SHOP: BEST OF MANAYUNK Best New Store: Pineapple on Main
If you’ve ever walked down Main Street and caught yourself stopping at a beautifully designed window near the corner of Main and Grape, then you’ve found yourself at Pineapple on Main. If you’ve been inside and looked up – then the design in the tin ceiling surely caught your eye (bonus points for you if you noticed the same design featured in their logo). The new store, which opened its doors in April of 2015, is located right in the heart of Main Street in the historic building that A.I. Poland jewelers called home for over 100 years. Neighbors Gary and Norma Mann of Gary Mann Jewelers purchased and renovated the building bringing it back to its original charm with a fresh new look…and coat of paint. Originally opened as a hub for event management, owners Kathy Piccari and Taryn Rager have new plans for the beautiful space. As interior decorators by trade (they’re the ladies behind Harris & Tweed Interiors) they are migrating the space into a home décor and gift boutique with the back room still acting as a studio and office space for local creative’s. “When we first brought out interior design services here, our clientele in Manayunk started growing and we noticed that everyone needed home décor and we were running around trying to source product for them – pillows, blankets, accessories and kitchenware,” Kathy said. “So we decided to bring it here and expand our inventory.” Their home décor inventory now includes items from the beloved Shop Zestt collection (who once had a pop-up in the same space!) and other vendors including Kobo, Petit Pehr and Ollie Ella. Check out their blanket wall or pillow bookshelf to find the perfect accents for your living room or pick up a gold cheese knife set or fancy cloth napkin gift pack to bring to your next dinner party. They also feature local artists including Philadelphia based Urban Work Textiles whose Philly skyline canvas prints are new to the shop. We warn you though; you’ll never walk out of there without buying something for yourself too. Besides being a go to shop for home décor and hostess gifts, the store also acts as a community hub and event space, hosting seasonal
networking events, photo shoots and even comedy shows. And when you’re there, you’ll surely be offered a glass of wine in one of their signature Pineapple On Main etched wine glasses. Pineapple is in fact the international sign for hospitality, which is exactly what you get when you walk in the doors of Pineapple on Main, but it’s so much more Kathy said, “Not only does the pineapple represent hospitality, but they are also sweet on the inside, just like the interior of your home should be. Home is where the pineapple is.” Manayunk has also become home to both Kathy and Taryn. “Manayunk has been so overwhelmingly welcoming to us,” Taryn said. “Every single business owner here is willing to help us and share their experiences and it has truly become our home” Honorable Mention: Philadelphia Runner
