A Clean Move
While we sat on our backs complaining about the city’s pollution and petrol blues that has been going on for quite some time now, Mahindra teamed up with Reva and took one for the team coming up with the brand new Mahindra Reva E20. -Swechhya Dangol
There are hardly any places around the city that gives you the smell of fresh breeze now. Everywhere you go, you’ll see people wearing masks, the black smoke from trucks and other vehicles blowing right up in your face, the dirt from all the “road constructions” which the government promised to get done soon enough. It is appalling how pollution has travelled this far in so less time. And living in the capital has become quite a hassle. So while we continued living the way we do by adapting ourselves to the all-mighty pollution, Mahindra thought otherwise, and created Reva E2O, for those who care for the environment. The presentation of Mahindra Reva E2O, in the Regal Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency, Boudha on August 14th was brilliant. The event included a lot of auto-enthusiasts who couldn’t wait to see what Mahindra had in store for them. The name of the car derives from ‘e’Energy, ‘2’-Connected Technologies and ‘o’-Oxygen. Mahindra’s vision of the “future of mobility” which encompasses the 5Cs frameworkClean, Convenient, Connected, Clever and Cost effective has been incorporated perfectly in this compact car. From its modern electronic technology to its spacious interiors, Reva has definitely taken a step forward toward its zero-emission goal. I’m not an auto aficionado like my boss puts it, but when the new Reva E20 hit town, L&T BazaarPlus 24
I had to see what all the fuss was about. And there it was, the little green car – the brand new E2O. I looked around the car and all I could think was “that’s cute!” The perfect grills and headlights which at first reminded me of a hatchback; the plastic mirrors rising alongside a “powered by Reva” tag on its leftone of two doors; the back of the vehicle with taillights sized just right; the side lines running all the way to the back giving it a nice arc; it felt like Mahindra had made everything it wanted happen. No doubt my colleagues who were planning on riding along felt that me walking in circles around the E20 seemed a bit, how do I put it, a little –cuckoo-.
Getting inside was a bit of hassle considering how I had to slouch down and push myself into the back. But the space inside did come as a shock. It’s quite roomy for a car this tiny. I guess it also had something to do with my tiny size too. Let’s not give all the credits to the vehicle now shall we? Whether you’re large or tall, you’ll still fit in easily but it’s tricky getting in. Once you are inside, you’ll see a lot of circular consoles with power consumption, speed, temperature outside and inside, turn signal and head light beam indicators. The rear view mirrors on the outside are remote controlled. The central flat console has a GPS, reverse camera, audio system, radio, blue tooth… you name it, Reva has it-all
electronic. A touch screen monitor on the left of the steering shows the battery life of the vehicle. I got myself to the back, and although spacious, the seats as well as the headrest seemed quite hard. It could have been a softer material. The driving position is easy as there is enough leg space and comfortable seating which is great compared to its predecessor. The back could use a window though, instead of fixed plain transparent glass. All electronic. There’s nothing manual in the car. Even the gears are automatic. Which was a hassle in itself but we’ll get to that later. The car starts with a button and everything that follows starts with the push of a button. And E2O is smart too. Very smart. I’ve heard of smartphones that are smarter than people. And if I take a look at the range of tech products availabe and how they’re growing, I must admit, I’ve started believing that Armageddon is near-Humans vs Robots. With the rise of the E20, that illusion has been partially confirmed. The car has what they call a rescue mode which provides required charge to get the car going and the condition of the battery calculates the nearest charging point with the help of a satellite map and navigation giving you approximately 7% more life. The cool thing about the E2O is certainly the fact that it’s in sync with a device that’s so dear to you - your smartphone. If you’re hanging out somewhere and you’re in a rush, you don’t need to point your ‘key’ toward your E2O and wait to hear the beep. With the E20, use the app to unlock your car. Ofcourse you have to make sure of your wi-fi issues. Dreading getting into your E2O after you’ve left it in the sun for too long? Don’t sweat it – turn on the AC right from your car and step into a chilled out E2O. Your smartphone can be connected to almost car’s entire feature. Another
feature, Telematica, is for the lazy or the super-busy auto-enthusiast. It lets your mechanic or the guys at Mahindra Reva monitor the car (remotely) and remind you for maintenance and condition of the battery via a text message. What’s more, it even makes remote adjustments! If needed, they can also send someone over to your place, so if you’re that lazy or that busy, Mahindra Reva E20 might just be the car for you – for a whole new set of reasons. As we drove on the E2O, heads turned to get a glimpse of the vehicle. The car needed some getting used to though. I’m used to manual gears, so I needed some time to warm up. Once I got the hang of it, it was pretty much smooth sailing all the way. You push the start button on the right of the steering, touch the electronic key, the light goes green and you are ready to go. Pull the gear lever down one notch to F, press the throttle and off you go. Seriously simple! The electric technology that is used in the E2O makes sure it runs on clean energy which in turn makes zero emissions. As far as reducing emission gradually goes, E2Ois geared toward zero-emission. And that’s not all. No matter what car you drive in Nepal, the roads are the same, one might complain. The E2O is the perfect car for this reason too. It contains a regenerative braking feature which pumps energy back into the car’s batteries and charges them every time you slow down or brake. So the next time you’re stuck in slow moving traffic, cool it; think about the amount of moolah you’re saving on fuel as your car charges itself every time you break. Reva’s hard work to create a sustainable technology ecosystem of EVs might actually pay off. The gears are automatic, so it really takes time to get your mind off the gear system. There’s only an accelerator and brakes - that’s it. The engine braking as well as the discs on the front
Chetan Mani, Founder and CEO, Mahindra REVA “It’s full of connectivity features and now you can be connected to your car all the time, even from a range. You can even learn to drive.” Mahendra Tyagu, Vice President “It’s not the launch of product but of a concept. Mahindra’s objective is to sustain mobility factor. This could be the turning point for Nepalese auto history.”
make the brake pedal ultra sensitive. If your shotgun riding friend has no seat belts on, he might very well find himself plastered against the windshield. Once you’re used to the car, especially the silence of an EV, driving it is a pleasure. The steering is a bit stiff for such a small car but once you build up momentum, it gets easier. The reverse camera that turns on when shifted to R is of excellent quality, and a great help while parking. The authorities in Nepal claim to have brought in only ten E20s, and eight of them have already been sold. Although a good start, a handful of EVs running around town won’t make any difference on the environment. A thousand would start to make a dent. But hopefully with the launch of the E2O, we might just be on the right path. The technology of the future needs to be given a chance by societies, a mindset to introduce their change and a suitable environment to experiment their ideas. Mahindra Reva E20 has done a phenomenal job and their innovation can only get better. The E20 should be subsidized so that many more Nepalese can afford it. For the asking price of around 23 lakhs rupees, this vehicle might just help us hit the road toward cleaner and greener Nepali cities. If only everything in life were as easy as clicking. At the international level, the 2013 Kia Rio ranks 12 out of 40 in the segment. It has a sporty personality, impressive fuel economy, and high level of safety, and is a solid pick for cars in the subcompact segment. Continental Associates Pvt. Some of the currently available colors in the Nepali market are beige, red, bright silver, Wendy brown, and platinum graphite. Continental provides 100,000 km (or three-year) warranty in these cars.
Mr. Ugendra Shrestha, Assistant General Manager, Continental Associates Pvt. Ltd. What do Nepalis look for in a car? Car is all about a statement, and not just mere commuting, and that’s very much understood in the Nepal market. Nepali customers look for brand and design in the car besides comfort and freedom. What are some of the clever features of Kia Rio 2013 and how relevant is it in the Nepali context? Feature wise, the all new Rio has all the required handy features like Bluetooth, hand control music system, factory fitted music and virtual surround sound system, back warning system, 15-inch alloy wheels, leather seats and upholstery, driver hand rest, and so on. Most importantly, the European design and looks to match the style of Nepali youth and the young-at-heart, the fuel eďŹƒciency and greenest car engine, and 5-star safety rating of Euro NCAP are some of its clever features. More than the cosmetic features, I think the safety and high emission standards of the car are more relevant for the Nepali market.

