Wanted! Registrants, volunteers needed for Susan G. Komen race Despite strong corporate sponsorship, the Vermont-New Hampshire Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure race is lagging in registrations and volunteers, said organizers. The annual race will take place on July 28 at Hildene Meadows in Manchester. “We’ve been seeing this trend since the Komen-Planned Parenthood debacle back in February,” said Affiliate President Debbie Peretz. While she acknowledged that people were rightfully angry about the situation, she pointed out that none of the funds raised locally go to Komen’s national operations. “Seventy-five percent of what we raise here stays here in the form of

Vermont’s longest-running music, art and sustainability festival, SolarFest, returns on July 20 through 22 for its 18th

anniversary at the Forget-MeNot Farm in Tinmouth. This year’s musical performers include Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion, the Wood Brothers, Banjo Dan and the Midnight Plow Boys, the Adam Ezra Group, Gold Town, and more. Noted environmentalist Bill McKibben, author of the iconic “The End of Nature,� will be the keynote speaker at 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 22 on the solarpowered SolarFest Main Stage. McKibben, the founder of the grassroots climate campaign, has been called “the

country’s most important environmentalist� by the Boston Globe. He is the Schumann Distinguished Scholar at Middlebury College and holds honorary degrees from a dozen colleges. On Saturday, July 21, Steven Strong will be the keynote presenter. Strong is president of Solar Design Associates, a group of engineers and architects dedicated to the design of environmentally responsive buildings. He has an international reputation for his ZeroNet-Energy homes and buildings, and powered the Atlanta Summer Olympics with solar power. He also designed and installed three solar systems in the White House.

Keynote presentations are included in the price of admission. This year SolarFest is offering reduced ticket prices of $39 for an all-inclusive threeday pass, or $15 for one day. Children 14 and under are free when accompanied by an adult. The festival also features a trade show with renewable energy companies, green builders and architects, organic food producers, and vendors, plus dozens of craftpersons and artists. Habitat for Humanity hosting tag sale The Bennington Area Habitat for Humanity is gearing up for its Auction/Tag Sale to be held at A Safe Place Self-Storage in East Dorset on Saturday, July 21. Preview and tag sale will begin at 9 a.m., with the auction starting at 10 a.m. Clark Comollo will be the auctioneer for the event, which is the local Habitat’s major fundraiser. The Model T's are coming The Manchester and the Mountains Chamber of Commerce will welcome more than 200 Model Ts to the Dorr Farm at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 16, as they arrive for a rally. The vintage cars and their owners are visiting Vermont as part of the Model T Ford Club International 56th Annual Summer Tour, entitled “Ts, Cheese and Maple Trees.� They will spend the morning in Manchester viewing the antique tractor and car collection of Don Dorr. The public is invited to come out to the Dorr Farm and see the Model Ts or view them in parade as they come into town on Route 7A. “We are thrilled to have these iconic cars in Manchester,� said Berta Maginniss, executive director of the chamber. “Ford will be one of the featured

Arlington hosting Family Fun Night The Arlington Recreational and Park Committee, Inc., in partnership with the Arlington Lions Club, will hold a Family Fun Night from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 13 at the Arlington Recreational Park. DTF to hold play reading Tuesday The Dorset Theatre Festival announces the second offering in its popular New Play Reading Series, “The Undeniable Sound of Right Now,� by nationally acclaimed playwright Laura Eason at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17. Eason is the author of more than 20 full-length plays, both original work and adaptations.

Her produced full plays include “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer� at Actors Theatre of Louisville, Denver Center, Hartford Stage and New Victory Theatre, and “Sex with Strangers� at Steppenwolf Theatre and Sydney Actors Theatre run by Cate Blanchett. Set in 1992, the new play tracks the story of Hank, who is
