Third generation Texas Ranger Tyler Steele is the last of a dying breed—a modern day cowboy hero living in a world that doesn’t quite understand his powerful sense of right and wrong and instinct to defend those who can’t defend themselves. Despite his strong moral compass, Ty has trouble seeing his greatest weakness. His hard outer shell, the one essential to his work, made him incapable of forging the emotional connection his wife Andie so desperately needed. Now retired, raising their son Brodie on his own, and in risk of losing his ranch, Ty does not know how to rebuild from the rubble of his life. The answer comes in the form of Samantha and her daughter Hope, on the run from a seemingly inescapable situation. They are in danger, desperate, and alone. Though they are strangers, Ty knows he can help—protecting the innocent is what he does best. As his relationship with Sam and Hope unfolds, Ty realizes he must confront his true weaknesses if he wants to become the man he needs to be.

Excerpt from THUNDER AND RAIN: I washed my hands in the river and sat across from her. She handed me a plate. Her cheeks were thinner. More hollow. Black circles under her eyes. Jeans loose. The nights had worn on her. Being alone did that. She said, “You’ll be careful?” I nodded. The trick was to give her enough detail to satisfy her while not causing more concern. Or showing my own. “Everyone’ll be asleep. Most will be drunk or high. There’s more of us than them.” “And if they’re not asleep?” “Then”—I laughed—“it’ll get exciting.” She turned away. I should learn to keep my mouth shut. I tried to remind her. “This is four years in the making.” “But you always told me, you can’t control every variable, every angle.”
“And, we feel like we’ve got most of them.” “But, what about—?” “Honey.” “But—.” She pushed the food around her plate. “Andie.” I set down my fork. “This is what I do.” She nodded, which meant she heard me but didn’t like it. Maybe all this was unavoidable. Maybe it couldn’t be helped. Occupational hazard. Or, casualty. Happened to lots of guys. I had tried to be a good husband. Father. Least, that’s what I told myself. She turned and swallowed the pill she had told me was a women’s multi-vitamin prescribed by her doctor. I knew better. It was not.
“Irresistible—a charming, laughout-loud-funny memoir of a Pakistani Muslim boy growing up in the western world. Full of surprises, hard to put down.”
—John Berendt, author of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
“Very clearly and vividly written, it’s funny and perceptive about schools and neighbors and friends and girls and especially about the narrator himself, with his continuing puzzlement about religion, his smartly pressed clothes, and his apparently naïve fixation with cars.”
—Philip Pullman, author of The Golden Compass series
THE PERFECT GENTLEMAN A MUSLIM BOY MEETS THE WEST
“Hurray for Imran Ahmad’s terrific sense of humor, which has transformed his evocation of a runof-the-mill immigrant childhood into an entertaining, moving and thoroughly thought-provoking tale of our times.” —Daily Mail (London)
978-1-4555-0849-5 • $24.99/$27.99 Can. 352 pages • 5 ½ x 8 ¼ • Memoir Territories: U.S., Canada, and Open Market Also available in Downloadable Audio and eBook formats
An internationally praised coming-of-age tale of the perfect English gentleman…who just happens to be a Pakistani Muslim.
At the age of one, Imran Ahmad and his family emigrated to England, where he grew up to become a self-proclaimed “good boy”—an obedient son, an excellent student, and a respectful adherent to his faith. Fully embracing his new culture, he strove to become the quintessential English gentleman, taking to heart the founding principles of his new culture—truth, justice, equality, fair play…and a passion for the Jaguar XJS. When a fellow schoolboy tries to convert him, Ahmad sets off on a life-long quest to assure himself that his religious choice is the right one. Seeking guidance from his faith for such personal experiences as racism, bigotry, the profligate behavior of his peers, and the bewildering signals of the opposite sex makes for thoughtful—and downright delightful—reading. With a unique style and unflinching honesty, THE PERFECT GENTLEMAN addresses serious issues in an extraordinarily light way, and will leave readers both thinking deeply and laughing out loud. ■■ Since
its publication under the title UNIMAGINED in the United Kingdom, the book has garnered much praise. It was named a book of the year by The Independent, Guardian, and the Sydney Morning Herald, and has received glowing reviews in a number of other newspapers, magazines, and blogs.
who loved such novels as The Namesake (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2003) and The Kite Runner (Riverhead, 2003) will warm to this memoir of a Muslim boy’s attempt to assimilate into Western culture.
Ahmad was born in Pakistan, grew up in London, and went to university in Scotland before embarking on a corporate career that took him all over the world, including five years spent living in the United States.
has appeared on television and radio in the UK and Australia.
Ahmad lives in Kuala Lumpur and London.

Excerpt from THE PERFECT GENTLEMAN: I came in second in the Karachi “Bonnie Baby” contest. I was wearing a black suit, white shirt and dark tie. Smartly dressed, suave and handsome, I looked like James Bond, although I was too young to have seen either of his movies. I was also some– what unsteady on my feet. People were particularly impressed by my light skin. First prize went to the child of the organizer. The judges were her friends. This is absolutely typical of third world, banana republic unfairness. In the West, the organizer’s child would not be allowed to enter the contest. I was denied the title of “Karachi’s Bonniest Baby” by blatant nepotism. I began my lifelong struggle against corruption and injustice.

