Handicap Race Sue We returned to our 1.5-mile summer ‘Relay Lap’ route for April’s Handicap Race. It was a nice evening, and the course was mostly good underfoot. Recent and forthcoming marathons meant that only seven runners raced on this occasion. With a wide spread of start times, it felt possible that most of us would not even see another runner! However, the handicapping worked very well, and everyone finished within 24 seconds. I started last, 1 second behind Jonathan. Jonathan tried to break me by setting off like a rocket but I drew alongside him as the road levelled on Cheap Street. We caught George, but George hung on. Once on the High Street with 200m to the finish, everyone was in sight. Mo thought he had the race sewn up if he could hold off Colin, but George was pushing me and Jonathan to a fast finish, and George unleashed an awesome final sprint to win the trophy. I recorded the evening’s fastest time in second place, with Jonathan close behind. Mo managed to stay ahead of Colin and pass John. Well done George, and thanks to Jan and Dick for timing. The next race is scheduled for 2nd June. Finish Position 1 2 3 4 5 6
