that we pride ourselves in. We brought in a strong team of people who aren’t part-time servers or bartenders, but really a team of professionals who do this for a living.”
“There are a lot of vegetarian options,” Martins said in closing. “As vegetarian dishes have increased in demand over the years, we are able to accommodate that with a wealth of flavors. There is the delicious Ceviche Vegan, which is a must, and our salads are anything but basic; they are rich in flavor and texture as well.”
“And then the next thing you know, there’s a pig coming through the dining room,” added Martins with a laugh.

GG Tokyo Evokes the Vibes of a Tokyo Izakaya with Specialty Cocktails & a Japanese-Inspired Menu
An unassuming entrance to the Park South Hotel reveals GG Tokyo, a hidden jewel box-sized izakaya. Named after Tokyo’s famed Golden Gai district, known for its lively vibe and patronage of musicians, artists, writers, academics and celebrities, GG Tokyo seeks to emulate the exciting environment adding an elevated twist with an emphasis on refined cocktails.
The interior design sets the stage for an immersive dining experience featuring a collection of custom curated and commissioned art, including Sakeseas designed by Detroit-based neon artist Kate Hush depicting a colorful neon mermaid that has become the restaurant’s unofficial logo marking the lounge area. There is also a mural by Alabama-born Artist Daniel Dugan composed of a single endless brush stroke weaving along the wall running the length of the dining room. The space is dimly lit, featuring low top tables, a six-seat sushi counter and bar seating. Accentuated by a carefully curated playlist and occasional live DJ performances, GG Tokyo features a fun, high-energy atmosphere.
The beverage program was designed by Beverage Director Ivan Papic, who has worked with restaurateur Keith McNally at Pastis and Balthazar, Macao Trading Company, the sister bar to Employees Only, and venturing into nightlife with Paul Sevigny at Beatrice Inn, and opening Paul’s Casablanca, in collaboration with Head Bartender Sasa Radovanovic, formerly of Schilling NYC and Paul’s Casablanca. Their vision for the program was to recreate classic cocktails with a Japanese twist. With a history dating to 1976, and founded in New York City by acclaimed restaurateur, Jean Denoyer, the name "La Goulue” evokes the treasured dining establishment that has charmed and delighted restaurant and culinary aficionados for nearly half a century.
In 2020, Denoyer ventured into opening a second location in Palm Beach, Florida, and ever since, La Goulue has been named one of the most desirable dining destinations in the Town of Palm Beach by a growing clientele of loyal patrons and publications alike.
Inspired by the spirited, "La Goulue," the star can-can dancer at the Moulin Rouge famously depicted by Toulouse-Lautrec, La Goulue Palm Beach, like its sister restaurant in New York City, serves meticulously prepared French cuisine in a chic and lively bistro setting.
La Goulue’s success can be attributed to a passionate, dedicated team that includes award-winning Executive Chef Gwenaël “Gwen” Le Pape, an innovative and versatile culinary talent who presides over the kitchen and skillfully creates signature classic dishes and palate-pleasing seasonal specialties.
Preparing meals at La Goulue Palm Beach is a bit déjà vu for Le Pape, who cooked up some of the same signature dishes at the original location back in the day when he was 21 years old and a new arrival to New York from France. Le Pape earned his first culinary recognition at age six for the lemon tarte he created, an unchanged recipe he has “taken everywhere,” and is served at La Goulue today.
A winner of the Food Network’s reality cooking series, “Chopped,” Le Pape has worn many hats and worked every job from culinary consultant, advisor and caterer to corporate chef, chef owner, private chef, sous chef, chef de partie, chef de cuisine, pastry chef, and Executive Chef at numerous restaurants including his current position at La Goulue Palm Beach.
Le Pape, who hails from a family of water millers, credits his passion for cooking to his mother, his grandmother who was among the Cordon Bleu’s first female chefs, and an uncle who was a pastry chef at Le Notre in Paris. Like a culinary mimic who can duplicate things “right off the bat,” Le Pape is largely self-taught. He is conversant in Italian, Latino, Middle Eastern and Asian cuisine, but says his heart is in classical French cooking. He feels right at home at La Goulue, where he has reign over the kitchen creating the classics and innovative dishes tailored to the seasons.
Le Pape loves living in the tropics and was very happy to drop anchor at La Goulue Palm Beach, which has fast become one of the island’s most popular dining destinations. There, Le Pape carries out Denoyer’s tradition of serving refined French cuisine in an elegant bistro setting and creating memorable dining experiences for the guests.
On hand to extend a warm welcome at the door is the affable and attentive General Manager, Mathieu Potelle, and other team members who put heart in all they do from gracious service, to creating thoughtfully curated wine and spirit lists, to serving beautifully crafted dishes that make for memorable dining experiences.

Extra Old
Old Forester Distilling Co. has released the latest edition in its coveted 117 Series: a double-barreled bourbon that stayed in the second barrel for an unusually long time.
The result is a bourbon of exceptional quality with pronounced sweet and spice notes. Old Forester took its beloved 1910 expression and aged it in a second barrel for 24 months. Master Taster Melissa Rift said the whiskey aptly earned its special name –Old Forester Extra Extra Old.
“This expression was born from a creative and innovative experiment while staying true to the classic taste which sets Old Forester apart,” Rift said. “Although I only joined Old Forester last month, this was one of the first new limited expressions I was honored to taste – and the extra long double barreling leads to an explosion of flavors.”