Maintainance Tips Take care of your sports bike with thes few tips from expert • While pumping petrol or any engine oil into your bikes, do it from the same station every time. The use of different oils can hamper your bikes functionality. • Lubricate your chain every 300 miles or so (or anytime after riding in the rain).
• Checking tire pressures regularly is a good idea. • Do not give your bike just anywhere for handling. Go to qualified personnel. • Maintain tire pressure. Recommended: Silicon and Shell-full synthetic mobil.
Things to remember before buying a sports bike Maximum research The more CC a bike has, the more power. So if you’re a beginner with an interest on sports bikes, keep your interest in your pocket because it might not be worth buying. Sports bikes are heavy, and you need to make sure you can deal with that before making any kind of decision. Think before you spend Are you willing to spend thousands of rupees every month for the maintenance of your bike? Are you willing to lose them greens for the right kind of petrol, spare parts and accessories for your bike? Consider not just the price of the bike when you buy it but also the price you’ll have to pay for the maintenance and other costs of the bike. Try it before you buy it Consider your previous bike. If the CC of the bikes comes to be very different, then make sure you take it out for a ride first. Everything needs getting used to, and if you’re willing to spend so much money on your sports bike, then you might as well be ready to ride it appropriately. Start with less Don’t just buy a sports bike because you like the speed. Start with bikes that have less power and continue your way to heavy ones from there. If you’re riding a 150CC and you change it for that of 1000CC, you may fly on the road like you wanted to, but at the same time, there is a very big chance of you landing flat on your face as well.

Riding with your sports bike If you own a bike, I’m more than sure you’ve traveled a lot. The occasional hangouts with your friends; the impromptu tours to God knows where; and the planned bike rides where everything goes wrong and you swear to never return but still do because riding in itself is awesome. Well, here are some routes that you can go to with your sports bike.
Kathmandu - Bhaktapur Highway - Banepa Bazaar - Dhulikhel - Dolalghat
Kathmandu - Thankot - Malekhu - Muglin Narayanghat - Chitwan
Bhaktapur Highway: In movies, there’s this part where youngsters over-speed through a highway, and there’s a cop on the sidelines waiting in his car recording your speed with a device, and almost always, they chase you with flashy sirens on. That is exactly what happens in this highway. So be a sport and maintain your speed unless you’re looking to get a ticket. Of course, if you’re going for a ride, make sure that your fuel tank is full. But fuel in sports bikes tends to finish faster. So you might as well get some more. Right after you cross Bhaktapur Highway, there’s a petrol pump.
Thankot: The road here is a bit bumpy, so don’t expect to get your groove on in this lane. Make sure you carry your license and bill book.
Banepa Bazaar: This is a market place. So be careful while riding. There are kids on the streets and no traffic lights. Insider’s tip: Make sure you park your ride out of sight. There are chances of your bike getting scratches if you park it where everybody can see it.
Insider’s tip: Traffic police are not bike experts and they tend to mistake your sports bike for a modified version of another bike. In cases like these, make sure you remain polite and rationalize the situation and explain things thoroughly. Talking aggressively will only agitate you both and make things worse.
Average time: KTM–Dhulikhel and back: 60-70 minutes.
Average time: KTM–Chitwan: 3-4 hours at normal speed; this for a sports bike is 50-60 above.
Muglin: You have choices here. You can either return back or you can choose a lane. The right lane will lead you to Pokhara and the left will lead you to Chitwan. Of course, if you are planning to go further, spend a night or two there and have fun. Naubise: You can get yourself a little breakfast in Naubise. But, if you’re planning a laid-back ride, then try Malekhu. Here you can have your lunch along the Trishuli riverside.

No More Tippy-Toes Yamaha Ray, apart from style and comfort, has left no doubts in terms of safety as well. -Swechhya Dangol
It was a contribution of months of hard work, research, and passion. The brand which comes to mind as fun, exciting, race, and style, Yamaha also defines safety as one of their taglines with the launch of Yamaha Ray five months ago. “If we were to talk in the context of Nepal, the scooter market has grown a lot in the past four years. And, during the time of launch of Yamaha Ray, scooters L&T BazaarPlus 38
were the “in-thing”. They still are. Yamaha Ray is the first scooter of Yamaha. The best part was that we achieved our goal of getting 20% market share within four months of launching, which is a great success,” shares Suraj Manandhar, Business Head, Yamaha, M.A.W. Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. “We chose Namrata Shrestha, as our brand ambassador,” he adds, “The event launch was a
big success and Namrata carried it out wonderfully. We didn’t limit ourselves to just one event. We did lots more. We started “Caravan”, an event in which the ladies rode Yamaha Ray out on the streets of the valley. It was unexpected how Namrata Shrestha took it to a whole new level by talking to people and answering their questions. It was an amazing event. Now, we have other celebrities calling us up for Yamaha Ray, which is brilliant.
For the first time in Nepal, scooter has so many colors to choose from. One of the most eye-catching factors of Yamaha Ray is its style We’ve already sold around 1600+ scooters and the responses have been great.” For the first time in Nepal, scooter has so many colors to choose from. One of the most eye-catching factors of Yamaha Ray is its style. From its uniquely designed headlights in “V” shape followed by an in-built indicator which replicates a design of flashy diamonds, much attention has been paid to the details of the scooter. Another thing Yamaha Ray has taken into consideration is the height of the scooter. As we know, Nepali women
are not that blessed when it comes to heights, and you can see almost every other girl tippy-toeing on their scooter. Yamaha Ray is made in such a way that any average-height girl can reach the ground with their feet on ground.
“Customer satisfaction is our main goal. We make sure that we give our customers all that we can give. Rojina Bajracharya, Showroom In-Charge “Generally, people are opting for speakers within a price range of Rs.1, 800-1,900. Amongst them is the Logitech Z103. It has 2.1 speakers and is a very good companion in a personal space (i.e. room). It offers good bass control. Similarly, the Logitech Z130 is a device without woofer but suits its user just fine with its portability. Many enthusiastic customers like to opt for the 5.1 speaker systems. It is because they have high decibel capacities and their surround sound capabilities are quite impressive. There is a good option of volume and bass control in these speaker sets. Likewise, the Z323 is a speaker that fits quite well during official presentations.” Nadaram Jaisi, Sales Officer "Amongst the speakers that we have, Logitech Z506 with 5.1-speaker system is the most suitable for home theatre entertainment. It has 75-watt speakers (each) and is quite suitable for home theatre. It is even more viable for showrooms and cafés. Pick Your Pick at Zohra -Sadiksha Upadhyay During our major festivals Dashain and Tihar, many organizations give gifts to their premium, as well as, regular clients in order to show their gratitude towards them. Gifting has already become like a culture at the corporate level. Since the festive season is just around the corner, many of the organizations might have even already started planning on what gifts to give to their clients. So, this time, why not choose the gift items from Zohra? At Zohra, you can get gift items made up of dierent materials such as leather,
ceramics, silicon, cotton, wood, mica, and so on. This allows customers to choose gifts from a large variety of novelties. It is better to gift these items rather than alcohol because alcohol cannot be customized or branded, and they are consumed within the festive period itself. Gifts from Zohra, on the other hand, can be customized and branded according to your clients, and will last for much longer than just one festive season. Also, in Nepal, many organizations give alcohol as gifts. So, after some time, the
client won’t even remember which organization gave what brand of alcohol. But clients will remember if you gift them gifts from
Zohra because they will be customized. Zohra wishes everyday a Prosperous and Happy Dashain and Tihar.

