freshwater lenses at critical locations which may in‐turn reduce peak salt loads and enhance environmental benefits (AWE 2011). It is suggested that a set of aims be established and in light of the greater understanding of floodplain process, that operation of the SISs be reviewed. A key component of assessing the performance of SISs is the collection of accurate baseline data and ongoing monitoring data which may include: 

Groundwater levels

Vegetation health data

Saline and fresh groundwater distributions

Aquifer properties such as transmissivity and storage data

Bore properties such as specific capacity.