Old Forester 1910 is a coveted expression commemorating the October 22, 1910 distillery fire at 117 Main Street. A batch of mature whisky ready to be bottled was instead re-barreled in new barrels for removal due to the fire damage. What emerged was a full-bodied whisky, remarkable enough to become an entirely new expression – Old Fine Whisky.
For Extra Extra Old, the brand experimented by leaving the 1910 whisky in the heavily charred secondary barrel for two years.
Old Forester Extra Extra Old is bottled at 93 proof and will be released in very limited quantities for purchase today at the Old Forester Distillery and in our online store. It will also be available at select Kentucky retailers. Guests visiting the distillery on paid experiences between December 13 and December 23 had the opportunity to purchase a bottle, in accordance with the distillery’s special release policy.

Who is Miri Ben-Ari?
A friend, mother, violinist, producer and entrepreneur. I usually prefer when others describe me.
How do others describe you?
Professionally as a Grammy Award Winning violinist-producer, entrepreneur and now also a TED speaker.
Can you mention some of the artists you have collaborated with? Any favorites?
I worked with so many talented artists, to name a few: Jay-Z, Wyclef Jean, Alicia Keys, Twista, Kanye West, Wynton Marsalis, Britney Spears, Maroon 5, Akon, Patti Labelle, Akon, Donna Summer, Janet Jackson, John Legend, Aventura, Fetty Wap, Diamond Platnumz, Armin Van Buuren, Lil Wayne and Flo Rida. Honestly, I don’t think it is possible to choose a “favorite.”
You have received many awards. Which ones mean the most to you? All of them and, especially “Apollo Legend,” because this is how my Hip Hop violin career started, “The Grammy Award” because it made the impossible possible. The “Martin Luther King Award” from Israeli
President Shimon Peres was a defining moment and the beginning of my unique partnership with Bishop Glenn Plummer. “Remarkable Woman” by First Lady Michelle Obama was another defining moment of performing at the White House, and the “Ellis Island Medal of Honor” by Neco which meant a lot being an immigrant who moved to NY chasing a dream.
Your website reads “music disrupter” why?
I am considered as a “music pioneer” and the first to do many things. I made the impossible possible with a violin, turning it into a featured instrument in commercial music in different musical genres: Hip Hop, Latin, Afrobeats and EDM.
As a music pioneer, how did you change violin music?
I changed the conversation around the violin: instead of being considered as background music, it became a featured artist in commercial music.
How does a girl from Israel get to win a Grammy?
By thinking outside the box, focusing on a vision and paying attention to everything in between. I was not afraid to dare do something new.
You are the only violinist to win a Grammy in the Hip Hop category, can you share what that experience is like?
I won a Grammy and a few Grammy certificates. The Grammy was for the song “Jesus Walks.” I did lots of work on Kanye West’s first album, “The College Dropout” and the album “Graduation.” It was a very happy moment in my career.
What songs do people know you from?
I would say mostly: “Overnight Celebrity,” “Sunshine to the Rain,” “Jesus Walks,” “The New Workout Plan,” “Symphony of Brotherhood Rise,” “Miss Melody,” “Live it Up,” “Baila,” “Jose” and “Intense.” My Spotify account streams many of my violin songs. There are great songs I am on, and people do not realize it is me.
Can you name an example? “Fallin’” by Alicia Keys.
I noticed that Twista’s “Overnight Celebrity” is not featuring your name, although you were musically featured. Can you explain?
Evolution does not happen “overnight.” It was my first music video, and everyone knew it was me on this song, but the title did not include both Kanye and me.
Can you share some highlights of your music career?
My first performance at the Apollo, which started my Hip Hop career and honored me with “Apollo Legend,” jamming with Jay-Z at Summer Jam, receiving the “Remarkable Woman” award from First Lady Michelle Obama, introducing “The Hip Hop Violinist” to the scene, creating “Intense” with Armin Van Buuren, “Jose” with Aventura and “Symphony of Brotherhood Rise” with Flo Rida while featuring. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
What does a Miri Ben-Ari show sound like?
Whatever I do, I thrive on giving a quality entertainment experience. My live show has multimedia and it’s full of energy. The shows are different and according to the venue: from ticketed shows to a nonprofit gala, fundraising, private or corporate events. I could play the National Anthem with the NBA and perform at halftime with its dance team.
Tell me about “The Hip Hop Violinist?”
It was very challenging initially because my music project concept did not exist before my time, and there was no reference point. Jay-Z and Wyclef Jean gave me the title “The Hip Hop Violinist,” which became my brand and my self-titled album on Universal. It opened the door to introducing a new style: a fusion between the classical and the non-classical worlds in commercial music. My violin album featured artists like John Legend, Kanye West, Anthony Hamilton, Fabulous and Lil Wayne. After that, it became easier, and many musicians followed in my footsteps.
Being third generation to grandparents who survived the Holocaust: how did it impact your life and career?
It is a part of who I am. When I was 12 years old my grandparents broke their silence and shared their story with me. As horrified as I was, it gave me a “purpose” of the value to “never forget” their stories, and the Holocaust.
Tell me about your TED Talk experience?
It was a COVID project; I felt that I had ideas worth sharing and managed to do two TED Talks: “How to Make the Violin Cool” and “4 Ways to Strive with Harmony.”