Did you know before the invention of refrigerators, buildings were used to store ice throughout the year? They were called icehouses. Now that those days are gone and cooling foods have become much easier with the use of refrigerators, otherwise known as fridges; the way of keeping your veggies, fruits and whatnots cold have taken another turn with digital displays, no-frost scheme and LED lights.

tips to keep your fridge intact
• Check the door seals: A loose seal allows cool air to seep out, wasting energy and causing your fridge to work harder than it needs to. First make sure the seals are free of food residue (clean them about twice a year, using a toothbrush and a solution of baking soda and water). Then, try the 10-rupee note test: Close a 10-rupee note in the door so that half is in and half is out. If it slips out easily, you may need to have the door seals checked by a professional. • Keep the coils clean: When the condenser coils are covered with dust, the refrigerator can’t run efficiently. Twice a year, pull the machine from the wall to reveal the coils in the back (or snap off the grille, if the coils are on the bottom front), unplug the refrigerator,
and vacuum with the brush attachment. • Set the right temperature: Keep the fridge between 37 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit and the freezer at 0 degrees. • Fill it up (even if you never cook and only have takeout): Refrigerators need “thermal mass” (a.k.a. lots of stuff) to maintain low temperatures. Cool foods and drinks help absorb warm air that streams in when you open the door. If you’re the eat-out type or your fridge is too big for your needs, store a few jugs of water in there. • Be prepared: If the power goes out, keep the doors closed and use foods from the pantry. An unopened refrigerator will keep food safe for four hours; a freezer will maintain its temperature for 48 hours if full, and 24 hours if half-full.
Did You Know? • A refrigerator typically accounts for around 10% of a home’s power bill. About 1/3 of a refrigerator’s cold air can escape when the door is open, which is why a closed door keeps energy costs down. So does using energy-efficient appliances: an Energy Star refrigerator uses less power than a 75-watt light bulb. • November 14 is “National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day”. • Fresh foods should be kept only one to two days in a refrigerator. Cooked meats can be stored for three to four days. To keep L&T BazaarPlus 62
food longer, wrap it in airtight foil or plastic wrap after use and store at a temperature below 40 degrees F. • Did you know that Albert Einstein co-invented a refrigerator? He and his former student Leo Szilard received a patent for it in 1930. Coolants used at the time could have been toxic, and Einstein got the idea for a simple, singlepressure absorption refrigerator when he read about a sleeping family killed by leaking refrigerator coolant.
things to remember before buying a refrigerator
The size The first thing to look for in a refrigerator is the size. Buying an overly large fridge which may remain partially empty will only use more kitchen space and increase purchase and energy costs, because we don’t use it for commercial reasons but rather domestic; buying a large size fridge is unreasonable unless you have a huge family. The price Set a price range before you venture out to buy a fridge. Most of us want extraordinary items; however, they also come with extraordinary prices. Setting a price range will make it easier for you to determine the fridge you wish to buy. The performance Performance should never be taken for granted. This is another major thing to check before buying a refrigerator. You need to know how well it performs, especially in hot summer weather. Your refrigerator is supposed to provide an even temperature in all areas/compartments. How easy is it to use? Refrigerators can pack a lot of food into a small space, but you need to make sure that all members of the family can get what they want. At the store, test how much strength it takes to open the doors to make sure elderly relatives, for example, would be able to handle them. Is there a convenient space that kids can reach to hold snacks? Try the drawers when they are full and empty; the drawers on some lessexpensive models can stick when fully loaded.

