It is the vision of Maleny Netball Association to foster the participation and enjoyment of netball by players of all stages and abilities in the Maleny and hinterland region. With this in mind the club is seeking expressions of interest for an 8 week mixed social netball competition which will run on a Tuesday night starting later in 2022.
In addition enjoying good friendship, playing bowls has many physical health benefits, engaging in physical activity and group sports for older Australians provides increasingly important opportunities for socialisation, peer-support, and conversation that reduces the possibility for loneliness related physical and mental illnesses.
The Maleny Bowls Club members are celebrating 85 years of bowling in Maleny with a day of lawn bowls - lunch - presentations and a “walk down memory Lawnlane”. Bowls was first played in Maleny in the mid 1930s on a private rink on the town side of the Maleny Hotel. The hotel and the two bowls rinks were owned by the Burnett Family. Witta Tennis Friday 12 August: Whistlers had a forfeit win. Unfortunately, the Wanderers last match of the season was a washout!
Sunday 14 August: The first clear blue sky for the month produced a great day for tennis. The two Witta teams in the Division 2 Seniors competition: Witta Wompoos and Witta Wikings, faced off for a club battle. An impressive day’s tennis led to several close sets including three tie break sets. Game scores were close and after 10 sets the result was tied at five sets a piece. The final two mixed doubles matches secured the winning margin.
Friday 19 August: The Whistlers played at Mooloolaba against the Legends. It was warm and nice weather for tennis. And there were battles on the court! Very close until the end and we managed to get one extra game, which gave us the win. Score was 4 sets all, 33-32 games. Team was Ros Evans, Brenda Warner, Donna Kuskopf and Cindy Harris.
The Wompoos winning both sets 6/3 and 6/4. Thanks to the Wikings team of Glenn Smith, John Bradshaw, Rob Weller, Stacey English, Pauline Fraley and a special thanks to Rob Nichols from Nambour for providing a great competition and hosting the afternoon tea for the day.
Also, thanks to the Woompoos team of Sean Lepper, Haydyn Craven, Tony Keenan, Andrew Blowes, Paula Cudmore and Annie for their resilience and sportsmanship. The next round of the competition falls on the 11th September.

The Bald Knob Hall was officially opened on 26th August 1924. It was built on the site of the first home of Mrs Jane Dunlop, who came to the Blackall Range in August 1875. This was the NE corner of Portion 34, Parish of Bribie, just below the junction of the Bald PeachesterKnob/ and the LandsboroughMaleny/ Roads. This hall was the venue where a future Premier of Queensland, Sir Francis Nicklin held his first political meeting. The hall was purchased in 1951 to be erected at Caloundra as the Youth Centre at Camp Cal, and was wrecked by a cyclone in 1954.

On our play days during this last week, we have concentrated on playing Association Croquet, the traditional form of the sport, which we all enjoy for it’s great and interesting challenges. The matches go for two and a half hours during which we vie against each other to place balls around the lawns so we can make a “run of hoops” which means we can put our own ball through several hoops in a row during a single turn. The game is referred to by some as a cross between chess and snooker, on a lawn with larger balls!