Why did you choose these TED Talk topics?
Both are my life stories and lessons. “How to Make the Violin Cool” teaches how to think outside the box to succeed in life and in business. “4 Ways to Strive with Harmony” is all about healing our divided society

with music.
Does being a TED speaker change who you are?
It connected me with who I am; it helped me to better understand my essence and contribution by sharing my story.
Did you get to deliver TED Talks outside of the TED platform?
Yes, I have. I speak to fortune 500 companies to help them think outside the box and to get creative and inspired in business.
How do you feel about the recent rise of antisemitism?
It is very unfortunate; it is dividing the communities and creating unhealthy conversations.
What’s the “Miri Ben-Ari sound?”
People always tell me they can recognize my violin playing on songs, and I think it might be a combination of sonic and my soul.
Tell me about your recent collaboration with Diamond Platnumz. We created the first Afrobeat song to feature violin, “Baila.” I love Afrobeats and loved working with Diamond. I hope to travel to Tanzania soon.
You released “Symphony of Brotherhood Rise” featuring Dr. King and Flo Rida; how did this song come about?
It was an organic music production that
started with the instrumental of “Symphony of Brotherhood.” Erik E. Smooth Hicks created a gospel choir, and Flo Rida created his classic verse. Honestly, I didn’t expect Flo Rida to perform on a song like this, but then I got to know him, and it all made sense. We are a unique music combination; together, we are “a symphony of brotherhood” carrying Dr. King’s message.
Could you tell me about your entrepreneurial world?
I am from Israel, a startup nation, and I love technology. During COVID, my partners and I founded a technology company Meta-Sured, providing cyber solutions and products to Web 3 blockchain-related technology.
Should we expect another TED talk about this new venture?
Probably.
How did motherhood affect your career and music?
Being a mother changed everything. It is an experience that you cannot put into words. It taught me a lot about love.
What’s coming up for you?
I look forward to sharing many exciting projects soon, focusing on music, film and technology. Follow me on miribenari.com and visit @miribenari for more!

USA Pickleball, the National Governing Body for the sport of pickleball, hosted the 2022 Margaritaville USA Pickleball National Championships at Indian Wells Tennis Garden (IWTG) this November. The Championship Court at Indian Wells Tennis Garden hosted 5,522 fans at the peak of Championship Sunday, the largest-ever pickleball attendance.
This year’s event welcomed 2,291 players in total, including professional, senior professional and amateur players. The overall pro prize purse con-
sisted of $150,000, one of the largest in the sport. The tournament also featured 4,158 total matches, 102 USA Pickleball-certified referees, 303 volunteers and 176 brackets – 60 singles brackets and 116 doubles brackets – which resulted in 3,455 hours of competition.
The USA Pickleball National Championships will return to Indian Wells Tennis Garden in 2023.
“We were thrilled to welcome the best players in our sport to the world-class Indian Wells Tennis Garden for an exceptional event,” said USA Pickleball Chief Executive Officer Stu Upson. “Over the nine days of competition, a record crowd descended upon a pickleball paradise and witnessed some of the most exciting competition that pickleball has to offer.”
Anna Leigh Waters, 15, captured the second triple crown in her career at this year’s National Championships, winning gold in the Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles competitions. Waters, who also earned that distinction in 2019, and top-ranked men’s player Ben Johns dominated the medal count on the professional side of competition, with Johns taking home gold in Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles, as well as silver in Mixed Doubles. A new doubles event was also introduced to the National Championship competition roster this year: Mixed Pro Split/Age, with Anna Bright and Dave Weinbach claiming the first-ever title in this bracket. Additionally, this year’s competition marked the first National Championships in which every match was officiated by a USA Pickleball certified referee.
The amateur competition welcomed players ranging from eight to 85 years old, with athletes descending upon Indian Wells from 48 states.
“This has been an incredible year of growth for pickleball, and the 2022 National Championships were a true reflection of that as we continue to expand and enhance the tournament,” Upson said. “I’d like to thank our fellow event organizers at Desert Champions, our amazing team at USA Pickleball and our corporate partners for staging the premier tournament in the pickleball community – we are already eagerly looking forward to next year.”
The Class of 2022 for the Pickleball Hall of Fame was honored on Nov. 12 at Championship Court following the Hall of Fame Induction Banquet and Dinner on Nov. 10. The inductees included Norm Davis, Pat Kane, Larry Moon and Wesley Gabrielsen.
The event featured Live @ Nationals with expansive coverage on ESPN+, For The Fans, Roku, Selkirk TV and YouTube, and over 80 total hours of live action from three courts. The 2022 Margaritaville USA Pickleball National Championships also featured an incredible lineup of more than 20 corporate partners and exhibitors, including Margaritaville, Pickleball Central, Selkirk, Paddletek, FILA Pickleball, Franklin Sports, Joola Pickleball, Rockin’ Protein, Consumer Cellular, Day One CBD, Takeya, the City of Indian Wells, ProXR Pickleball, Shefit, Fruit Smash, Superior Labs, and Holbrook Pickleball.

Hyperice Partners with Centr to Offer Chris Hemsworth-Led Meditations to Further Expand Mental Wellness Content
Hyperice, a global high-performance wellness brand, announced a new partnership with Centr, a holistic wellness app founded by Chris Hemsworth, to deliver guided meditation content led by the award-winning actor within the Core App. The addition of Hemsworth content comes on the heels of Hyperice announcing Naomi Osaka-led content that was developed by global workplace mental health platform, Modern Health.
