Rasterfahndung: The Pattern Investigation The Grid in Art since 1945 Edited by Ulrike Groos and Simone Schimpf A staple in the collections of Roy Lichtenstein, Sarah Morris, Sigmar Polke, and Sol LeWitt, the halftone technique of creating an image through a series of dots dates back to ancient times, and this comprehensive reference explores the history, use, and meanings of halftones throughout time, particularly in the fine arts after 1945. Included are details about the technique’s heyday in the 1960s when it became one of the crucial features of minimalist and pop art; rare insight into the relationship between halftones, music, and architecture; and extensive interviews with involved artists. Ulrike Groos is the director of the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart in Germany. Simone Schimpf is the deputy director and curator of the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart. Art, 328 Pages, 8 x 10.75 inches 148 Color Illustrations, 201 B/W Illustrations, Four-color Interior Trade Paper, $64.00 (CAN $70.95) ISBN: 9783868320893 RIGHTS: US & Canada

Rainer Gross Kontact: NY Paintings 1972–2012 Edited by Museum Ludwig Koblenz In his paintings, Rainer Gross combines the traditions of European art history with the vibrancy of New York City. From the re-creation of Peter Paul Rubens’s Baroque female nudes as pinups to colorful, vibrant abstraction, the artist’s photo-realistic work from 1972 to the present is captured in this comprehensive visual reference. This celebration of an acclaimed artist’s work covers his entire career—from his experimentation with the trivialities of mass-produced department store pictures to his more recent dispensing of figurative painting to fully explore the visual possibilities of colors and structures. The Museum Ludwig Koblenz in Germany houses a collection of French and international modern art.

Saurma-Jeltsch From French miniature paintings to the work of Pope Pius II, this collection of essays explores the philosophical history behind medieval European art. Origin Effects and Their Strategic Implications Consumer Behaviour in the Japanese Market Arne C. Schmidt Through extensive research this book provides a timely look into country of origin effects. The study combines an empirical approach with a thorough analysis of cultural and social aspects and analyzes consumer attitudes, risk assumptions, and in-group versus out-group rationales that can influence success in today’s Japanese retail market. Following an in-depth study of general origin effects, the research focuses on the question whether Japanese retail banking customers use country of origin information as a heuristic cue to construct, consciously or subconsciously, specific risk profiles for banks of different national origin. This research confirms some previous hypotheses but also reveals new findings that challenge traditionally held beliefs. The strategic implications of these findings are discussed in detail and the book also suggests how firms

14

can use origin cues as a comparative advantage to achieve greater success. Arne C. Schmidt is a graduate of the University of TĂźbingen with a double degree in business administration and Japanese studies. She currently conducts research on the effect of economic change on the Japanese market for Western products.
