Oldcastle Theatre presents multiple showings of classic christmas tale Begin your holiday season with Shakespeare on Main Street’s as they present this timeless holiday classic in intimate Storytime style in Bennington. Two performances will be on Saturday, December 3 at 7:30pm, and a matinee on Sunday, December 4 at 2:00pm. Both will be held at Oldcastle Theatre, 331 Main Street, Bennington. In A Christmas Carol, Dickens explores the morality of the love of money over the love of family and people. Scrooge sees the way his life has slipped into a basically unhappy and lonely old age where he has lost the possibility of love and friendship. This holiday masterwork is a story of compassion, forgiveness and redemption. Director Gary Meitrott adapts Readers Theater style to include costuming and movement by the actors, adding a dramatic element to the performance. With sim-

ple, yet elegant, Victorian furniture and costuming, five actors bring all the characters to life using Dickens’ original words. It’s like a storybook come to life. Meitrott, a lover of classic literature and founder of SoMS, says, “Even though we are all connected electronically, we are also isolated as individuals. A Christmas Carol rings truer than ever in its lesson to give and to love with every moment we have.” The cast features Virginia Bones, Oisin Harrington, David Kiefner, Eric Korzun, and Jonathan White. Tickets are $15 Adults, $9 Youth, Children Under 10 Free. To purchase advance tickets, call Oldcastle at 802-4470564. “A Christmas Carol” will also be performed in Brandon, Poultney and Dorset.