“We’re proud to partner with Hyperice because like Centr it’s helping make mindfulness practices such as meditation more ingrained in the health and fitness industry,” said Andrew Sugerman, CEO of Centr. “While many people understand meditation is beneficial, this partnership expands the reach of the guided meditations led by our founder Chris Hemsworth, making the practice accessible to an even wider audience.”
Founded in 2019 by Chris Hemsworth, Centr provides users with a multi-pronged and customized approach to a personal journey in wellness that focuses on diverse exercise and training content, meal planning and prep, and mindfulness exercises. The content is led by world-class experts across multiple disciplines and subjects, including Hemsworth himself.
A University of Pennsylvania study shows that meditation techniques can begin to reverse memory loss and reduce anxiety, two indicators of individuals suffering from early cognitive decline1.
Hemsworth recently announced a hiatus from acting after discovering that he is genetically predisposed to developing Alzheimer’s Disease. Hemsworth’s genetic makeup includes two copies of the APOE4 gene, which increases his risk of cognitive diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
In the “Learn to Meditate” series, users will be led through meditation sessions alongside Hemsworth, as he walks through how to build up ability and understanding, with a new style of beginner meditation.
The meditations are designed to deal with different situations by integrating practical tools. The meditations will tackle topics centered around stress release, sleep visualization, breathing, focus, motivation and more.
Additionally, a meditation series for children will be available via the Core app. In this series, Hemsworth leads meditations that will focus on sleep and positive thinking, aimed at children ages 4-9. Benefits to children practicing meditation can include an improved ability to control emotions, a reduction in stress and anxiety, improved focus, a boost in both physical and mental state and improved self-awareness.
“Mediation has always been an integral part of my daily life, which is reflected in all my work with Centr. The more I practice, the more it becomes second nature, the most integral and joyful part of my day,” says Tahl Rinsky, Centr yoga and mindfulness expert. “Centr is a great place to start and maintain your journey with meditation. Guided by Chris’s life, all my classes for Centr include a strong element of meditation.”
“The addition of Centr and Chris Hemsworth-led content in the Core App is another step towards offering users a unique experience to fuel their personal meditation and mental wellness journey,” said Jim Huether, CEO of Hyperice. “By adding content from Naomi Osaka, and now Chris, two extremely influential people that have been outspoken on the importance of mental wellness, we are continuing to help push the conversation forward and de-stigmatize the topic at large. Mental wellness and mindfulness can be a part of everyone’s holistic wellness routine, and we continue on our grand mis-
sion to help make these meaningful practices commonplace.”
Grounded in science and driven by data, Core by Hyperice is designed to help people find calm, and improve focus and inner strength. Unlike other meditation apps, Core is both an app and a handheld meditation device designed to track heart rate and stress levels.
Powered by the Core App, the purposefully designed Core Meditation Trainer uses biometrics to encourage breath control and focus for those navigating meditation techniques. Users can enhance their meditation practice from home or the office and track progress within the Core App. Core is experiencing explosive growth and strong user satisfaction.
Key highlights include:
• Adding 500+ new users a month
• Core users are highly engaged and build lasting habits - meditating 9+ times a month
• Core users stick around - over half are retained after week 5
• Core users love it - 4.9-star review on the App Store
The Core Premium app content ($69.99/ year) includes thousands of guided meditations, breath training, soundscapes and athlete content which are updated daily. All content can currently be accessed through a Core Premium subscription which users can try for two weeks free on either iPhone or Android.
Core is now available in-store at all Target locations throughout the U.S. and available online at Best Buy, Bloomingdale’s and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

While there are few greater luxuries in life than authentic champagne, that is far from all that Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa has to offer. Royal Champagne offers its guests a truly luxurious escape of the highest level. Located just 45 minutes outside of Paris, the 5-star hotel and spa is what relaxing getaway dreams are made of. Tucked into the quiet French countryside, a winter escape to Royal Champagne provides views of frost-covered vines, cool, crisp air and a peaceful respite after the hustle and bustle the holiday season brings.
Royal Champagne is the Champagne region’s first-ever luxury wellness destination, with a stunning 16,000 square foot spa overlooking the UNESCO-protected vineyards. In partnership with Biologique Recherche, the spa includes nine treatment cabins, two swimming pools (indoor and outdoor), a steam room, a sauna, jacuzzis, a yoga studio, a fitness room and a beauty bar.
While tending to the health and wellness of its guests is a key part of the Royal Champagne experience, spending your day at the spa is not the only way to make the most of your stay. Guests also have the option to sample over 800 wines including local small-batch wine growers; dine at the Michelin-starred Le Royal restaurant; take an e-bike to the village of Hautvillers, Dom Perignon’s resting place and much more. The property has a rich and fascinating history, including ties to Napoleon, boasting
its original 19th-century Post House and sophisticated interiors that combine classic designs linked to French history and local heritage. Guests can explore local private champagne labels with their own personal “Champagne Chauffeur,” who works in tandem with the property’s concierge to arrange private cellar visits due to exclusive relationships and open the doors to Champagne houses not open to the public and create a bespoke itinerary to top houses and sightseeing spots.
