Please be sure to read the information we have provided carefully and feel free to contact the Admissions Office if you have any questions. Our address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address are listed below. Our office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. RESIDENT MEMBERSHIP PERIOD Resident members who have been admitted for the academic year will be given a Resident Membership Agreement for both the fall and the spring semesters until May 19, 2014. Resident members admitted for the fall semester only who wish to stay beyond January 1, 2014 may request an extension of their resident membership from the Admissions Office. RESIDENT MEMBERSHIP Please make note that all residents are required to:  Be a full time graduate student, intern, trainee or visiting scholar during their entire residency.  Obtain health insurance coverage valid in the United States for the duration of their stay.

ROOM RESERVATION & ARRIVAL DATE To secure your resident membership within the I-House community, please send the following by the date indicated in your admission letter: STEP 1: $600 Room Reservation Payment to be applied to your resident membership fees when you arrive. See payment section for details STEP 2: Please notify us in writing of the date you wish to arrive at International House after you have made the room reservation payment. The fall semester begins on September 1, 2013, but you may wish to arrive before or after that date. Please make a change in writing at least four weeks prior to arrival to be considered. Changes are subject to approval by the Admissions Office and we will confirm by e-mail within one week of the request.

We will make every effort to accommodate you on your scheduled arrival date. We will confirm room availability on your scheduled arrival date approximately one week after receipt. Once you notify us of your arrival date, a room will be reserved for you from that date and you will be responsible for the room charges beginning on that date. Only one change to this arrival date is permitted. ROOM ASSIGNMENT International House makes every effort to assign you to the room of your choice as requested on the room preference form included in your application. Room assignments for new resident members are made in the order in which room reservation payments are received, based on current availability and your arrival date. If your first choice is not available, we will assign a room as close as possible in price and features to the one you requested. Once a room reservation payment is received and a room is assigned, the Admissions Office will send you a confirmation by e-mail. We cannot confirm room numbers or the exact room rate before your arrival since room assignments are subject to change. We advise you to budget for the maximum rate you specified on your room preference form. ROOM RATES Room rates vary according to the amenities provided, as described below. Room Fees from the date of your scheduled arrival until the end of the first semester

A $800.00 refundable Membership Deposit which will cover the use of your furnishings, linens, outgoing telephone, and your room and mailbox keys. PAYMENT INFORMATION Payment may be made in U.S. dollars by a personal check with funds drawn from a U.S. bank or affiliate (payable to International House), traveler’s check, U.S. money order or credit card (Visa or MasterCard only). Please remember that it takes substantial time for out-of-state checks to clear once you have established a bank account in New York City. It is important for you to realize that you may not be able to rely on a new account to meet your initial expenses until your deposit(s) clear. FACILITIES & SERVICES Furnishings: I-House rooms are furnished with a twin-size bed, dresser, bookcase, desk, chair, lamp, telephone and linens (sheets, blanket, pillow and a towel). When you arrive, we will ask you to complete a room inventory sheet for the condition of items in your room or apartment. If there is a discrepancy between the inventory sheet and the items in your room, please make corrections and ask the Facilities Management Office (Ext. 8452) to assist you. You will be responsible for lost or damaged items that you did not list on the inventory sheet. Please be careful when attaching items to the walls, as you are responsible for leaving your room as you found it (i.e. without holes or tape marks). NO ADDITIONAL OUTSIDE FURNITURE MAY BE BROUGHT INTO IHOUSE OR ADDED TO YOUR ROOM OR APARTMENT. Membership Cards: The entrances to I-House are monitored 24 hours a day and all members are required to show their valid I-House membership cards for entry. Your membership card is also required for the use of certain I-House services and facilities such as the fitness center, the computer lab, music practice rooms, bicycle storage room and resident kitchen, and is used in the dining room to pay for meals. Telephone Service: Telephone and voicemail service is included with payment of your resident membership fees and membership deposit. You will be responsible for payment of the charges for your calls, both local and long distance. Upon arrival, you will be assigned a personal phone number. Prior to arrival, you should give the 24-hour main number of International House to your friends and family: (212) 316-8400. Dining Room Service: All resident members pay a dining room charge on a semester basis for credit in the dining room. The cost of eating in the dining room ranges from approximately $4 to $8 per meal depending on your selections. If you use all of your

dining room credit before the end of the semester, additional credit may be added to your dining account at the Riverside Reception Desk. Mail Service: Each resident member has a personal mailbox. The I-House mail room receives your faxes, express mail, packages and other deliveries. The fax number for residents who wish to receive faxes is (212) 316-8415. Kitchenware for apartments in I-House North is not provided. There is no charge for the first 7 nights. Beginning on the 8th night, there will be a $20 per night charge for overnight guests. Please note that rooms at International House can be assigned to only one resident member, except for studio and one-bedroom apartments in I-House North. If you change your arrival date and arrive later than the date on which we have reserved a room for you, you will be charged for the room from the originally scheduled arrival date. If you decide to cancel your room reservation, the cancellation fee varies according to when we receive written notification of your cancellation. The cancellation fees are: 31 DAYS OR MORE PRIOR TO YOUR SCHEDULED ARRIVAL DATE: Complete refund of the room reservation payment. 14 TO 30 DAYS PRIOR TO YOUR SCHEDULED ARRIVAL DATE: The cancellation fee is $400. 13 DAYS OR LESS BEFORE YOUR SCHEDULED ARRIVAL DATE: The cancellation fee is $600, the entire amount of your room reservation payment. AFTER ARRIVAL: If you shorten your stay after arrival, the cancellation is the lesser of the Resident Membership Fees: 1) until the end of your Resident Membership Agreement, OR 2) for 30 additional days after the date of departure If the room is occupied by a new resident member, you will receive a refund of the resident membership fees from the date the room becomes occupied through the end of the period you were charged. The refund will be processed three to five weeks after departure and will be sent by check or credit card refund.