From the 8-bit Atari to the soon-to-be-released PlayStation 4, the evolution of gaming is a tale of triumph and has now become an industry, which makes more than Hollywood. -Abhishek Mishra
Growing up, no other topic perhaps galvanized the young kids around like gaming did. Fortunate as it was to have perhaps one of the first consoles that people had heard of, what really started then was a love affair that has lasted for two decades now. The first machine available locally really was the 8-Bit Atari. Compared to today’s insatiable standards, one can’t even imagine the simple pleasure of holding that joystick all the while you played games like Superman and Formula 1, games that would be considered ‘boring’ today. It was a novel experience and the young mind is just built to be entertained that way. The joysticks, however, were as flimsy as you could find. A little tug and pull, and it rested broken in your hand. But that’s how it started. What came next were the 16-bit gaming consoles that we used for years on end. The Sega models gave you two versions: the most popular ones were the consoles L&T BazaarPlus 64
that played the 9999 in 1. If you remember this cartridge, you will be smiling right now. It was quite brilliant really; the yellow cartridge with probably the best games money could buy at that time. A few games did stand out and keep you busy for hours. The legendary Mario was introduced to us in that way. Only a chosen few ever finished this game, but we all bragged we did. Another favourite from back then was Contra. It will be hard to describe how enjoyable and toughas-nail this game was, but it is a lot of fun still. The mid 90s to the early 2000s were spent in front of the TV enjoying the joys of gaming pleasure and then, it got better. Somehow, the turn of the millennium brought this culture of smaller game number cartridges, i.e. the 4 in 1s or 6 in 1s and these were infinitely more fun. To this day, people who played these games as kids do a double take when they see them on display in a shop, just to check what games are on. These
smaller cartridges, quite frankl, raised the graphics and gameplay quality level like never before. Games like Double Dragon I and Double Dragon II were some of the finest beat’em-ups and can still hold their own if we talk about sheer enjoyment. But, soon news was spreading of a brand new gaming device that would incorporate CDs to play games. While we were tantalized by the prospect, few of us could muster the courage to ask our parents to buy that for us. Besides, we chose to nag our parents into buying us a PC, so a PlayStation One was out of the question. But it seems that if the gamer doesn’t find the game, the game finds the gamer. Soon the PS One was in your truly’s hands and while the graphics weren’t cutting edge, there were still some games on hand that would keep you hooked. One game that really did stand out was Tony Hawk’s Proskater 3. If you ever got the hang of this game, it would keep you busy easily
for days till you unlocked all the locations and gained the highest points. Sadly though, since the PS One CDs were so expensive for the time, we chose PC Games CDs over them. And, quite frankly, the PC Game love affair deserves a story of its own. God knows how many weeks were spent trying to finish Need for Speed 3 Hot Pursuit. Or how many times we gathered at a friend’s to go head-to-head Playing Mortal Kombat 3 and Need for Speed 2. CD trading culture became the norm in our schools and CDs became popular birthday gift items as well. For years, we trusted our home computer for the most fun, and most fun was absolutely had. Soon though, gaming parlours started installing the newly available PlayStation 2 and we were all enthralled. If anyone remembers the old Skate-In skating rink in Dillibaazar, they will know of what I speak. Games like WWF SmackDown and Street Fighter 4 were a staple and the summers of the early 2000s were very much invested in scavenging whatever money we had for a little gameplay. As the years rolled on, and your pockets got a little heavier, soon you invested in getting a PS 2 for yourself, with another friend chipping in as well. The deal was he would keep it one week and then you would another, so it didn’t “hamper our studies and work”. That worked against us as then we had a small time frame to finish as many games as we could. It became like a gaming frenzy till three in the morning. Some games though were absolutely worth it. Resident Evil 4 was horror done right and anyone familiar with this franchise will duly agree. The God of War series was an unbelievable experience, and it still ranks as one of the best games out there. As a fan of the movie, Godfather, I was tempted to try the game as well. Added reason being it had Marlon Brando doing voiceover for his iconic character of Vito Carleone, and it didn’t disappoint.
After a couple of years of some serious gameplay, we amassed some 30 games under our belt and then sold them. It all but seemed that gaming was a phase now gone for us. And then the PlayStation 3 came roaring in. What also egged the dormant enthusiasm were the new game parlours like Gamestation in People’s Plaza where Fifa became the game of delight and a sport of competition. So, not too long ago, the PS 3 decided to find its way to this gamer’s hands, and in all honesty, it is a machine worth investing in. The exclusive games on Sony PlayStation 3 alone make it a solid buy and due to the technology available locally, game DVDs have become obsolete. The finale of the God of War series played a huge role in the acquiring of this machine; so did the next instalment, God of War: Ascension. Also, new games such as Batman: Arkham Asylum and the Assassin’s Creed series are something that are eagerly awaited and have you making time for it to be purchased and brought home. All in all, the PlayStation 3 is a magnificent console to have with gaming options, and sound quality to die for. Some of the graphics, to be honest, just make you wonder how far we’ve come. And we have come so far. From playing brick games on your handheld console to the splendour of the next generation consoles, it’s a marvel how technology has kept evolving and pushing virtual reality to this amazing crescendo where we are at the moment. Gaming is now a multi-billion dollar industry and spans across the world holding conventions and competitions that have brought e people from the furthest corners in contact with each another. True, most of the time they are playing against each other and looking to beat the other at Fifa, but the kids in us, it seems, can never really grow up.
Recommendations While people today may not be updated with the latest consoles, it is really no sin to enjoy the older machines. Rather, they can be the most fun, and here is how:
On the 16-bit Sega • Homerun: This baseball game is so much fun, it will absolutely never lose its charm. Having personally played it a few months back, I can vouch for its amusement value even today. • Double Dragon 2: I can’t stress enough how enjoyable this gameplay is, and it is still one of the toughest games you’ll come across. Along with Street Fighter 2, this game deserves to be given another round from time to time.
On the PC • Prince of Persia- Warrior Within: A reboot of the classic Prince of Persia series, this trilogy wowed gamers with its graphics and the time reversal option. • Max Payne 1: Till date, the most favourite game played. Max Payne just stands out as a game with amazing narration, a great storyline, and of course, the bullet time option.
On the PlayStation 2 • Shadow of the Colossus: While the gameplay can take some patience to get into, once you do, it is quite the journey, and meeting and slaying the monsters is a feat to behold. • Smackdown Vs Raw 2006: The roster is huge here, and so the wrestlers that you can play as, make it a top recommendation.
On the PlayStation 3 • Uncharted 3: You just have to play this to realize how lifelike the graphics here are. Words just won’t do it justice. • Heavy Rain: When a game boasts of 23 alternate endings, it has to be something special. But what is even more interesting is the unconventional controller use.

GO GAMING! Exploring the benefits of gaming -Pratik Vaidya
For as long as I can remember being able to use a computer or attach a gaming console to the TV, I’ve been an avid gamer. During my early years, those were the times of the Atari, Terminator, and Nintendo64 consoles, and computers that could run games such as Minesweeper and Dangerous Dave, and later, Doom, Duke Nukem, and Road Rash. There was always something unique and fascinating in every game: an entire different world to explore, horrible villains to defeat, a damsel in distress to rescue, or a championship trophy to win. Yet they composed a common element in that they required the players to be swift, decisive, and intricate in the face of challenging scenarios. Gaming has contributed to developing some very important life skills in me. Some denounce gaming culture as one that causes isolation, time wasting, hand/eye strain, and physical inactivity, added to the fact that it becomes an expensive indulgence over time. On the other hand, there are others who refute those claims, stating that playing games and discussing strategy brings people together, helps you to develop excellent hand-eye coordination (also, the new full-body motion-sensing games take this to another level), and enable people to develop mental skills such as strategy formulation, puzzle solving, creative thinking, logical reasoning, and decision making. Scientific studies back up these pro-gaming claims, as research has proven that games help increase problem solving and creativity and gamers are known to have greater activity in the dorsal cingulated L&T BazaarPlus 66
cortex, the part of the brain which controls cognition and planning. Games that require decision making and critical thinking exercise the orbito-frontal cortex to a good extent. The chemical dopamine, which is responsible for rewarddriven learning, is produced in significant amounts as gamers accomplish objectives, enabling them to learn new skills faster. The hippocampus, responsible for processing sensory information and exercising memory, is also found to be enhanced in gamers. In all, video game players have been found to perform 10% to 20% better in terms of perceptual and cognitive ability than non-gamers. Studies have shown that kids who played games scored 23% higher in creative tests that involved tasks such as drawing pictures and writing stories. On a higher-level note, surgeons who enjoy gaming were 27% faster at advanced surgical procedures and made 37% fewer errors. Games can indeed make a difference. In 2011, gamers came together to solve an AIDS protein problem in 15 days that had puzzled scientists for over a decade. It is also highly suggested that parents be involved in gaming with their children as it not only helps the adult learn new things, it reverses the normal parent-child relationship; children become the experts while the parents are the awkward novices. So, let’s all game, allow our children to game, and let’s all game together: it’s one of the ways we can make the world a better place. And, as for the claims that games can induce violent and aggressive behavior, it is as flimsy a link as saying watching a war movie would make you more likely to wage war.
Gamers’ Spot The legendary Super Mario is everyone’s favorite. And we also can’t get enough of NFS. Let’s find out what games are taking over the world right now. Shreejana Upadhyay, student Games for me are a way of escaping the reality. I’ve been playing them ever since I can remember. My first game experience was obviously Super Mario. Now, I’m more into Guitar Hero, Project IGI, and other numerous games. I broke my Playstation a while ago, so I’m using my PC as a game station instead. Playstation 4 is what I’m waiting for. I need to get it once it comes to our city. Right now, I’m hung up on the Slender Man. It is a first person horror game and it’s awesome. Ashish Neupane, student Gaming is my life. I always hang out at gaming parlors, and I love arcade games. Civil Mall is one of the places that I love going to just because they have a gaming parlor there. I am a Pacman fan. I never get tired of it. At home, I play a lot of FIFA and NFS-Underground (one of my favs). Right now, I’m playing Call of Duty. I’m really looking forward to Playstation 4. Saroj Ghimire, student Gaming is what keeps me sane I think. No matter where I go, all I do is play games. Be it on my laptop, my PC, my phone. FIFA is a game I’m really addicted to. When I was little, I used to play a game called Theme Hospital. It was a really great game, but it only runs on XP. I’m into first person games. I’m into adventure and action games as well. Currently, I’m playing Tomb Raider III. Playstation 4 sounds great but I doubt it’ll be here soon. So, for now, I’m making my peace with what I have.
PlayStation’s Next Play.. A few months back, Sony’s long-awaited update to the PS3 was unveiled at the world’s largest gamer’s expo, E3 2013. What was exposed on the convention floor that week was the fact that Sony and Microsoft are still battling it out to be the leader in game consoles, with both tech giants renting out about the same amount of space in the West Hall of LA Convention Center. Equal in numbers were vendors supporting PlayStation consoles and Xboxes, and equal was the hype over the new console offerings from both competitors, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, both due to hit the streets this holiday season, with the PS4 already sold out as far as pre-orders go. That means that if you were planning to play on a PS4 during the American holiday season of Nov-Dec, and you have not already pre-ordered yours, you won’t be playing until sometime later in 2014.