Feeling hungry? Set beneath a thousand crystal pendants that shimmer in the sun, Le Bellevue Restaurant & Terrace serves guests breakfast, lunch and dinner. Ingredients from locals and friends in the region result in an ever-changing menu full of rich stories and intense flavors. Fancy a drink? Abysse Bar & Terrace serves drinks and food to mingle over from noon to 11:30 p.m.
If you’re looking for an elegant evening, look no further than Michelin-starred restaurant Le Royal Etape Gastronomique, located in the Royal Ballroom. On the menu you will find locally grown vegetables and herbs harvested within Royal Champagne’s grounds making your dinner experience contemporary and exciting. Each season they offer brand new creations for guests to enjoy. Under the golden patinated ceiling, the Royal Ballroom pays historical tribute to the women who played a role in Napoleon’s life. Elegant attire is required to dine at the restau-
rant, and they welcome guests 5 years of age and older. For families with younger children, a babysitting service is available upon request. While Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa is pet friendly, animals are also not allowed in the restaurant.
Guests also have a special opportunity this winter to book Royal Tea Time on Saturdays and Sundays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Salon Fines Bulles. Guests will enjoy a gourmet moment served by the fireplace with a selection of savory bites and pastries on the menu from Chef Claire Santos Lopes and travel cakes accompanied by a hot drink.
Whether your day was spent relaxing in the spa, lounging by the pool, touring champagne houses or taking a bike ride through the countryside, Royal Champagne guests can end their day by unwinding in their luxurious guest rooms on their private terrace. They can even receive world-renowned bubbly delivered straight to their door with the hotel’s in-room “Champagne Please” button located on the guest room phones. Guests looking to improve their sleep quality can also check out Royal Champagne’s “Royal Sleep Experience” in partnership with French beauty brand AIME, that bridges the worlds of sleep and holistic beauty with in-room sleep essentials, a dedicated menu at the restaurant and more.

Naviva
With just 15 luxury tents surrounded by 48 forested acres (19 hectares) on the edge of a private peninsula, Naviva is an adult-only sanctuary that harnesses nature to create an environment that fosters community, personal growth and appreciation for local heritage. Naviva awakens the intrinsic bond that humans have with nature through biophilic design – an architectural approach that immerses people in their natural surroundings. The transformative journey begins as soon as guests arrive, meeting their personal guide on a cocoon-inspired bamboo bridge overlooking a dramatic forest ravine.
“Naviva builds on the success of our more than 20 years in Punta Mita, reinforcing everything that our guests love about this idyllic destination while offering an entirely new experience,” said Rainer Stampfer, Four Seasons president, Global Operations,
Hotels and Resorts. “This exceptional project is a testament to our dedication to innovating the guest experience and creating unique concepts within our portfolio that meet guest needs in meaningful, personalized ways.”
“We welcome guests to Naviva as if they are friends joining us at our own home, while giving them the space and flexibility for their own self-discovery and adventure,” said Ronny Fernández, resort manager, Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort. “Together with my team, we’re honored to unveil this one-of-a-kind experience to the world, showcasing the wonders of Mexico – from embarking on a shamanic sound journey to finding a new level of focus while spearfishing – in a distinctly Four Seasons way.”
Fernández continued, “The joy of my role is being able to personally guide guests through these experiences and help them connect more deeply with the wonders around them.”
Biophilic Design: Living in Nature
Through the lens of biophilic design and biomimicry – in which the natural world is the driving influence for design solutions – the natural beauty of Mexico was the key source of inspiration when Naviva was conceptualized with Luxury Frontiers, an award-winning design firm and pioneer in the alternative lodging sector. All building forms, interior designs and guest experiences tie back to a natural phenomenon, creating a resort concept that is fully derived from nature.
Naviva blurs the border between the natural and manmade worlds with 15 luxury tents that are designed to be at one with the surrounding jungle. Spacious indoor and outdoor areas invite the verdant sights and sounds of Riviera Nayarit’s unique flora and fauna. An open-air living room and separate bedroom flow to a private plunge pool and expansive outdoor living area, where a hammock, firepit and outdoor shower offer forest-framed refuge. Inside,

textures and fabrics reflect natural patterns found in the environment. Oversized bathrooms host deep soaking tubs and skylit showers that reveal uninterrupted visual connections to the outdoors.
The team collaborated with Mexican artists, craftspeople and manufacturers throughout the design and construction process, not only to support local businesses but also to create spaces with an authentic connection to Mexico’s culture. Highlights include custom furniture from Taracea and Baufaktory; artwork from Emma Boomkamp; reclaimed wooden games from Rasttro and textiles from Anora Casa.
Life at Naviva: Daily, Signature and Unscripted Experiences
Naviva’s untamed natural setting organically sets the stage for individual transformation through Daily, Signature and Unscripted Naviva experiences that are each rooted in one or more biophilic design principles.
Daily Naviva experiences focus on movement, gastronomy and cultural insight. Guests may embark on a nature hike to the Aztatlán ruins, savor the ocean’s natural bounty during a “seacuterie” tasting or learn about Aztec culture at a Metztli mythology session.
Signature Naviva experiences bring heritage, tradition and local expertise to the forefront while rooting guests in the natural environment. Guests may challenge their mind and body in the House of Heat, a temazcal designed specifically for Naviva; catch fresh snapper along the Resort’s rocky shoreline; or visit a local artist at their private home and studio.
