Fragmentary Ancestors: Figurines from Koma Land 25 Oct 2013-5 May 2014 The first ever officially approved showing in the UK of clay figurines made by a little understood people in Koma Land in Ghana between the 6th and 14th centuries. #MMKoma Coral: Something Rich and Strange 30 Nov 2013-16 Mar 2014 Explore the enduring fascination with coral as a material, symbol and inspiration for artists, cultures and societies across the centuries.

How has coral been used in natural history, art and religion? Wed 24 Jul: Ian Panter and conserving the past Voices from the Ancient Worlds gallery Find out about the challenges faced by Ian Panter, who treats and preserves objects found on excavations. 1-2pm Thurs 5 Sep: Salford Sioux Stephen Welsh, Anjum Malik and Natalie Zacek discuss why hundreds of Sioux Indians set up camp on the banks of the Irwell in Salford. 6-8pm Tues 10 Sep: Craft in the making Encounters with Native North America Explore replica-making as a way of understanding the skill and significance embedded in Plains Indian craftwork.
