After a holiday hiatus, weekly tai chi classes will resume in Whitehall on Saturdays at 9:30 a.m., at the Senior Center in the Whitehall Recreation Center on Williams Street. Winter and spring classes are now led by Marge Mohn, who has been a tai chi practitioner since 2007. Summer classes are led by Mohn and Betty Newell. Tai chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that involves a series of gentle, flowing movements performed in a slow, focused manner, accompanied by deep breathing. Mohn maintains that tai chi has played a significant role in her own good health. “It’s good for focus, memory and arthritis,” said Mohn. Thursday19 1777 Talk SCHUYLERVILLE — The American Revolution Round Table of the Hudson and Mohawk Valleys presents “Brave and Gallant: Black and African-American Military Men at Saratoga, 1777.” The session will be held on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Schuylerville Town Hall at 12 Spring St. Redcoats, Hessians and Americans fought in the 1777 Battles of Saratoga. Perhaps surprisingly, nearly 400 of those Redcoats, Hessians, and Americans were black or African American. In an age when the color of one’s skin could legally allow discrimination or enslavement, hundreds of black men and boys volunteered — or were forced to fight — on either side at Saratoga, the “Battle of the Millennium.” E r i c Schnitzer, park ranger and historian at Saratoga National Historical Park, has dedicated his life’s study to the organization, personnel, and material culture of the British and American armed forces of the Northern Campaign of 1777 and has researched, written, and drawn on the subject extensively. Time will be allocated for networking, socializing and to dis-

cuss prior topics. This is a great opportunity for history enthusiasts, historians, reenactors, historic site/museum personnel and all to get together to share ideas or to discuss the American Revolution and related topics. There are no fees and no membership requirements. Donations are appreciated to cover related costs. For more information, email arrthudsonmohawkvalleys@ gmail.com or call 774-5669. u