Contributing to the biophilic principle of mystery as a sensory experience, Unscripted Naviva moments occur spontaneously and may include a surprise picnic in the jungle or exploring little known, small batch Mexican wines.
Nurturing the Mind, Body and Soul Naviva features a series of intimate wellness spaces including two spa pods tucked away in the forest, a House of Heat temazcal, a cliffside terrace, an open-air gym and nature trails. Each area promotes human connection to nature by grounding guests in tangible and intangible aspects of the environment. Guests are welcomed directly into their private spa pod to fully use the space how they wish. Inspired by
the seed of the local Ceiba tree, each cocoon-like spa structure offers a sense of safety that invites shifts in internal energy. Between transformative spa rituals, guests can spend time in each spa pod’s personal garden, outdoor shower or timber soaking tub.
The House of Heat invites guests on a personalized temazcal journey guided by a dedicated curandero to produce a mind-body awakening. Guests can choose from several focus areas, such as gratitude or devotion, to drive their customized experience. The House of Heat includes a ceremonial fi re pit with seating inspired by traditional Mayan stools, a preand post-ceremony gathering space and an outdoor shower area.
Naviva guests will also discover wellbeing experiences rooted in the environment at Risco Terrace, where yoga practices include powerful vinyasas and restorative flows, and the outdoor Mar Gym overlooking the Pacific, where strength training workouts incorporate existing formations such as boulders and trees. Guests can fi nd rest and rejuvenation at the Resort’s Selva Pool nestled in the jungle or at La Solana Beach, a private 575-foot (175-meter) expanse of Pacific beachfront.
Culinary Experiences with a Sense of Place Central to the resort’s fluid and informal style, every Naviva stay includes all meals, snacks and beverages – including many premium wines and spirits – whenever a guest may wish. Guests can choose to enjoy fresh seafood at Copal Cocina, graze on light bites inspired by local harvest at Selva Pool or enjoy a personalized menu on the deck of their private luxury tent. Exciting dining experiences abound, from impromptu molcajete lessons to chef-prepared dinners in the forest. In-tent dining is also available around the clock.
At the heart of Naviva, Copal Cocina welcomes guests to an open-air kitchen and living room where they may meet a local coffee roaster, pop a bottle of Mexican wine with a sommelier or join Chef Sofia Barrera behind the open-fi re grill. With no more than 30 guests at any given time, Copal Cocina offers unique dining experiences that integrate uncommon ingredients and flexible daily offerings that can be adjusted to each guest’s preferences. Local purveyors – including farmers and fi shermen – periodically visit the kitchen, allowing guests to develop a deeper connection to the local community.
Honoring Nature Through Sustainability Naviva’s authentic connection to nature is rooted in its thoughtful conception, which began with the rehabilitation of the land on which it now resides. The development team
carefully surveyed the land to build around existing trees and preserve the peninsula’s lush vegetation, hand-placing tents into the existing environment to minimize disruption to the surrounding forest. Select trees were relocated or salvaged for handcarved timber hooks placed in each luxury tent, and natural stone found onsite was repurposed for benches. The team also took significant measures to protect animal life by creating new paths that mimic the colors of soil and rocks and using specific lighting types to limit light pollution.
Throughout the property, the design team utilized light-on-earth, low-impact construction materials such as reclaimed wood, local stone, copper, bamboo and concrete. In addition, natural ventilation made possible by the region’s prevailing winds limits air conditioning to only the most essential spaces.
As an advocate for sustainable water sourcing, Naviva partnered with Source Water to bottle all drinking water onsite using hydropanel technology that extracts clean, pollutant-free water from the air.
A Retreat Close to Home
Naviva’s location creates the feeling of being disconnected in a faraway destination, when in reality it is only a short fl ight away from the US and Canada to Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) and then just 45 minutes’ drive to the private peninsula of Punta Mita.
All-encompassing Naviva stays start at USD 3,950 per night and include all meals, snacks and drinks including specialty meals prepared to enjoy throughout the property, one 60-minute spa treatment per guest, daily practices and rituals and Unscripted Naviva experiences. Signature Naviva experiences, rare or custom-ordered beverages, additional spa treatments, private classes or training and airport transfers are available for an additional cost.
Naviva guests also enjoy full access to the adjacent Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, located five minutes away. The Resort features ten restaurants and bars, two golf courses, three pools, two beaches and additional spa and fitness facilities.

CLOSINGS COMMENCE AT 212 WEST 72nd STREET ON NEW YORK’S UPPER WEST SIDE
Famed Curved Building Completes Conversion into Condominium Residences Designed by CetraRuddy
Centurion Property Investors has announced that the new luxury condominium residences at 212 West 72nd Street, the Upper West Side’s signature curved glass building, have commenced first closings. Situated on one of the neighborhood’s most historic and vital corners, the building is a last-of-its-kind condo conversion project for New York City.
The top-to-bottom renovation led by award-winning architecture firm CetraRuddy saw many of the former 196 rental apartments combined to create 108 spacious one- to five-bedroom private residences. Additionally, several new imaginative indoor-outdoor amenities have been introduced, such as the landscaped roof terrace and outdoor fitness space. 212 West 72nd Street’s transformation into a condominium is now complete, and the first of the finished spaces, including an entirely redesigned lobby, new amenities and several model residences, are now available for viewing and tours. Pricing for remaining inventory ranges
from $1.299 million to $19.15 million.
