Tar coal meeting WHS to present "Seussical" on March 13 The public is invited to a public meeting to discuss a proposed remedy for a former Manufactured Gas Plant (MPG) site on Thursday, March 13 at the Granville village offices from 6:30 to 9 p.m. A two-year investigation found that subsurface soil and groundwater beneath the 10-acre site have been contaminated by coal tar, which migrated from the former MGP. The proposed, $14,350,000 remedy for the New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) site includes the removal and offsite disposal of coal tar contaminated soil beneath three areas in the village. Among these are the former MGP site, which sits behind the Little League fields, a 700foot long section of the Mettawee River, which will require a temporary diversion of the river, and a small area of the Little League fields, according to the DEC. For more information visit www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/8430. html or email htwillem@gw. dec.state.ny.us.
The world of Dr. Seuss will come to life this weekend on the Whitehall stage. Under the co-direction of Avery Babson and Melissa Clark, the Whitehall Drama Club will present the Tony Awardnominated musical, “Suessical. “It’s a mix of multiple Dr. Seuss characters, Clark said. The musical is based on more than a dozen different books written by Dr. Seuss and features some of the author’s most iconic characters. It was written by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens and made its Broadway debut in 2000. “Seussical tells the story of Horton, an elephant who dis-
covers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to a butter battling military school for thinking too many “thinks. Horton’s attention to the speck of dust and his “loitering care of Mayzie LaBird’s egg has elicited taunting and accusations from the rest of the animal kingdom, except for Gertrude McFuzz, who longs for his attention, and JoJo, whose thinks save them all in the end. The story is narrated by the Cat in the Hat. This year’s show will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, March 7 and 8. A matinee will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 8. Tickets cost $5.
