Brighton Marathon, 17th April Philomena, Ryan and Susanne ran together all the way and crossed the line in a good 3:42:33. Philomena says: “Thanks to Sus we didn't get carried away early on in the race and so finished feeling relatively comfortable. It was a beautiful sunny day, not too warm or windy, just perfect for running. The nice weather also brought out the supporters in great numbers creating a lively atmosphere. Running with Sus and Ryan made this the most enjoyable marathon I have done so far. It made a great difference having their company! To top it all off I managed to take a photo with the winner of the race!” Philomena and Sus were 182nd and 183rd ladies out of 4018 lady finishers. Ryan was 1494th finisher out of 6683 men. And former Harrier ‘Big Kev’ Wilkinson did very well to complete his first marathon in 5:52. The race winners were Duncan Mayio – 2:09:56, and Grace Momanyis – 2:34:16.
London Marathon, 24th April Martin, Emma, Terry and Susanne made the annual trip to compete in the London Marathon, with Philomena and injured Lucy supporting. Susanne and Martin ran together for about 23 miles until Martin, who was suffering from both a cold and a sore Achilles tendon, was forced to slow. Sus finished in 3:32:32 (58th in category), a great time just one week after the Brighton Marathon, and she really enjoyed it. Martin crossed the line in 3:33:45 (215th in category). Terry completed his fastest marathon for some time in 4:01:10 (2206th in category), despite problems with cramp, while Emma did well to finish in 4:58:00 – her second marathon in five weeks.