“The new 212 West 72nd Street is one of few condominiums in the immediate area to offer concierge services, a full suite of amenities, lightfilled modern interiors, home layouts affording an array of sizes, top-of-the-line finishes and striking views of neighboring prewar facades,” said John Tashjian. “We realized the incredible potential of this building and its location at the intersection of Broadway and 72nd Street, and we have been blown away by how well it has resonated in the community.”
According to Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group, the exclusive marketing and sales agent at 212 West 72nd Street, sales have been strong with tremendous interest from current Upper West Side residents looking to upgrade, as well as people from all over the city, the Tri-state area and beyond who are drawn to this exceptionally convenient Manhattan location. It is notable that several former renters have returned to the building as buyers, eager to experience the same city
energy with an all-new, and entirely upgraded look and feel.
“Purchasers at 212 West 72nd Street are coming from all over the world, but it’s been interesting to see just how many of them -- at one time or another -- have lived in this building before and have enjoyed its enviable location,” said AnneMarie Alexander, the condominium’s director of sales. “Past renters and their loved ones feel emotionally connected to the building and the memories they’ve made here, and we’re still seeing new sales inquiries from them today. We have retained the same staff and doormen from when the building first opened in 2010, so that will add another exciting and somewhat nostalgic layer to some of these first move-ins.”
Prospective buyers and brokers interested in experiencing the proven allure of 212 West 72nd Street can now tour new model residences staged by Interior Marketing Group on the higher floors of the building. The homes showcase many of the unique layouts offered at the condominium, which

range in size from a 714-square-foot one bedroom to a 3,070-square-foot four bedroom. Some select listings also boast large terraces with cinematic Upper West Side vistas. A prime example of available homes with unrivaled private outdoor space are the property’s two marquee penthouse residences, Penthouses North and Penthouse South. Priced at $19.15 million and $13.5 million respectively, these mansions in the sky feature sprawling private rooftop lounges with unique amenities like hot tubs, pizza ovens as well as outdoor movie theaters, kitchens and showers. Residence 16G, a gracious four-bedroom listing, offers another look at what it would look like to reside at 212 West 72nd Street. Minimalist furniture pieces were chosen to flaunt the immense space that comes with the home. Full windows surround the living areas with stellar views of the Upper West Side skyline and Central Park and shroud the room with light.
One of the most highly anticipated components of the building’s transformation into 212 West 72nd Street is the inclusion of high-design indoor and outdoor common spaces. Residents will now
arrive home to an elegant, double-height lobby featuring walnut paneling, custom-finished walls and archways, terrazzo flooring and a full-time concierge. They can also enjoy the building’s third floor amenity level offering an all-new residents’ lounge, complete with seating areas and a landscaped outdoor terrace. Adjacent to the lounge is the children’s playroom, a light-filled space that has reading nooks and colorful banquettes used for play, arts and crafts, reading or homework. There is also a state-of-the-art, windowed fitness center curated by The Wright Fit with stationary bikes, treadmills and strength-training equipment. The space features stunning wood paneling on the ceiling and oversized windows overlooking the landscaped outdoor fitness area, which can be used for yoga, meditation and private training sessions.
An impressive landscaped private roof deck crowns the prominent corner of the 20-story building. As residents move in, they can enjoy a sundeck with lounges, private entertaining spaces and barbecues and look forward to using a cozy gas fireplace as the weather gets colder, all with the backdrop of a
sweeping panorama of the Upper West Side that includes Central Park. Additional amenities and services include a full-time doorman, a live-in resident manager, cold storage, bicycle storage and private residents storage.
Nestled between Central and Riverside Parks and overlooking the treetops of Verdi Square, 212 West 72nd Street is located in the heart of the Upper West Side, a historic and cultured neighborhood beloved for its green spaces, fine dining, luxury shopping, gourmet local grocers, venerated museums and world-renowned performing arts. The building itself is home to a Trader Joe’s as well as a Duane Reade, and is just steps from the 72nd Street subway station, providing easy and convenient access to the rest of the city. 212 West 72nd Street represents a rare foray into modern architecture for this classic New York neighborhood, and its completion has set a new standard for ideal, contemporary living on the Upper West Side. The Season in Palm Beach County Kicks Off with the World Premiere of New Works By
Mira Lehr
Portrait by Nick Garcia Art by Mira Lehr
The new season of art kicks off in Palm Beach County with Mira Lehr: Arc of Nature. The show features bold and colorful works by Mira Lehr that have never been exhibited before, spanning 2,000 square feet, the entire front gallery space of Rosenbaum Contemporary (on view November 15, 2022 through January 14, 2023).
These paintings by Lehr can be seen during the peak months of the season, including the week of Art Basel Miami Beach. Lehr’s paintings continue to be acquired by leading museums, institutions and collectors ‒ including three works acquired this year by The Metropolitan Museum of Art New York.
The momentum of Lehr’s trajectory continues to soar, and this year during Miami Art Week and Art Basel Miami Beach, Mira Lehr has been selected for three concurrent exhibitions – in addition to this solo show at Rosenbaum Contemporary, her work has also been selected for a major exhibition at the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU in South Beach titled Environmental Art: Fragile Beauty (on view Nov. 27, 2022 - April 1, 2023), and for The Miami Creative Movement show at the Center for Visual Communication in Wynwood (on view Nov. 19, 2022 - March 15, 2023).
