trammel fossil park to DESIGN A SPACE OR INSTALLATION TO ENHANCE THE EXPERIENCE OF GUESTS AT TRaMMEL FOSSIL PARK.
slate vs. limestone
THe park, a ten acre plot located in sharonville, ohio, is open to the public year round and features a vast and rich fossil deposit. GUests travel from around the country to spend hours searching through the fossils and take home their treasured findings. site analysis focused on potential improvement for guest experience. Sun exposure, Shading, vegetation, and desired vs,. undesired sounds were chosen as the areas with the most potential to facilitate the imrovement.
early approach began with responses to the combined diagram studies, yielding a spatial diagram of areas of interest to respond to.. Seeking to keep the park as a natural experience and to prevent damage of the fossils, a light weight shading device began to be explored. An extension of the natural canopy that would filter the harsh sunlight, project shadows, and create both a macro and micro sense of interior spaces to the site. A sense of playfulness in form and exploration was desired.
minimal surface tensile structure Purpose: shading device, diffusion of sunlight, low impact on site, intimate spaces for relaxation and education
sound reflective structure Purpose: reverberates pleasant sounds of forest, shading device, diffusion of sunlight, low impact on site, intimate spaces for relaxation and education
Distribution on site maximizes the use of present vegetation to facilitate a suggestive circulation path, provide shade on majority of the fossalized region, enhance natural sounds, and create nodes of interior space at multiple scales.
fILM INSTITUTE a film institute in the historic over the rhine district of cincinnati, ohio whiCH utiliziES an existing HISTORIC building on the site. The form is devleoped from the Inspiration and metaphor of frame in both film and architecture.
Early site analysis and reflection upon film progressed through many sketch ideas and models. The minimal and direct idea of Frame was chosen as the focus for the institute as the core language of film is a series of frames. these frames rapidly repeat, slightly altered from the previous, creating what is known as film.
THE INSITUTE RESPONDS TO THE SITE BOTH VERTICALLY AND IN PLAN, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT VIEWS, PRIVACY, HISTORY, AND THE HISTORICAL VISUAL LANGUAGE PRESENT. THE STEPPED FRAMES ARE A RESPONSE TO THIS LANGUAGE AND HELP TO CREATE A SENSATION OF SIGNIFCANT ENTRANCE WITH COMPRESSION AND RELEASE.
The main circulation path utilizes a suspended stairwell allowing for visual connection between floors as one moves through the building. This design emphasizes the use of frame by rotating it into a planned view, that the user can experience when looking up or down the PATH OF VERTICAL CIRCULATION.
the approach to the institute combines the stepped frame and glass to create a clear wayfinding experience of compression. THe frames ALONG THE Exterior entrance CREATE A VISUAL CONNECTION TO THE ONSITE BUILDING BEING UTILIZED. THE ROOF LINE OF the EXTERIOR FRAMES BECOMES THE INTERIOR FLOORING of THE ADJACENT MASS.
Insertion to design an addition to the exisiting GRADUATE ARCHUTECTURE STUDIOS IN THE DAAP BUILDING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI.
this space was designed around the needs of daap students whom spend intense hours within the same building everyday. due to the DEMANDS OF THE ENVIRONMENT, students crave the opportunity to escape the setting and their studio peers WITHOUT WASTING TRAVEL TIME. this environment focuses on the need for that brief escape, clarity of the mind, and relaxation. to achieve this, the use of simple pattern for visual focus, sunlight, comfort, and semi-encolose was used.
folly within a SMALL team, an EIGHT FOOT space was designed and constructed to be occupied by university students. The space creates an intimate place for rest, viewing, exploration, AND OF COURSE- PLAY.
ARMATURE to design an abstract plaster piece and a wooden support . both must clearly interact and stand apart.
two-dimensional Collages on programming, hAND RENDERING, DIGITAL RENDERING,
abstract atmospheric collages of chosen programs. the previous Includes: offices, archives, bathrooms, editing and technology, artist residence, lobby, audiitorium, multi-purpose, and a classroom,
Utilizing stories to create both Hand(left) and digital(right) collage.
PHOTOGRAPHY a collection of
35 mm and digital photography
35 mm photography. taken, processed, and developed by hand, one image at a time. film photography allows for a more slow and intimate exploration of spatial documentation.
early development on a digital photography study on the hidden and forgotten interiors of architecture.