But for those of you like me, sitting pretty with a PS3 now for years, perhaps you are not all that disappointed, or are you? The differences between the current PS3 and the PS4 seem vast, on paper at least; considering that few people have actually gotten to play with a prototype PS4 to actually report the differences hands-on. First, the price is higher, by at least 100 USD for a basic setup (console + one DualShock controller). So expect to pay at least 399 USD for a basic PS4 come 2014. Then, all the hardware for the PlayStation line has received significant updates:
The new AMD Jaguar 8-core GPU is specked to be faster and more capable than the old PS3 cell processor, and on par with the processor used in the new Xbox One. The “instant on” PS4 has updated memory (DDR5) and the quantity is generous: 8GB (also the same as in the Xbox One). The big shock between hardware specs comes with the newly designed DualShock 4 controller. The joysticks are reported to be easier to grip, and the trigger buttons improved for performance. The new controllers also now have a touchpad and a “share” button, which is purported to instantly post a video of your gameplay on Facebook and other social media sites. Also on the new controller is a Cylonlooking light bar that is actually an improved way of communicating with the controller–if you have also purchased the new motion eye. The motion eye will track the movement of the controller so, for example, if you change
seats with your fellow gamer, the controller will sense that and adjust your split-screen game accordingly. Other minor updates to the hardware include the expected USB 2.0 to USB 3.0 update, and now you get one more USB port (three in total). Bluetooth got bumped up to v2.1 vs. 2.0, and WiFi was improved to IEEE 802.11 b/g/n (with the “n” being the optimal improvement). Rounding out the hardware improvements is a new 500 GB hard drive and the new camera, now operating at HD 1280 x 800 vs. the old antique 640 x 480 resolution. Game-wise there have been improvements and devolutions both, as old games are not backward compatible. You won’t be able to play your PS3 or PS2 games on the new device, but the new PS4 games that you do buy will be easily shareable with your pals (no piracy protection included). And, an army of new titles is coming our way, beginning with “Beginning with the Order,” a new-quad shooter. Killzone4, Diablo3, MadMax, and Watchdog will all be available in likewise mind-blowing fashion. Sports freaks will also be greeted with new NBA 2K14 and DriveClub. Kids are not left out from new
But for those of you like me, sitting pretty with a PS3 now for years, perhaps you are not all that disappointed, or are you? offerings if allowed to play the new “Knack,” a goblin-hunter puzzle action thriller. PS Vita owners will be pleased to see that Vita support has been made integral to the PS4, meaning that you will be able to control and stream all PS4 games using your smaller device. (Game producers are now required to support this functionality). In addition, there are rumors that Sony may even bundle the PS Vita with the PS4 in limited-edition packages for something like 500 USD. As for the interface (or UI as us geeks say), that’s also been spiffed up over the tired old PS2-3 style. In-game chatting has been improved, with Like
clicks, the Share feature, and messaging. Now even someone on a smartphone will be able to follow along with your game as it’s played out, putting UI connectivity on par with the Xbox One or 360, as well as providing a more modern-looking dashboard. S, all things considered, I was not all that excited about replacing my perfectly capable PS3 with a new console just a few years after purchasing, but after doing the research for this review, I’m actually psyched at the thought of getting one. The deal-makers for me are: speakers and headphone jack on the controllers, swiping on the new touchpad, instant-on and wakeup from sleep, video recording up to 15 minutes, and game play while the game is actually downloading from the internet, in addition to being able to quickly hijack my pal’s controller to help him through a tough patch in the game. Now, the hard part, waiting until someday in 2014 before I can try out any of this new goodness. Paint my World Tools used by tattoo artists to lock inventive stains permanently skin deep in order to make tattoo fanatics brag of their inked spots. - Kshitiz Singh
Tattoo enthusiasts, pursuing their passion and the economic high tattooing holds, have mushroomed to practice the body art, breaching the traditional barriers. Despite having a body modification history surrounded by strong Newari and Tharu culture, trained tattooing practice is considered to be fresh in Nepal. The newly introduced profession, now nurtured in many corners, has its highs and lows. Nevertheless, the proud circle of tattoo artists have been prancing, dodging the possible negative facet. And, contrary to the contemporary customs that still portray dreadful messages in societies chained within cultural and traditional perimeters, body art fanatics too have sprouted in remarkable numbers. The revolutionary leap of coming together of skin modifiers has made the use of modern gears, international style, innovative ideas, and hygiene more considerable. Traditionally practiced in dot format with insanitary ink and metal rods, the style and tools have now been replaced by organic and contamination-free vegetable ink, sanitized needles, and safer machines. A line of equipments comprising motors, petroleum gel, sanitized gloves, and aftercare ointments too have been L&T BazaarPlus 70
added to modern tattooing kits. However, most artists or apprentices admit to having used cheaper inks for convenience. This results in many poorly done tattoos, skin allergies, and several unsatisfied clients. With gradual rise in standards, the colors artists use too are being upgraded. Sudeep Khadka, regarded as one of the most influential Nepali tattoo artists, explains, “Like many, I too started with drawing ink. The results were not as I expected them to be.” Cruising through such times, Khadka is now known for using world-class inks and equipments. “Intenze, Fusion, and Dynamic
are some brands I use. They are internationally famed for their smoothness and texture. In the Nepali market, the price of these brands can range from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 4,500 per bottle.” He further states, “The novices need not have fear considering the overly priced rates of colors. There are good quality products that work just fine. Primary set is used by beginners. This set is made of 12 basic colors. And there is also an option of choosing a more advanced 52-color set.” These colors, dropped on small tubs, are transfused to body parts via metal needles attached on a pen-like machine
with a heavy-duty motor. Though a machine has most characteristics similar to that of a normal ball pen, these heavier versions of pens require constant electricity supply. Foot pedal relays current from a volt guard which is tagged onto the motor on the tattoo machine. These pedals mostly come in a tattooing kits but many have been using sustainers used by guitar and piano players. Like the music sustainer, the foot pedal lets current flow when pressed, and the flow is disrupted once the weight comes off it. Stating the reason behind the change in gears, Khadka explained, “John Maharjan came up with this idea in our studio. Musicians too use sustainer pedals for similar purpose, but unlike tattoo pedals, their brands have gained unbeatable fame.”
He added, “I use Marshall Pedal. Seeing something like that in a tattoo studio has amazed many of our musically inclined clients.” Like the color and pedal, tattoo needles too have an equally key role to play. The size, design, and other aspects decide the type of needle that is to be used. Lining needles, shading needles, and flat needles are used to perform their respective tasks. Also, the number of needles depends on the size of the tattoo. There have been cases where artists have used over 25 needles on a single tattoo. The number of needles is directly proportional to the size of the tattoo. A session with inks and needles in Kathmandu can range between Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 3,500 per hour. The cost sometimes may vary according to the complication of the design,