“These new works by Mira Lehr are characterized by an overarching sense of experimentation,” said Howard Rosenbaum, the Director of Rosenbaum Contemporary.
“These paintings are inspired by tropical climates, and new techniques are resplendent here with patterned gunpowder and stark white paint drips. Lehr is always honing in on the main tenets of her work: optimism vs. pessimism with regards to climate change, and the battle of
nature vs. man-made. Lehr’s new works invoke a sense of wonder for our disappearing natural world,” added Rosenbaum.
“Both creation and destruction are forces of nature,” commented Mira Lehr. “In my artmaking, I use burning, the medium of fire, by incorporating lit fuses and igniting gunpowder across my canvases. We seem to be living through a very tenuous cycle now in our history on this planet. Nobody knows what the future holds. The flames I use in my art, the fire, is the perfect medium for this time we live in,” added Lehr.
Rosenbaum Contemporary was founded by Marvin and Howard Rosenbaum in 1979, who have since been joined by Lara Rosenbaum. The gallery features Postwar, Modern and Contemporary masters presented through a nationally recognized museum-level exhibition program. Rosenbaum Contemporary is located at 150 Yamato Road in Boca Raton (the exhibition is viewable during gallery hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.)
In this exhibition Mira Lehr: Arc of Nature, her new works abound with cyclical imagery as the artist continues to sound her clarion call to protect the planet from climate change. Through her vibrant usage of colors and inventive media, she depicts the power of nature and the Earth in both utopian and dystopian portrayals.
The title of this new show at Rosenbaum Contemporary gallery comes from the new 420page book by the same name, published by Skira Editore – Mira Lehr: Arc of Nature | The Complete Monograph – with essays by Eleanor Heartney, Joseph Treaster, Irving Sandler and Thom Collins.
The art critic and curator Elanor Heartney writes in the book, “Lehr has traveled far from
her early days as an aspiring Abstract Expressionist. Yet in certain ways, there is a remarkable continuity throughout the course of her evolution. She finds herself again moving into the unknown, a place she finds at once inspiring, a little terrifying, and deeply satisfying.”
“Lehr’s artmaking thoughtfully melds the principles of modernist abstraction with the lyrical beauty of the natural world,” added Heartney.
“Her work offers a reminder that art is an ever-changing organism whose past is never really past and whose future exists in embryonic form in the present.”
The comprehensive book chronicles Lehr’s artistic impact, from the 1950s through the first two decades of the 21st century. Some of the paintings included in the show at Rosenbaum Contemporary can also be found in the monograph published by Skira Editore.
In Eleanor Heartney’s essay in the book, she noted:
“In the first two decades of the 21st century, the news has been relentlessly grim. In recent years, Mira Lehr has added a new chapter to her distinguished oeuvre. Her recent works are consistent with modernist concerns that have long defined her aesthetic. But Lehr’s new works also exhibit a new urgency about the state of our world. “
“She leavens her message with a seductive beauty that is designed to inspire contemplation about what is at stake to save the natural environment. Her attitude reflects that of her mentor, Buckminster Fuller, when he said, ‘When I am working on a problem, I never think about beauty but when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong.’”

Heron Preston and MycoWorks One-of-a-KindIntroduce Art Piece Made with Reishi
Artist, creative director and designer Heron Preston debuted an art piece inspired by and designed with MycoWorks’ innovative mycelium material, “Reishi: A Fruit Bowl by Heron Preston” for MycoWorks, which will be available exclusively on a new digital platform by Heron Preston that will launch in early 2023. The inimitable, one edition only piece represents the first of many product launches between Heron Preston and MycoWorks.
Biotechnology company MycoWorks was originally founded by artists who pioneered the use of mycelium and other living materials to grow and create art. MycoWorks has since developed, commercialized and scaled its flagship material, Reishi – a unique, flexible, durable material that emulates the handfeel of animal leather but is made entirely from mycelium, the infinitely renewable root structure of mushrooms.
Born out of a joint appreciation for the sensory attributes and limitless design possibilities of mycelium and Reishi, “A Fruit Bowl by Heron Preston for MycoWorks” will be exclusively available as part of Heron’s soon-to-launch digital platform focused on L.E.D. (Less Environmentally Destructive) concepts and how they can
take shape in culturally relevant and relatable ways.
Heron Preston said, “A fruit bowl is usually one of the first objects that painters depict to demonstrate their skills and understanding of the medium. And this is an exercise on how this material (Fine Mycelium), through my lens is getting its startas a fruit bowl. A material with endless possibilities and applications, like a painting. The fruit made of Fine Mycelium messages new beginnings and a future not bound by our past but pushed forward through our imagination and human ingenuity; a breakthrough in materials science and biotechnology.”
Sophia Wang, MycoWorks Co-Founder & Chief of Culture said, “Given MycoWorks’ roots in art, this partnership with Heron Preston represents our company’s enduring values of thoughtful design and aesthetics, wide-ranging inspiration, and visionary imagination. Over the last decade, MycoWorks has grown to over 160 employees and produces tens of thousands of sheets of material per year, but these values have and will always hold true.”
Heron Preston will continue to craft and launch a range of designs made with Reishi in 2023.
