32 the T.A.B.E. are below the required levels, students are allowed to retest after three months of the first test date. Remediation courses are also taught through Adult Education, and students can re-test when they complete remediation (may be sooner than three months). --Copy of High School Diploma or GED Certificate --Copy of Florida Driver’s License Driving skills are included in the courses. --Florida Department of Law Enforcement(FDLE) Background Check. Clinical sites require a participating student to have an acceptable background check. To obtain a copy of your arrest record, complete and send the enclosed forms with $23 directly to the FDLE in Tallahassee. Your background check will be returned to MTI. These take several weeks to process and should be sent as soon as possible. Students who have previous felonies on their arrest records may not be permitted to participate in the Paramedic or EMT programs. --Interview - After completion of application --Physical Examination & Immunization The physical must be dated within one year of the course start date. A medical form is enclosed which should be provided to the physician for completion. Immunizations required include: Measle-Mumps-Rubella(MMR) - doses required with the 2nd dose at least one month after the first Tetanus/Diptheria (T/D) - the last 10 years PPD Skin Test (tuberculosis) -within the last year, TINE test not accepted Varicella - Chicken Pox - doses required or positive titer Hepatitis B - recommended for this field --Copy of current Florida EMT Certificate --Copy of EMT Course Certificate or Degree Provide a copy of your course completion certificate or transcript that indicates the total number of hours or credits in your EMT course. Length of Program The program is 1100 hours and will take approx. 11 months to complete.

Medical Assisting Medical Assistant 1300 Hours This program is designed to prepare students for employment as medical assistants. The program is in accordance with the Florida Statutes on Medical Assistants and is currently seeking accredidation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs sponsored by the American Association of Medical Assistants. Program content The content includes, but is not limited to, communication and interpersonal skills, legal and ethical responsibilities, health-illness concepts, administrative and clinical duties, emergency procedures including CPR and first aid, safety and security procedures, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and employability skills. This program focuses on broad, transferable skills and stresses understanding and demonstration of the following elements of the health care industry: planning, management, finance, technical and production skills, underlying principles of technology, labor issues, community issues and health, safety, and environmental issues. Medical Assisting is a 1300-clock hour program consisting of core and four occupational completion points (OCP’s), the completion of which constitutes the program. The structure allows students to complete specified portions of the program for employment or remain for advanced training. The Core is taught first or concurrently with the first OCP and all modules must be completed to be a medical assistant.The 90 hour Core will be a pre-requisite for the Medical Assistant program with the class starting in August 2007(see the Health Science Core description). There is also a 220 hour internship at a local physician’s office or clinic.