size, and artist. As is usual, novices charge comparatively lower than experienced artists. Acchyang Lama, a fairly new artist in the Nepali tattooing scenario, explains, “It’s hard to get human skin as practice skin for starters. Crooked lines, huge blobs of unnecessary patches, swelling of tissues, and uneven distribution of color are amongst the many mishaps that can occur. So, people tend to stay away from beginners. We learn from these mistakes. Hence, while starting, it is normal to see tattoo artists tattooing at cheaper prices, and even for free, during their starting days. Wine and food There is a saying that goes ‘wine should marry with food’. This means that different wines need different sets of food items to bring out their optimum taste. Suppose we are having Italian pasta or a typical Nepali food item, then red wine made from Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes is a good choice. Likewise, Pinot Noir wines are more appropriate to drink along with food items such as
Glassware spaghetti, pizza, and those that have cheese as an ingredient. Wines made from merlot grapes have a soft and wooden taste. There are about 45–50 of its varieties available in Nepal’s market. They go with any kind of food. Also, wines made from carmenere grapes from Chile are also very popular as far as we have noticed from our sales. It is another red wine that goes with a lot of variety of food items.
Protection for wines ‘Wine is a living liquid. If it is not taken care of properly, it will simmer and die,’ It has a natural growth. Due to sunlight, the growth of anti-oxidant bacteria in wines takes place, and hence, enhances the maturity of the wine. It has a peak point as well when kept in darkness. Hence, we should
keep in mind the level of the wine’s authenticity while storing it. It should be kept at a temperature of 14 to 18 0Celsius. It should also be kept away from extreme sunlight, excessive humidity, intense vibrations, and smelly places.
Things to know before you buy wine There are various ways to know whether a wine is damaged. If a wine bottle has a leak, it evaporates, and its content level is below the tag label in the neck. This is a good way to check its quality. Some opportunists bring damaged wine and sell it at a cheaper price to the distributors. There have been some cases where retailers had to suffer a loss some time ago. If the wine is fake or the bottle is damaged, or if it expires, white wine will turn yellow after storing it for some time. Similarly, red wine turns brownish in the long run. A major thing that customers need to keep in mind is whether they are paying the right price or not
for a particular wine. Table and vintage wines have cheap price levels, as they are not matured for a long period of time. But reserved wines are matured for at least 12 months. They fall under a price range that is a bit more expensive than the table and vintage wines. Then come the premium wines, which are carefully matured to give a unique taste and quality. They are actually award winning wines with logos kept in the bottles along with their titles. Some have stickers to indicate the certificate that is approved by world-renowned wine experts. Hence these wines are carefully selected and their prices are higher than those of other categories.
Riedel is an excellent glassware brand when it comes to wines. Also, wine glasses from the brand Ocean are also well known for their quality. Basically, they are categorized and made according to the types of wines. White wine glass White wines are not as concentrated as the red wines. Hence, to prevent the aroma from escaping, its glass has a small mouth and is narrowed gradually in its design from the bottom to the top. Champagne glass As champagne has more carbon dioxide content than any other wine, it produces a lot of bubbles. So, to ensure that the fizziness stays in an elegant way, it requires a slender and long glass. Ultimately, the glass ensures the crispness of the drink. Red wine glass Red wines are more aged and matured than the white ones. Hence they need to be more oxidized before drinking. Therefore, the glass for the drink has a wider mouth than other wine glasses. Dessert wine glass As a dessert wine is a highly concentrated one, its glass is quite small when compared with other glasses.

Organic wines Organic wines have a special aroma. Grapes used during their production are not mixed with any pesticides when grown. So far, I think we are the only importer for this category of wine in Nepal. All wines contain sulphide oxide though. This is to enhance their taste as well as to preserve them. But, some companies use more of its content, which is harmful for health. In organic wines, the content of sulphide oxide is also low. So they are very tasty and give a natural fragrance. We usually import those from the brand Tamburlaine, which is one of the largest organic wineries in the world. Even the Australian government provides grants for this company for its R&D as well as production.
Divine and Sweet “It has been over three years now since our company introduced Divine Wine in the consumers market. Surprisingly, we have become the No.1 best seller in the market today. It is basically a red sweet wine at an affordable price. The quality of Divine wine has been widely appreciated by our customers in all regions of Nepal where it is supplied (mostly the major cities). It’s packaging has also attracted our customers along with its taste. We are planning to introduce four new variants of the brand at present. An upcoming version will be the Divine white wine which will hit the market very soon.” -as told by Santosh Khadka, Marketing Manager (Shree Mahakali Wine Pvt. Ltd.)

Tips on maintaining your windcheaters Take care of your jackets by using these tips shared by Tendi Sherpa, Managing Director of Mountain Hard Wear. • Always clean mud off, no matter which product you are using. Do not store your jacket with mud encrusted on them. Mud may degrade the quality of your hiking jacket. • Never store hiking jacket, soggy. Soggy jackets should be carefully dried out prior to storage. Non-synthetic jackets can also degrade from being stored next to damp items.
• You can use a sweater panel to dry wet synthetic jacket following washing, particularly down; this assists in keeping the form. • Do not clean down jackets in hot water or the hydrophobic goods will wear away. • Always favor cold water over lukewarm and lukewarm water over hot. Avoid using hot water. Usually, cold water is the safest choice to help preserve the synthetic jacket’s durability, breathability, and hydrophobic traits.

Maintaining Shades A bit goes a long way Shades can be maintained the same way you would maintain your glasses; you just have to take a bit of extra care since you take them off more frequently. • Buy a microfiber pouch or a hard case if you want to put your shades in your bags; it’ll prevent the lens from getting scratched. • Always place the shades lens-side up to prevent scratching the lens. • To clean shades, rinse them with warm water and wash with mild detergent. Use microfiber or cleansing cloth to dry them. • To fix small problems with your shades, visit the optician, they have the equipment and knowledge to do a better job than you.
Pay for what you buy Birendra Shakya, owner of Gift House, Bishal Bazaar and City Center shares with us a few tips. It is getting more and more difficult to distinguish between fake and original shades, but there are a few things that you can do to ensure that the shades you are buying is an original one. Compare the shades you are planning to buy with the one in the catalogue, go through the details provided. Look at the model number, the size number, and the color of the lens and the frame. Original ones match the description of the product in the catalogue.
“Why should you spend so much money to buy an original shade when forged ones can look the same, if not really similar?” The answer is simple; you pay for what you buy. The shades that are the genuine pieces have a better finishing and a better fit making them more comfortable. These shades are also long lasting and more scratch resistant. Unlike the cheaper counterfeit shades, they also have UV protection and polarization to protect your eyes from the harsh sun and its reflection. 79 L&T BazaarPlus

