Look. Heute kann man einen Luxusanzug mit Sneakers in auffallend rotem Schuppenleder oder mit den Spikes kombinieren, auf die in letzter Zeit die Marke Louboutin stark setzt. Bis vor kurzem war das noch undenkbar. Und die ewigen Jeans? DSquared2 ist eine der meistgefragten Marken mit ihren verwaschenen Farben und kleinen Rissen, während für all diejenigen, die nicht ganz so risikofreudig sind, Jacob Cohën eine gute Option ist. Luxus + Technologie + sportlicher Stil = Smartwatch, die in diesem Jahr ebenfalls ein beliebtes Weihnachtsgeschenk ist. Vor allem unter den Jüngeren, die in Bezug auf Marken schon sehr bald die Vorstellungen ihrer Eltern übernommen haben. Und hier ist der Beweis: Bei einem Besuch in den Corner-Läden in Palma konnten wir beobachten, wie innerhalb von weniger als einer halben Stunde zwei junge Männer zwischen 18 und 22 Jahren he-

reinkamen, die sehr genau wussten, was sie suchten, oder zumindest bewundern wollten: Die exklusivsten Marken, die sie schon kennen, seit sie denken können.

● OBJECTS OF DESIRE

Luxury goods are once again top of the Christmas gift lifts. Whether it is an item of clothing or a sound system, luxury has an irresistible appeal and is synonymous with exclusivity combined with cuttingedge trends. Yet more than anything else, quality is their most outstanding feature, enabling them to accompany their proud owners for many years to come. The idea of fashion has changed considerably. In fact, nowadays we tend to talk more about ‘trends’ than ‘fashions’. But always in the plural. Ask the cognoscenti and they will tell you that “the trend is that there are no trends: everything goes”. The ideas we see on the catwalks may be a source of inspiration,

but they are never limiting. At least this is the case in the realms of exclusivity, as prêt-àporter fashion is characterised by more clearly defined guidelines and a certain sense of exaggeration when it comes to the latest trends, which also means that they quickly become dated. In contrast, a luxury jacket will never look old-fashioned, even though it was purchased 20 years ago. This is particularly true in the case of bags, which will once again become the most popular luxury gift for women this Christmas. Yet not just any bag: we are talking accessories by leading name brands such as Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, Fendi or Prada, with price tags of several thousand euros. Another sure-fire gift idea is a Moncler gilet or jacket, specialists in apparel for extremely cold weather. Men’s trends have experienced the most radical changes in recent years. The 30 to 55 year old segment has moved from the classic image epitomised by brands such as Hermès or Cartier, towards a sportier look. Today it is not unusual to see luxury suits teamed with a pair of eye-catching red leather sneakers featuring a scale pattern or spikes such as the latest designs by Louboutin. A combination that would have been unthinkable just a short time ago. And what about those timeless jeans? DSquared2 is the name behind some of the hottest trends around thanks to its faded and subtly distressed styles, whilst the more conservative will find just what they are looking for in the designs by Jacob Cohën. Luxury + technology + sports style equals smartwatch, set to be another of this year’s top Christmas gifts. Especially among the younger generations, who, from an early age, have taken up the deluxe torch from their parents. How do we know? During a recent trip to some of Palma’s corner stores, within the space of just 30 minutes we saw at least two young shoppers aged between 18 to 22 who knew exactly what they were looking for – or at least looking at: the most exclusive brands that have been part of their lives practically since they learnt to walk and talk.
