All New Giveaway!!!
Students to showcase robots, art at First Friday Granville High School students and Pember officials alike are gearing up for a collaborative First Friday event tonight. “I’m really excited to have finally been able to connect with teachers and students in the Granville schools and to be able to present some of their projects at a First Friday, said Bo Young, a trustee. Rather than the usual paintings or photographs, this month will feature the VEX Robotics team. This group of students, known as VRC 4305A Six Sigma, qualified once again on Saturday for the VEX World Championship at the Northern New York Championship. The team, led by teacher Gary Gendron, fared well in the same competition last year in California against 400 teams from throughout the United States and the world. The students will be at First Friday with their robots and the official obstacle course to demonstrate. Additionally, Jennifer Dashef ’s sixth-grade class has been making art out of more than 20 cabinet doors donated by Curtis Lumber. Dashef said her students made abstract montage faces on the doors, which are “meant to inspire acceptance, tolerance, individuality and creativity. “The unique nature of this show is quite exciting. All of the students had the same guidelines but came up with unique end

Pizza will be on hand for food, and Stephen Havel will provide a musical backdrop. Nearby at the Slate Valley Museum, Interim Director Sarah Kijowski said the community is invited to stop by for a free
evening of re-getting to know the museum. “For our February First Friday, one of our educators will be on hand to offer insights into life in the Slate Valley, past and present, she said. “Spend your evening exploring the history, industry and geology of the Slate Valley. Wander through the exhibits or join in on a guided tour. Refreshments will be provided as well. As always, First Friday takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. at both museums.

After you take into consideration the cost of purchasing the rights to the show, renting costumes, building a set, and paying for the musical score, the production can cost upward of a few thousand dollars. With the exception of a helping hand here and there, the fundraiser is completely run by members of the drama club. “All of the kids participate. Their families provide the bas-
kets and they do a lot of the work, Putorti said. “They help set everything up on Saturday and then clean up afterward. Besides the baskets, there are door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, which has netted past winners up to a couple hundred dollars, and a light lunc, which will be available for $3. Putorti said the basket party typically attracts as many as 350 people each year. This year’s production, Seussical, will be staged March