A diamond certificate is also known as a diamond report and is issued by an accredited independent gemological laboratory. A complete diamond certificate includes multiple parameters to judge a diamond, and that includes an analysis of the diamond’s dimensions, clarity, color, polish, symmetry, and other characteristics which are essential in determining or testifying a diamond's value. Many round diamonds will also include a cut grade on the report. It will also report its proportions and the quality of its cut as well as its degree of fluorescence, and of course, all the detailed measurements. These grades are the opinion of the individual at the lab who graded the diamond, based on the lab’s own subjective grading standards. Certification does not assign a monetary value to a stone; it assigns grades on the diamond’s key qualities. International gemological labs All these gemological labs certify diamond jewelery as per their quality. Before purchasing a diamond, the customer should review a copy of its certificate to ensure that it has undergone an unbiased, professional examination. All of L&T BazaarPlus 80
the below-mentioned certificates are internationally recognized. Gemological Institute of America (GIA) American Gemological Society (AGS) European Gemological Laboratory (EGL) Diamond High Council (HRD, which is an abbreviation of the Dutch “Hoge Raad voor Diamant”) International Gemological Institute (IGI)
GIA, based in the United States, is considered to be the industry standard and is the most widely used and trusted name in the diamond trade. AGS is well-known for its in-depth scientific research into diamond color grades. AGS’s color grading is considered to be superior to GIA’s by some jewelers. HRD, EGL, and IGI are not as well known in the United States as their American brethren, but a certificate from any of these agencies is solid proof (but not a guarantee) that you are not going to end up with a diamond “lemon.” In India, and also at the international level, most of the premium jewelers give international lab quality certificates. This trend is increasing. In Nepal too, Gitanjali Jewels provide international lab certificates for all their diamond jewelry. Also, what every customer should know is that no extra price can be charged for the certificate. All customers should ask for external certificate for the diamond jewelry being purchased because they are buying a diamond, not a piece of paper.
Types of diamond certificates
Internal: Internal certificates have no value outside the store of jewelers because they are the certificates that are self declared by the jeweler. External: External certificates are the certificates that are lab certified and the lab name is also mentioned.
Prasun Jalan, proprietor of Gitanjali Jewels Always buy a certificated diamond because if the diamond is not certified, there is a good chance you may be buying a stone that is below its stated values. Practice reading several diamond grading certificates before visiting a store so that you know what you are looking at and what you want. If your diamond is not graded by one of the five internationally recognized certificates listed above, chances are the grading stated is misleading and that you are purchasing something of lesser quality than indicated. It is not advisable to buy diamonds with certificates that are more than three years old since diamonds, like everything else, are prone to wear and tear, and over time, can chip, scratch, or crack, and a certificate more than three years old is not going to reflect the accumulated everyday damage.

Products available at Gold and Silver House, Pyukha, New Road
These days, men are not just stocking up on suits and dress shirts, but are also doing something that women have been doing for years: buying jewelry for themselves. And the bracelet is perhaps the most striking example of the increasing accessory craze. We believe it is because they are taking their appearance more seriously and are feeling more confident to experiment with their looks. Supporting latest trends, the jewelry designers are also keeping the accessories as far away from the feminine as possible. A usual connotation with regard to bracelets is that only women are expected to wear them because if we are to notice, men do not normally wear bracelets. They just wear a stud on one ear, a neck chain, or perhaps a ring (if they are married). If a man started sporting a bracelet, he may be mistaken to be a transgender or an individual who has lost his fashion sense. But, now that societies are becoming more open-minded, men sporting bracelets are not a problem. Therefore, men’s bracelets are excellent addition to men’s styling.
Tips for men
In men’s jewelry, like in women’s, one size does not fit all. Your bracelet should not look like you borrowed it from your girlfriend. Your bracelet ought to compliment your character and fashion. Else, no matter how glamorous or costly the bracelet may be, it will not work for you.

ALL ABOUT CHANDELIERS Chandeliers endow rooms not only with a rich glow of light, they also conjure up an ambience that is romantic and regal. -Nidhi Adhikari
What a difference a chandelier can make to any room! Here’s the low down on some really high-end stuff in case you are giving serious consideration to having a couple of these beauties in your home.
Maintenance Magic To keep intact the splendor of your chandelier, proper care and cleaning is required. Follow these simple guidelines to keep your chandeliers looking their best.
• Be cautious while cleaning your chandelier. Ensure that the power switch is turned off before you start. • Remove dust from the outer surface of your chandelier on a regular basis. Wipe the light bulbs as well. For this purpose, use a dry linen or microfiber cloth. This reduces having to do intense cleaning in the long run. • For thorough cleaning, the chandelier parts need to be removed from the frame and then washed in soapy water. Rinse clean and dry using a cloth. Brass chandeliers may require a polish to its shine. • Most effective results can be obtained by using chandelier cleaner solution. You can also make your own mixture by combining three parts distilled water and one part isopropyl alcohol. This mixture is known to be the best cleaning solution for crystal chandeliers. • You can also call a professional to take proper care of your chandelier. Many manufacturers deliver services for their buyers.
Chandeliers demand maintenance and care. For longevity, follow the required steps to keep your exquisite chandeliers in proper condition. L&T BazaarPlus 84
Placing Your Chandelier Correct placement is the key to getting the most out of chandeliers. • Choosing a fixture that has a diameter half that of your tabletop is a classic formula. The height of a chandelier depends on the height of the ceiling but should hang at least 30 inches above the table. The contour of the chandelier should flow cohesively with the surrounding elements. For example, a circular shaped chandelier will look attractive when used over a similar circular shaped table. For ceilings nine feet or higher, you may also consider a two-tier style chandelier to fill the space from the top of the fixture to the ceiling. • Vaulted ceilings are exemplary for elaborate Victorian or Empire chandeliers, which is why another popular setting for a chandelier is the foyer. Not only does the foyer complement and show off the chandelier, it also creates a welcoming atmosphere to greet guests. For two-story foyers, if windows are present above the front door, center the fixture in the window so it can be seen from outside. • Any type of chandelier can be placed in bedrooms and guestrooms. The overall style of the room helps decide what kind of chandelier is best suited. Keep the visual effect of the chandelier in mind; you don’t want your room looking overcrowded. Installing dimmer switches is a good idea for creating ambience and a more flattering light. A chandelier with dim lighting creates a romantic effect. Standard rules for choosing a chandelier size are not always appropriate. It is your preference in the end, so make sure you go for what feels right for you. Once you are certain of where you want to place your chandelier, head out to stores to find an option you are comfortable with.
From Average to Impressive An extravagant piece in decoration, chandeliers provide lighting of all kinds. Considered the most expensive kind of light fixture, they are made of different materials and come in varying styles. • Crystal chandeliers Made from real or faux sparkling optic crystals, these chandeliers are easy to maintain and clean. Elaborate crystal fixtures make these the most emblematic type of chandelier. With lights on the arm surrounding the central light, the crystal chandelier looks very elegant when used in the master bedroom and is appropriate for brightening areas. • Glass chandeliers The glass chandelier is referred to as the normal chandelier as it is cheaper than other types of chandeliers. Made from clear or colored glass pieces, these chandeliers are customarily available in a dome shaped covering. • Crystal glass mix chandeliers • Ceramic chandeliers • Metal chandeliers Wrought iron, brushed nickel, or brass are popularly used to make the chandelier. The metal chandelier features simple curved lines and shaded lighting. They give an antique demeanor to the room in which they are placed. • Mini chandeliers Also known as “chandelettes”, the mini chandelier, made from almost any material, is generally used as a decorative
piece because it does not provide efficient lighting. They are ideally placed in bathrooms or well-lit spaces that are small for standard chandeliers. • Beaded chandeliers Pit beads of glass are present all over the lamp. A significant feature is that the beaded chandelier is less formal. Installation is unchallenging as the beaded chandelier is comparatively lighter than other chandeliers. After exploring the numerous options, buyers can purchase a chandelier that best suits their requirements and illuminates with a sophisticated aura.
Bringing Style Home Contemporary Contemporary chandelier lighting pushes design trends to new innovative levels. Available in varying structures and frames, they are made of sharp lines and bold features. With modern light fixtures, these chandeliers may sport dangling blown glass bulbs or round globes. Less furnished or modernly decorated areas look exceptional with this ornate chandelier.
Ranging in style from traditional to rustic, take advantage of fine chandeliers to give your home a stunning effect. However, the many options may be confusing to homeowners, making them wonder about the best choice. But buying a chandelier need not be stressful. We bring to you distinct chandelier styles to make the purchase uncomplicated. Victorian Inspired from the architecture and art in the latter half of the 19th century, Victorian chandeliers have an antique appearance. They create a soft light, which adds a glow to the room in which they are placed. They usually feature stacked arms made from glass, beading, or metal, as well as tiered lighting. This is a chandelier befitting dining rooms, foyers, or other rooms with high ceilings. Both delicate and detailed, this chandelier offers a look of true beauty. Its graceful ensemble and hand polished glass crystals are admirable.
Tiffany A popular choice, the Tiffany chandelier features a colorful chandelier covering made from iridescent stain glass shades in amber, cobalt, and jade. Usually handmade and detailed with floral patterns, and with lighting designs having geometric patterns, these chandeliers tend to be pricey. Empire This exclusive style with opulent crystal beading is a great alternative to traditional styles. Made from beading such as shell, wood, plastic, or crystal, they give off an old-world theatrical appearance. The top part of the chandelier is called the tent and the bottom is called the bag. These parts work together to give a swooping netted look. Mission Mission chandeliers have a unique box shape. With several squared off branches that feature downward-facing lampshades at the end, they are generally made of metal. They cast a low natural lighting. Upgrade your homes and brighten up your rooms beautifully with your chosen chandelier. 85 L&T BazaarPlus