Excerpt from A LIFE WITHOUT LIMIT: I don’t think I’d ever struck anyone as obvious World champion material. For a start, there’s my nickname. It’s Muppet. And, yes, it’s for pretty much the reasons you would think. I had always suffered from regular lapses in common sense, and accidents had never been far away. But I’ve also always been driven by a fierce determination to make the best of myself and to try to make the best of the world around me. International development had been my passion, but when bureaucracy and red tape started to get me down, sport
offered itself as the perfect way to get things moving again—both in terms of my own development and my ambitions to help others. I have seen how sport can empower people and cross boundaries. It has always empowered me, but only now, with that road stretching clear ahead of me, did I start to sense what a chance I had. The girl who had come from nowhere, the muppet who had taken the lead! I had to make sure that this was just the start of it. There was a hell of a long way still to go, so much more to overcome. But if I could do it….

Thus began a cautious, thoughtful journey to more doctors and led the author to totally re-vamp her family’s diet, “de-tox” her home, and, as her children grew older, coordinate healthy routines for school and travel. Along the way, Reid developed complementary child-rearing strategies promoting respect, responsibility, creativity, spiritual balance, and love. When consumed, the blood will revive his emotions; when decoded, the message will lead him on a perilous journey that will require him to abandon everything he has ever known and awaken humanity to the transforming power of true life and love. But the blood will also resurrect hatred, ambition, and greed at terrible risk. The first book in a thrilling series set in a desolate future, FORBIDDEN begins a journey that continues with Mortal and will conclude with Soverign. From the combined pens of master storytellers Ted Dekker and Tosca Lee, this tale of passionate love and dark desires peels back the layers of the heart for all who dare take the journey.

Centuries have passed since civilization’s brush with apocalypse. The world’s greatest threats have all been silenced. There is no anger, no hatred, no war. There is only perfect peace… and fear. A terrible secret was closely guarded for centuries: every single soul walking the earth, though in appearance totally normal, is actually dead, long ago genetically stripped of true humanity. Nine years have gone by since an unlikely hero named Rob Sebastian first discovered a secret and consumed an ancient potion of blood to bring himself back to life in Forbidden. Surviving against impossible odds, Rom has gathered a secret faction of followers who have also taken the blood—the first Mortals in a world that is dead. But The Order has raised an elite army to hunt and crush the living. Division and betrayal threaten to destroy the Mortals from within. The final surviving hope for humanity teeters on the brink of annihilation and no one knows the path to survival. On the heels of Forbidden comes MORTAL, the second novel in The Books of Mortals saga penned by Ted Dekker and Tosca Lee. Set in a terrifying, medieval future, where grim pageantry masks death, this tale of dark desires and staggering stakes peels back the layers of the heart for all who dare take the journey. The Books of Mortals are three novels, each of which stands on its own, yet all are seamlessly woven into one epic thriller.

UNSAID A Novel NEIL ABRAMSON “An extraordinary story of animals, mortality, and the power of love. Everyone needs to read this novel!” —Garth Stein, author of The Art of Racing in the Rain As a veterinarian, Helena had mercifully escorted thousands of animals to the other side. Now, having died herself, she finds that it is not so easy to move on. She is terrified that her 37 years of life were meaningless, error-ridden, and forgettable. So Helena haunts—and is haunted by—the life she left behind. Meanwhile, David, her shattered attorney husband, struggles with grief and the demands of caring for her houseful of damaged and beloved animals. But it is her absence from her last project, Cindy—a chimpanzee who may unlock the mystery of communication and consciousness—that will have the greatest impact on all of them. When Cindy is scheduled for a research experiment that will undoubtedly take her life, David must call upon everything he has learned from Helena to save her. In the explosive courtroom drama that follows, all the threads of Helena’s life entwine and tear as Helena and David confront their mistakes, grief, and loss, and discover the only way to save Cindy is to understand what it really means to be human.

deep in THE WAVE A Surfing Guide to the Soul BEAR WOZNICK WITH LOU ARONICA World-class surfer Bear Woznick brings us a powerful and entertaining spiritual primer that uses surfing as a metaphor for moving towards God. Finding the spiritual self is an intensely personal journey. Some seek refuge in traditional spaces, such as a house of worship. Others find calm in nature or a solitary activity. For world-class surfer Bear Woznick, his spiritual connection comes on a surfboard. In DEEP IN THE WAVE, readers ride along with Woznick through the calmest tides and most turbulent waves. Woznick’s portrayal of the beauty and power of the ocean is truly inspiring and showcases the profound meaning surfing has had on his life. From the way a surfboard is painstakingly crafted, to the faith and patience that is required to ride a monster wave, Woznick weaves his relationship to surfing with his relationship to God, relating how the two are often one in the same. Instead of standing on the shore with our toes in the surf, Woznick takes us on the board—to the deep water—to watch and wait—and, if need be, to paddle hard to survive.

NOT POLITICS AS USUAL The Tea Party Goes to Washington SENATOR RAND PAUL Senator Rand Paul’s “fact-filled, economically literate and frequently charming” (Washington Times) blueprint for a new America. Millions of concerned Americans found their voice in the Tea Party movement and have rallied to support one of its most vocal champions, Rand Paul. In NOT POLITICS AS USUAL, Senator Rand Paul describes how fear over big government might have inspired the Tea Party, but also demonstrates how this grassroots movement is independent and critical of both parties—and why it must remain so. Paul took on the Republican Party establishment—from the Kentucky and national GOP machine to the former vice president—to win underdog victories thanks to an electorate eager for real reform and fed up with politicsas-usual. Bank bailouts, bankrupt entitlements, borrowing billions from the next generation to pay for this one—Paul takes these problems and more head on, offering conservative correctives and sound solutions. An ophthalmologist by trade, Dr. Paul’s prescription of “constitutional conservatism” harkens back to the Founding Fathers and the Republican Party of Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan. NOT POLITICS AS USUAL is custom-made for Americans looking to the wisdom of their forefathers to address the government and economic madness of our times.