Zumba at Home Shital Gurung, Zumba Instructor, Nirvana Wellness Centre
“You can search for Zumba videos on You-tube or on the internet and practice it at home. Always remember that you should start with a warm- up, followed by cardio, and ending off with a cool-down and stretch. It is best to do it in an open space where there's fresh air. Also to keep in mind, one needs to be self motivated to do Zumba at home as there won't be any instructor to help.”
Celebrity Review Jennifer Lopez, Singer/Actress “As women, we tend to give away a lot. We take care of a lot of people, and we can't forget to take care of ourselves. Even if that means once a week you're going to go off without the kids or without anybody and just go shoe shopping or join a Zumba class. It's a great way to feel the music and stay fit.”
Neha Dhupia, Actress “Going to the gym is one of my favorite pastimes whenever I’m not working, and I love doing Zumba too. It is the perfect mix of dance and fitness. Plus, it results in a well toned figure.”

Delicate Decoratives -Pooja Pradhan
Glass carving, etching, or stained glass all look great in our homes. If used well, they give a sense of elegance, but that does not mean you can just go and buy such items. Here are a few things you need to think about before buying them. • Make sure that wherever you keep such items, it is not in a heavy traffic area because children, or even adults, could accidently break them. • Etchings or glass carvings (in fact anything to do with glass) are expensive, so make sure that such an item actually fits with your décor before you buy them. • Since glass etchings leave behind a rough surface, you have to remember to clean them more frequently since they pick up dust easily. • You can also get etching and stained glass made to order. If you do that, take their function into consideration. If you are going to use stained glass or etched glass in a glass show cabinet, make sure that there is a large amount of clear glass so that people can actually see what is behind; use heavily etched and stained glass to hide things behind. Simple etching can cost from Rs. 50 to Rs. 150 per square feet, so decide how much you want to spend before you order glass panels to be etched. L&T BazaarPlus 88
CONSUMERS’ SPOT Soni Shrestha, Preschool teacher, Florence Kindergarten “I have not bought anything that has glass etching yet, but if I get a chance, I am planning to buy a etched glass Ganesh for my Puja room.”
Rashim Shrestha Nemkul, owner of Newman Edu-Consult (P) Ltd. “I believe that using glass etching in decoration helps to relax you and change your mood for the better. So, I try and buy one or two pieces regularly to add to my collection.”

Virtual Banking in Nepal -Sadiksha Upadhyay
Virtual banking, also known as an electronic banking, is the automated delivery of banking services and products directly to customers through electronic, interactive communication and, channels in a fast, convenient, and, easy way to access your bank account round the clock. Mandeep Bhattarai is an incharge of the cards department at Sunrise Bank, and gives us his views on e-banking. “We have been providing e-banking facility since 2009. After an agreement with VISA International, Sunrise Bank has been offering VISA debit card since 2010,” shares Bhattarai. How secure is it? E-banking is still in a developing phase in Nepal. Most of the attacks on online banking used today are based on deceiving the user and stealing login data and passwords. This is because most people are not familiar with the process and they lack knowledge for using e-banking services. So, in order to avoid such problems including cyber attack, the banks must invest in creating awareness about fraud. At Sunrise Bank, we have implemented one of the secure ways of authentication by using SSL secured connections for internet banking and One Time Password (OTP) is used for fund transfer related activities. OTP is sent to the customer’s mobile number which needs to be entered while performing any financial transaction through internet banking. L&T BazaarPlus 100

Likewise, e-banking channels which are widely in use are ATM, POS, internet banking, mobile banking, etc. Where has e-banking been helpful in your opinion? E-banking is one of the technological inventions that give conveniences to customers to manage financial transactions without having their physical presence in the bank. E-banking, helps people get all the details with ease and convenience, no matter where they are. Besides fund transfer and payment related activities, it also helps save time and money. So, e-banking, in my view is a boom. It will progress further with advancement in technology. How is the customer preference for e-banking in the market? The market has a wide area of audience with difference needs
and requirements. However, as e-banking offers various benefits and ease of access, the customer preference is growing day by day. How has e-banking helped your bank? By adopting new technology, our bank has been able to improve customer service and bring customers closer to the bank. It has helped our bank cut costs, increase revenue, and become more convenient for our customers. And, has helped us by creating new markets, reducing operational, administrative costs, and, also helped increase our competitiveness. This has spared us time to focus on other facilities. Any extra features of e-banking facility which only your bank provides? The following features are not so common in other banks: • Two level authentication for internet banking transactions • OTP for fund transfer-related transactions: OTP-single use temporary password is sent to the customers’ mobile phone for fund-related authentication • e-Sewa transactions • We are in the final stages of joining Fonepay network. With this service, interbank financial transactions and payment to various merchants can be performed via mobile phones. And which is that one feature that is highly used in e-banking?
